Destroying that weat by digging out each sprout individually was probably the most work these guys have done that entire year. That's some next level pettiness

Thorfinn has gone through hell and back so many times that you can't blame him for being unsure on what he should do to help solve his internal issues. It was a good thing that Sverkel eavesdropped on that conversation, as he took Thorfinn and Einar to the coastline to catch fish, where he imparted some words of wisdom about how being empty isn't a bad thing, but rather a good thing where he can be reborn as a different and better man.

The talk between Einar and Thorfinn afterwards was also rather heartwarming and full of inspirational hope, showing how close their friendship has become. =)

Sadly, the good things came to an abrupt end as the pair arrived to see their wheat fields, where they've worked tirelessly over many months to become what it was, all in ruins, with the roots all pulled up and destroyed. I can't blame how furious Einar was and his suspicion of the retainers being responsible for the damage here was spot on. Not only that, but he now knows that Arnheid's position which only adds to his sorrow.

Eventually, the pair come face to face with the retainers, with the main guy of the group not holding back his toxic dislike and jealousy to the "slaves". Einar's patience at this point had snapped and he was ready to unleash his fist, which the retainer guy seemed to be anticipating. What he didn't expect was Thorfinn to deliver a solid left hook to his face, breaking his jaw in the process.

I won't lie, Thorfinn's punch felt VERY satisfying, but he snapped back and went into another case of worry which zoned him out of the brawl at that point. Einar was holding his own, despite being vastly outnumbered, although I don't think he'll win his fight. Either way, I can only hope that the pair get off lightly and the retainers get the fitting punishment that they deserve.

This episode didn't hold back and it was simply amazing as a result. This is another reason why I really love this series.

I guess after spending so much time with Askeladd, Thorfinn learned to eventually move on from his hate as well as from advice of Canute.

third 9/10 episode this season.

I'm still waiting for an episode as good as true warrior, or end of prologue, but this season seems to have a slower start, which I for one have been loving.

I actually think I'm enjoying this season more. all of the episodes feel like 5 minutes.

Incredible episode, a very bittersweet episode and with many mixed feelings, happiness because Thorfinn looks much better, sadness for the crops of einar and thorfinn, angry at the servants and satisfaction for the blow of Thorfinn to a servant

Simply Vinland Saga
I'm not a critic or anything like that but I like to give my opinion

The scene way Thorfinn states that he no longer hates Askeladd gives me the hint that he kind of sad that Askeladd is dead. Those two flashbacks of Askeladd telling him to stop and asking him to move on tell me that Thorfinn knows somewhere in his heart that at the last moment Askeladd cared for him. That's why Thorfinn cannot bring himself to hate him.

And is it just me or was the animation stellar this episode?!

yes, this is the thorfinn i love to see. bros jaw got dislocated and lost a couple teeth. very solid episode, definitely better than last week's. even the animation was an upgrade from last week.
so einar has become aware of arnheid's activities, that's tough. way sooner than i expected. always good to see some more of askeladd too.

Never felt so angry at someone for disrespecting crops in such manner. Pretty sure that stupid retainer won't be able to talk normally anymore after such devastating blow.

So it seems we will go full introspection next week, huh? Really looking forward to it.

well this a heavy episode. i wonder if the thing he's forgotten about is his mum and sis.

einar is starting to understand what's happening with arhenid girl, if it is ever revealed to him that she has to sleep with the master then it might not come as big of a shock.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.
Feeling half happy, half sad.

Thorfinn tells Einar more about his past and talks about Askeladd, I'm glad he's opening up more to Einar plus that farmhand got what he deserved at the end that's what you get for stealing their chance at freedom!

great episode!

thorfinn’s journey is very personal to me, we’ve both started early learning how to survive, thorfinn surviving purely to get revenge and nothing more. now that he doesn’t need to anymore, he’s like “what now? i don’t know how to live any other way?” luckily, he’s surrounded by people that will help him learn new things, the things he was supposed to learn when he busy with revenge. and it will great journey for him. he’s already learned so much in the time with einar, he’s able to help him when he needs it after the unfortunate wheat incident.

and another well deserved punch!

Jesus, I actually think this was my favorite episode of Vinland Saga yet.

I think one of my favorite things of anything with this episode was Sverkel’s lectures. There’s a big reason why Sverkel is all about “work” and “learning new things.” If you stay idle doing nothing for a long period of time, you can become lost in your thoughts and when you have as many dark thoughts and memories as Thorfinn has, those thoughts can devour you.

In contrast, working and staying active can take your mind off the nagging thoughts that are bothering you. I’ll just flat out admit that I’m someone who has been battling depression for at least 20 years. One of the things that has helped me keep my sanity is staying dedicated to my work and trying to acquire new skills. While yes, it’s not healthy to completely bottle your feelings and dedicate yourself only to work, accomplishing things through work can be a cathartic experience that can alleviate burdens to some extent.

I got the sense that Sverkel knew what Thorfinn was going through and is trying to show him the way to becoming a better person through hard work and a dedication to learn.

The scene with Einar and Thorfinn walking back through the woods sure hit hard as well. Thorfinn clearly has this belief that he is irredeemable through the atrocities he has committed when Einar is showing him that he has already grown and changed into a better person than the warriors he fought with and against on the battlefield.

This show is just downright amazing. I’d even argue that Vinland Saga is quickly becoming my favorite anime of the last 7-8 years.
