And I didn't expect that Masayoshi and Mari will reveal themselves.

Holy shit. This episode could have honestly been the finale and I would have been okay with that.

I can't help but think that King Torture was actually kind of a cool guy. The way he let Moe go because of her conviction and honesty? What a fucking bro. I never liked Mari to begin with so I'm glad he knocked her ego down a notch.

I agree with you completely!

I like mari alirght at least, but i do agree tocha was a bro tier villan.

I really can't see what this show is trying to make, does it try to make something generic or a deconstruction? The creators need to decide. I was hoping people would die in this episode, also the animation is pretty shit. It still has my attention though and i am enjoying it so far but i really think it can be much better, i am hoping for more fucked up stuff in the next episodes.

People are still complaining about the "plot twist" at this point? They should've dropped this already if they didn't like it LOL
Let's be sincere though. If this series had stayed "normal", it would have turned pretty stale by now...

Anyway, I'm liking the way this series is going. It's been pretty good so far.
This episode made me like King Torture a lot, too bad he died. I hope he returns somehow.

ridiculous... Moe is an annoying yuri bitch with an irritating voice. Mari is a bitch (its fucking obvious). Masayoshi is a retarded hero-wannabe also with an irritating voice. Goto-san is the only character here that makes sense. And also King Torture is a good guy... its a shame that he had to die.

btw.. where the fuck is Goto's girlfriend??... hell I might even think hes just talking to Siri or something.. all we see are her text messages and nothing more.

PS: pathetic singing at the end

This show is definitely trying to dissect the whole superhero dynamic and although I do agree that the narrative is very inconsistent (as well as shoddy animation), I am pleased with what I've seen.

How I enjoy the show is NOT by questioning the realism or the logic behind what's happening (let's all just agree none of this stuff would happen in real life) but by thinking about what the writers what to convey about superheroes, villains, etc. I dunno, not genius stuff here but I think it's good.

It's pretty clear that what's happened so far will have it's consequences for what's to come. Yes, there are questions left unanswered, but the show isn't over yet, be patient.

i was a bit queasy throughout this episode orz

since we're halfway through the season and this was labelled 'final battle', does this mark the end of an 'arc' and next episode they'll introduce the new characters and transition into something different? just curious since masayoshi revealed his identity so revolving around that, things are going to change a bit (his manager discovers his otaku room, they search for konno unless they're completely writing him off at this point, maybe THE REVEAL OF GOTO'S GIRLFRIEND???)

This episode was great! Samumenco deconstructing superheroes one Flamenkick(that conversation with Moe and Mari) at a time. Surprised though Konno wasn't a Torture boy and was set free

Also I think I'm doomed to freak out whenever I hear ERABE from now on

Felt like all the episodes till now were just the prologue for something even bigger with the whole identities revealed, how king torture got all those advance tech and that blue orb that was in his chest.

On a side note, lol just noticed Mizuki's seiyuu is Mao Ichimichi who played the real Gokai Yellow in 2011's super sentai. Kinda ironic to have her voicing a character in a show which has tokusatsu pretty much the centre of all of this.

King Torture continues proving himself as the most genre-savvy supervillain ever! Plot-wise he's the perfect counter-balance to Samurai Flamenco, on par in terms of resolve and idealism.

Like Samumenco the entertainment industry or takusatsu television shows to be more precise has shaped his life. He's steadily operating on a meta-level and entertainment is the law he abides to. And what could possibly spell entertainment more than subverting the audience's expectations and some meticulously built shock value?

While he may have bitten the dust (oh, who am I kidding, guys like him always find a way to come back to life somehow), at least his actions has enabled further development for Masayoshi and Mari, showing them how half-hearted they still are in their roles as superheroes.

You hit on a couple of key points here. We've seen throughout the series how childhood, especially tv, have influenced the characters in the series

Hazama who wanted to become a trad superhero.
King Torture who wanted to become a trad supervillain.
Goto who took the original approach of being a "hero".
Red Ax who was the star of a hero tv show.
Jun who became an inventor and created gadgets like the ones used by heros.
Mari, interestingly enough, is the only principle character that hasn't been directly influenced by hero shows.

There's also the undercurrent of "showbiz" and the media we consume.

Hazamas regular job is as a model, which essentially tries to capture what the general public would consider ideal "beauty".

Mari, a muscian, is the face of a popular idol group. Idol groups are extremely dependent on the image they have.

Red Ax, the aging tv star, is basically thrown away by society and no longer culturally relevant until he pronounces he's samurai flamenco. In the last couple of episodes he have been enjoying his reawakened fame by participating in famous events all over the world.

Hell look at how Samurai Flamenco became popular: through youtube hits. Which is possibly the biggest comtemporary way we consume media. We've also seen other snippets of how the showbiz machine works. How it makes stars and break stars and the people who run them.

I didn't even mention how much King Torture made this dynamic even more interesting. How he breaks the status quo, utterly breaks Mari's facade, AND driven home the point of how stupid it is to imitate what you see on tv is genius.

This show is definitely smarter than it gets credit for.

THIS FREAKING SHOW!

I still have no idea where it's going but I'm still entertained and currently that's what matters to me. When King Torture did that to Moe's finger I was cringing, ouch.

I can see why some viewers would be pissed.

Like another person said, this is either a show completely gone wrong or complete geinus though I'm guessing it's the latter.

This. The show is straddling the line of Sentai/Tokusatsu deconstruction and reconstruction. But I think it has been deliberating avoiding going full decon/recon which might explain why some of the narrative and pacing can feel disjointed.I'am however starting to feel that Samurai Flamencos message is trying to be something bigger. The numerous bonderline 4th wall references and social commentary is starting to make me stop and thing.

The original tagline for this show was "For those adults, who don't want to become a adults". In hind think that slogan might have been sardonic

So the guy who was tortured last episode lived?

The identities of the heroes seems too soon.

Also the fact the bad guys are done now.... where does it go from here? Mari and her friend are probably messed up for a while.

Sadly the thing I'm most curious about is the mysterious girlfriend of Goto.

I was expecting King Torture to be someone Flamenco knew for more drama.

The show so far (for me) has been about what being a hero really is, and all the good and bad things that come attached to being a 'hero' whatever that may be (the show is in the process of developing an images of different kinds of 'heroes' so I'm not too sure exactly what the show is trying to say yet). Anyways, I think thats why people are saying his gf is dead is because Goto started out in the show as a kind of apathetic police man that lost his sense of 'justice' (maybe he lost his gf over a decision to stick with his old sense of justice. 10 episode in he's changed a lot and as he changes more I think he will reveal why he strayed away from his old sense of justice.

As far as the "bad guys" go, if you think about King Torture, he fell towards the dark side for some reason despite looking up to the hero shows as a child. There will always be something to push people over to that side. The ending kinda hints that konno may have found something to keep himself entertained (that odd obsession he had with samurai flamenco is probably not something that will be glossed over).

For mari and the girls, the promo pictures suggest more heroes to come, including 3 bears, so I think that may be the girls but how knows (?)

►| It's exactly the way the producers deliberately play with themes such as childhood attachments that sometimes bears rather strange results, partly mocking those who align their lifes after silly tv shows but also taking time to emphasize that there is a grain of truth in what these characters say and do, that I love.

This show gives us a quite satirical look on these parts of the entertainment industry you mentioned and highlights some of its ridiculous aspects and even problematic issues that comes with them such as desensitization of the audience and its general indifference to problems due to them accustomed to the constant media hype.

►| Sure, it may take some suspension of disbelief to cope with the introduction of the new antagonists but so far it has proven as an excellent writing decision that is properly backed up by good directing that seamlessly switches from an comedic approach to one that dives deeper in the underlying themes of this show and dissects the motivatons of the prominent characters. While it may have lost some of its down-to-earth atmosphere it successfully pushes the entire cast to new heights and causes each member of it to reevaluate their attitudes and course of action.

►| Samurai Flamenco is probably the smartest written show in the noitaminA slot since Un-Go, an unfortunately similarly misunderstood gem that stands out not because of what is directly displayed on screen but because of the implications, references and subtext it provides.

You are missing lots of things.

Why did the show stopped being serious? Actually, it never was.
Why not taking underlings and most of them are a joke? Tokusatsu conventions.
Was the ED supposed to be emotional? No, it was supposed to be creepy, as Mari is utterly broken now, thanks to the sincere advice of KT.
It is a Sentai Parody? Yes and no.
Why is this so full of cliches? Tokusatsu conventions.

King Torture is bro, showed Mari her true persona.
This show is a brilliant mind trap. You people need more Toku.

The episode was something ... scary. King Tortune was fucking demon, it was like watching Saw but scarier. The Ending of the episode, that sucks, did not deserve to end like this, with Mary hurt and to sing out of tune, that was the only flaw.

Ooh, my little finger still doesn't feel safe. Poor Moe. :(

I am interested to see what happens to Mari at this point though. I mean, King Torture basically made her realise how self-centred she's been, but can she really change as a result of this? If I were in her position I don't think I could ever get over how insincere I was in urging my friend to escape, that that's the kind of person I truly am and could very well remain as for the rest of my life unless I change, by some miracle. Surely that's one of the worst forms of torture?

Granted, she probably will change at some point, but it's interesting to think about, for sure.

Pretty decent episode, though. King Torture is a good villain who offers some interesting food for thought and although I sympathise with Mari, good on Moe for being so dedicated to her. :)

Haha, oh god, that ending I didn't find it creepy at all, but just hilarious, perhaps it's because I don't care a tiny bit about Mari.

As for the episode, it was low budget as fuck (as always) and seeing some frames drawn so bad, kinda made me lolling. Aside these things, I really enjoyed it.

King Torture is a bro.

Manager-san is gonna be mad and I'm looking forward to see her reaction.

Mari is a bitch and deserved it.

I just wonder who the next villain will be? A new random one? Or an actually one who will be connected to the story?

The revelation that King Torture was not all that different from Masayoshi...

I'm okay with that. After all, if a hero had to start somewhere like Masayoshi, then it would be apparent a villain had to start somewhere. Of course, there are still a lot of questions that are left unanswered that may or may not be answered in the end (at least with King Torture), but that adds to the appeal of the anime. And I'm okay with that.

I'm glad I didn't let episode seven catch me too off-guard to drop the show. We got an answer even if it's not one we were expecting or wanting. For that, I won't doubt this show any further. I will watch to the very end.

Mari singing at the very end in such a broken tone was hurtful. She may or may not have deserved all of that, even though she needed to be told off about what it was she was doing. If Masayoshi or Goro wasn't going to do it, might as well be the bad guy.
