THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
For once, Jail is actually on the same page as our main characters.

The monster or whatever that is sure has a lot of arms though. Even Licht has a hard time fighting it. Mizuka kinda scares me with that personality of hers when she just shoots at the people while showing no mercy D:

Well, the animation of this episode is still an SDS s3 level of bad. At least the blood isn't white.

NOOO, that's it??? I NEED MORE. This episode was fucking amazing. I have not had my eyes glued to an anime episode in a very long time. Probably since watching Shingeki no Kyojin season 1. I'm hooked on this world and story now, for sure. I had so much anxiety watching the boy being held hostage, I was legit pleading for him to survive.

Licht is not playing around at all anymore. Sonohara awakened a part of him that you can tell he's been suppressing for a very long time and it looks like next episode is going to be even better. Also, she's really hot.

I'm working with a theory that Licht and Sunohara are actually from Japan and the "abyss" is like a portal between worlds. The modern Earth is trying to "plunder" resources from this world? Would explain why Licht calls himself Plunderer and why Sunohara is on the side of the helicopters.

A lot of people wrote the show off because of the pervy comedy and what not, but honestly that's all just a plus for me. Ecchi just enhances shows IMO. Once the series gets going, it looks like it really gets going. Definitely one of my faves of the year.

Those guys are from the times of War, which happened 300 years ago.
Quick deduction and connecting two dots will tell you it took place in modern day and destruction it caused pushed back civilization into medieval ages. Similar thing happened in Shinsekai Yori.
I'm anime only and it baffles me people fail to deduce that.

So Licht temporarily became "bad guy" *ekhm* Vasto Lorde Ichigo *ekhm* unfortunately it is a pity that he was such a shitty character throughout the whole anime then this moment would be meaningful. :/

but in my opinion ecchi/fanservice was just made in bad taste, so I'm not surprised that many people just stopped watching.
If just having ecchi/fanservice was a problem then Ishuzoku Reviewers and Murenase wouldn't be as popular as they are right now. ;)

remember looking at bits of the later parts of the manga funny saw people freaking out about this episode so was surprised it changed it's tone so soon so i picked up the manga since it's way easier to digest still a hot mess but the amount of plot twist it sends each chapter is just plan silly once you take out all the trash fanservice there's some dumb fun to be had reading it.

i'll see if i can stick with it because it just feels like the sora author was high af and wanted to make the most random ass story.

i'll be back on ep for more reactions

Wait, was that the 3rd season of GATE that just started ?

More seriously, the whole show became more interesting with this unexpected threat. A lot of path has to be crossed before learning the whole story but Licht definitely has a huge past he tried to hide.

What a wild episode. A complete 180 from what we've previously seen. It feels as though the first 8 episodes set us up to be completely lambasted by this episode. It's like it's saying "everything you know is wrong".

This really makes the show a thousand times more intriguing. So glad this has finally kicked into high gear.

Wow, 9 episodes in and I finally feel an ever so slight amount of interest in what’s happening. I would love if this anime could do a 180 because man has it been an excruciating drag to get to this point where I finally felt something other than brain dead boredom.

While the concepts and ideas from this episode are good, they fail to be properly executed because of the astonishingly low animation budget. It doesn't look like any real effort went into animating the action scenes. That said, the story has genuinely grabbed my attention. Mizuka seems like an intriguing antagonist and her appearance sets up an important portion of Licht's backstory, which I hope gets developed as the show moves forward. Even if a show doesn't have good production values, it can still impress viewers with an intriguing story, so at least Plunderer has that going for it.

Just wonder why the anime skipped this scene? That Rihito shocking scene looks so confused for those who never read the manga.

Anyway, glad to see they finally improved the pacing (Adapting 2 chapters per episode) for this and the next episode. Kinda disappointed at the way the anime handled that plunderer scene.

No idea why they skipped most of Special Service's screentime in this episode.

Welp, a helicopter came out of nowhere from the Abyss...and now Jail Murdoch's tied together with Licht and the others in a seemingly precarious situation.

The seemingly wanted man that Licht has become, his Legendary "Red Baron" Ace time has come. But those "Althing" CGI "dictator" hands are a real bothersome threat.

And as comments go, it went from zero to 100 real quick.

MahiaErebeaNegi said:

This is sin for the anime to miss this point, the effect would've been greater.

Legendary Ace "Pursuit" yandere Sonohara makes her debut, not in the kindest way possible. But to see the conflict of the war being another pinpointing factor in this travesty, all hope seems lost...

That is until the usual mask that Licht wears, is actually his own power, being a plunderer. Having never read the manga, knew it would reach to this point, just that it feels like its dragging on its 2 feet to reach this point.

Kinda of an OK episode, just decent with new revelations.

I really loved this episode too and I want MORE. I also love your theory. What ticked me off thiugh was that Sonohara mentioned her powers implying that "their world" is also ruled by numbers. Is the other side of the "abyss" a parallel world driven by technology?

Yes! I was hoping for this show to become hilariously awful and it seems possible now after seeing this episode.

A random helicopter appears and goes on a killing spree for some reason.
I like how everyone was supposed to be evacuated but ended up standing in the middle of the street just letting themselves be shot by the helicopter, of course the important characters survived.
A yandere appears and starts killing even more people who just stands dumbfounded and watch, it was hilarious.
Many cringey moments and the animation has gotten worse but at the same time it was a pretty funny episode in my opinion.

welp this episode is just inhumane to say the least and it's a crime against humanity and get this doing killing spree on civvies in a helicopter is just brutality to the max and ends in high casualites and a huge number of severe fatalities ( welp this violate the rules mentioned in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights if happened IRL ) and some yandere joined in the civvie killing spree this character should be executed (either by firing squad or decapitated by guillotine :P) also it's a good thing that i did not watch this hellish nightmare of a show (i prefer my CGDCT show instead)

It is only disturbing for you and SJW people. The "sexual molestation" did not disturb me at all. I would not even call it sexual molestation when litch and girls have special relation (and the girls themselves don't care about it).

Also, I don't see anything relevance between sexual molestation in anime and japanese culture of harassing women. If you want to fight against harassment then you should fight against it in real life not fictional show which does not effect anyone.

It was a great episode but many more questions appear, and still, no answers xD Obviously they will answer all the questions but damn, it's so hard watching this without knowing why it's happening.

This episode was really sad, to watch all the innocent people die...and that kid at the end damn.

Who the hell is Plunderer? It's more than obvious that he isn't bad, but then how the hell from a portal an apache helicopter appeared. And from some of the comments I've seen, it seems that it was a little girl piloting it? wtf!
Can't wait for the next episode!
