Oops sorry, totally missed your reply!
That's true, much less work to sub 40 something episodes compared to 137, and since the show is so light on story it makes sense that some people wouldn't really mind the continuity. About Tiger Mask, is it good? I plan on watching it eventually because I'm a sucker for historical value, but I know nothing about it other than that.

Woah that's nice to hear, thanks for letting me know! wonder why they'd sub the second part before finishing the first one, though? specially for such a niche and retro show

I agree roflmao shit has been extra crazy for some reason, let's see where this ends. It'll certainly be an interesting watch!

Yeah, it's a really janky way to finish watching a series but a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do hahah
Also like you said, it's a fun little challenge in it's own right. I wouldn't do it to a story-centric show, but for Kinnikuman it was fine after all is said and done. By the way, did they ever get around to subbing Scramble For The Throne? should be a fun watch too

Happy new year to you too, I'm expecting good things from 2025. It seems the tides might finally be turning in our favor!

Nice! Monster has been great so far and Lugia is by far my favorite pokémon :D

I remember watching about 3/4ths of Kinnikuman subbed, then I found some playlist on BiliBili or Nico Nico or something that had the rest of it unsubbed, so unfortunately I missed out on all the dialogue and story of the final batch of episodes, but I really didn't want to put it on hold so I just powered through. Though the story is simple enough that you can mostly guess what's happening onscreen

Happy new year

I'll keep that in mind in regards to S.A.C. thanks! Black Lagoon just might not be a series for me with how hard it goes with the language. A shame as it looks quite fun, but that's just how it is sometimes. I still appreciate all of your always elaborate input!
Hammontron Dec 29, 2024 3:30 PM
Haha, eclectic taste is a great way of putting it and I'd honestly say that accurately describes my taste in most cases! I'll definitely give Ghost in the Shell a shot since I already have the Blu-ray of the movie, we'll see how far I get with the rest of the series, but I'm rather hesitant on Black Lagoon since I hear it has heavy swearing which I personally like to avoid.

You have an incredible list

I'm glad to hear you guys had a great time! I had a swell Christmas as well and can't wait to get into the goodies I received (such as the Evangelion manga collection alongside the Tylor Blu-ray). Yeah, I've dipped my toes into the Leijiverse a few times over the past couple of years but I'm finally sitting down to experience the definitive entries and I'm loving it so far! I also have to say, your hubby has immaculate taste in characters! Having Shinji and Kaiba already makes him the realest and while I haven't seen their works just yet, I've heard excellent things about Motoko Kusanagi and Revy! It's entirely up to you if you want to tell him any of this, I just had to point out great taste when I saw it!

Merry Christmas! I hope that you and your hubs have a wonderful day and enjoy yourselves through the rest of the season! I look forward to more fun conversations next year! Guess who got Captain Tylor on Blu-ray for Christmas ;)
John-O-Mon Dec 17, 2024 7:04 AM
Thanks for that. It had took me this long to finally reach 300. Now 99 more anime's until I reach 400.

(Sorry for not checking my messages earlier since I'm not use to checking them.)

I am so loving all the ongoing salt I'm seeing in my brainwashed area. The gloating I get to do is fantastic.
Hammontron Nov 8, 2024 6:26 PM
Your comments on Tylor have been duly noted, and I hope to get into it sooner than later! Excel Saga is another I really want to check out since I've heard it mentioned a bunch since I started Bo-bobo and it sounds like another great gag comedy. I haven't seen any clips, but I've listened to the OP numerous times because it's such a bop!
Hammontron Nov 8, 2024 4:06 PM
AAAH! I've been wanting to watch Captain Tylor so badly! It seems like a show that's right up my alley! Christmas is just over a month away, so I'm hoping I can pick up the Blu-rays of the series and OVAs!
Hammontron Nov 8, 2024 1:58 PM
Dang, that's really interesting stuff about dubs and studios! I'd still consider myself to be in an early phase of anime/manga consumption, so despite having already seen quite a bit from Toei, I never really picked up on the inconsistencies of their production, though I can totally see it now that you've explicitly stated it. If you have the Bo-bobo Blu-ray by Discotek, I believe you'd be safe giving the sub a try because even though I'm only a bit over halfway through, every joke rooted in Japanese culture has been handily explained by a short and sweet footnote or subtitle so I can quickly understand the point that's being made and enjoy it. God bless the folks at Discotek! I'd be so lost as an anime fan without them!
Hammontron Nov 8, 2024 11:48 AM
Sorry, I should've been more specific. The sub still has a lot Japanese word-play, which Discotek did a really impressive job translating in a way that made the jokes easy to understand, but I was referring to the dub's attempts at adding word-play or silly dialogue where there wasn't any initally. An example being a scene where Don Patch beats the snot out of a villain who says, "I felt that!" but in the dub says, "That's a buncha punch!" The latter is certainly sillier but it does stuff like this so frequently, likely for the amusement of children, that I don't enjoy it as much as the sub which doesn't feel the need to make EVERY line of dialogue silly. The dub also added dialogue where there wasn't any initially in certain scenes, probably to hold the attention span of kids, which I didn't find to be as effective as the sub because the duration and timing of the silence leading up to the punch-line just made the gags that much better. Just my personal take though.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
