| ...wow. Those last few minutes were incredible. Almost shed some tears even. At first I didn't really understand why Hambert died when he's supposed to be immortal, but then I remembered one of his lines in the last episode, where he explains his theory that God is granting everyone's wishes. 5/5 episode. God damn is this show's quality a surprise. |
| 20/10! THE FEELS! SO MUCH FEELS at the end. It was so touching that Hambert found out that Ai was his daughter all the long. I couldn't believed that He died ;__ ; Well at least he died happy like he wished and leave good memories with Ai. Also Scar is much a badass! I wonder what Ai will do after this? I'm pretty sure she might go with Julie Sakuma Dmitriyevich and Scar and continue the adventure or something like that. |
| Wow, finally...I saw an anime that made me tear up and cry. It has been a while since that happened. Hell, it's probably the first anime this year to make me tear up. I'm really looking forward to this series if it can continue to wow me like this through three episodes. |

| This episode surprised me a lot in a good way. I definitely felt impact for Hambert's death, and I wonder how the rest of the series will play out now that the supposed male lead is gone. |

| This is just cruel, having the daughter bury her mother at the age of 7 and when she finally finds her father after 5 years, she has to bury him too T^T I'm loving this story and setting to death, it's been a while since I've been this enthousiastic about a new anime, oh how I wish the novels would've been translated so I'd be able to read them... I'm very curious what'll happen from now on though, this episode kind of felt like an ending. The preview showed some new and interesting characters but I sure as hell hope they'll at least survive that episode. |

Also anime-style drawn character tend to look like each other but if you look at most daughter-mother pair in real life it isn't as evident. The way Ai described Hana was how he came to realize that Ai's mother was Hana and on further inspection he found that she possesses some traits similar to her mother but it is still not something that is evident for the character themselves. |

Also the character development by all the characters seems rushed. I mean didn't that guy want to duel the immortal guy and now he's talking about him like he's a special friend? Also unless I missed something, how the hell did that immortal guy die? Another thing why the hell was the girl following him in the first place? I mean in all rights she should hate the guy for killing everyone in the village. I pretty sure she didn't know the people were already dead, so what was her reason for following the man who killed her loved ones? |

| That goes on the shelf of saddest first few episodes of an anime, right up there with the 3rd episode of SAO. Both were such amazing episodes and part of me hates myself for thinking that. |
| I really wish I waited to watch this until it was finished airing. I really really really wish I did. I can't tell you how much I cried. At first, I thought nothing of it because he's immortal, but then she buries him...and I lost it. I get the feeling that I'm going to read the manga tomorrow. |

As explained in ep 2, Hampnie and Yuri were old childhood friends and despite Hampnie killing his already dead wife Yuri knew it really had to be done. He didn't start to "seek revenge" until his daughter died and ha had nothing to live for, the revenge being a way to die with purpose. Hampnie skipped out on his duel because he didn't want to kill his best friend. Yuri decided to help Ai save Hampnie because despite everything he knew they were still friends. As for Ai, they dropped hints that she knew everyone was already dead and that they either just decided not to have her saw that she outright knew or they were trying to subtly convey that she was trying to deny the fact that she knew they were dead. Ai is pretty smart for a 12 year old. |

Feelings are more complicated than simply liking or hating someone. He knows that what Hambart did was the logically correct thing to do. Both of them are still childhood friend, they lived and went through a great deal of experience together. He might not be able to forgive Hambart for sending a grave-keepers to bury his wife but he is mature enough to reason that Hambart did it for both of their sake. He liked him and hated him. This is purely speculation but I believe this makes a great deal of sense: His immortality was granted by God for he wished not to die before finding the woman he loves, Hana. The moment he learned that Hana is Ai's mother and understood that she passed away, he lost all reason to pursue his wish. Since Hana is dead he cannot meet her again, that's an answer he is content with. At that moment, God's gift fulfilled it's duty and Hambart's immortality was lifted. Hambart was supposed to be dead since long ago. If you do not mind a RPG analogy then Hambart was a character with 0 HP that was still alive due to a hack (his immortality). The moment this hack was lifted, the system detected he was at 0 HP and he died. This sound pretty simple but I believe it is like that. The moment he was supposed to die was long ago, even if his body repaired itself because of his immortality, that same immortality was also the last string that held his life. Ai is a 12 year old girl that lived her whole life surrounded by the people she loved and the only sad experience she ever had was when her mother died. She was basically surrounded by happiness most of her life. Her village is destroyed, everyone she know is dead, she knows nothing of the outside world and what's more, she is very confused. She hated him at first but she had only two choice: To depend on him and survive or to aimlessly wanders in the wood and probably die. Ai is much more intelligent than she act, instead of simply sticking to her visions of things, she seeks the reason why this has happened. She knew that the people in her village were dead, she simply didn't want to accept it. They tried to hide it from her but in the deepest part of her hearth, she was aware of it. She's a grave-keepers and she is able to sense this kind of thing even if she doesn't have full control over it. |
