She is a beautifully written character, much better written than any other female character in anime. I'm not even capping

Wow, I leave this place for a week and this is the trendy thread when I come back?

You mean the mute character with a backstory that made me regret Elfen Lied? That'd hurt me lol.

i dont get why people actually like her THAT much since shes only a strong brain damaged pawn which obeys eren ._.
even if someone loves her - maybe because shes badass (even tho there are even more and better badass chaarcters out there but whatever) or for some mysterious reason :D - i dont think even those fans of hers would say shes written well lmao
the writing is pretty shit compared to other characters
why would you even think of such a question tf

People like Mikasa because they only look at physical strength. Self-delusional.

Nope. Historia and Ymir are much better characters.

I legit don't see any difference between Mikasa and Historia. Except for third season part 1 where Historia had her moments (which I think was plot driven more than anything, like it wasn't really for the sake of her development imo), that was IT. Her character stopped developing from there. Ymir and even Gabi are far more interesting than Historia and Mikasa.

The difference between Historia and Mikasa is night and day. Historia was neglected, traumatized, but she overcame it. In turn, she used her newfound strength to do good: Saving Eren, serving as the Queen that benefited the people. Historia was selfish--doing things that she'll be proud of.

Mikasa, on the other hand, wasn't able to let go of Eren. She dies simping for him, who didn't show any affection until the last minute--which was a shove in.

I agree. I'm not saying she didn't have a development, she did, but that was it. To me after that arc, her character has seen no progress. Many see Mikasa as just the pathetic simp that clings to Eren who is the only family she has left. She lost family twice as a kid and felt indebted to the people who took her in because if it weren't for them, she would have ended up homeless or dead. I personally see her as someone who still hasn't recovered from that trauma yet, and that justifies her actions. It's a warfare and the dearest people to her are soldiers, so she chose to be there with them all along.

I can't deny that she didn't have a development whatsoever, but I think it's not hard to understand why she acts the way she does. I think after watching season 4, we will definitely see some changes in her character.
I sometimes forget to finish my sentences.

Yeah, honestly, all the characters got butchered in the end. In my eyes, I thought Mikasa's development was to move on from Eren. It was heavily empathized in the final few arcs. I'm just pissed Isayama changed it.

In the end, Historia was wasted. Eren was butchered. Mikasa was thrown away for simping. Reiner's character was also thrown out. The ending was absolutely horrible.

Finally - AoT related thread makes a comeback. I thought all the AoT fans just disappeared into nothingness after that ending....

Mikasa - Best written character? Not even close. I enjoy her character, but she's not what you call best written. Best written character does not have "Eren..." as 90% of her dialogue. There are dozens of better written female character out there. Monogatari series has an entire cast of some of the best written female characters. Holo, Revy etc are also some other examples.

Definitely not. She might have had a little more depth in the manga compared to the Eren simp she is in the anime, but there's not a whole lot to her except that she's an Ackermann and she's strong. Although I will say that she's still better written than Sakura, but then again a lot of female characters are better written than Sakura.

Mikasa behaves like a man most of the time, and she is basically just there to protect Eren. And she is not even attractive, unlike other famous anime heroines, so I don't know why some people like her so much.
Among the strong female characters, Eris from Mushoku Tensei, for example, is clearly a lot more interesting.

I don't think Mikasa is such a well written character. There are better written women in AoT imo, but she is definitely not bad. I really love Yonsa Balsa from Seirei no Moribito, since she is a completely different type of woman and extremely well written.

Even as a huge AOT fan (despite the abomination that is the final arc), I must admit that Mikasa is a pretty poorly written charatcer. Besides having incredible strength and hence fighting ability, and being unconditionally devoted to Eren, there isn't much that stands out about Mikasa in my opinion.

Absolutely not. There are so many others that are written better and are more interesting from start to finish. Kaori Miyazono (Your lie in April), Kurisu Makise (Steins Gate) and Shouko Nishimiya (A Silent Voice) are just a few that are better.

Follow if you agree :)

The general impression I got from watching Shingeki no Kyojin weekly since its airing is that everyone loved her at first for her defined abs/back and titan slaying ability, but now people think she's super bland and one dimensional compared to say, Gabi, for example. Or Levi, as a male counterpart.

I don't think I particularly cared for any character outside of Erwin tbh.
Any one of them could have died at any point, in any order, and I would still have been completely unfazed.

Good show tho.

Erehh here and Erehh there, a sprinkle of obsessive compulsive behavior, and being unreasonably dumb all because of Erehh.

If you see that as an aspect of a well-written character, idk if you're smokin' that pack. She's just as good as Dr. Tofu in Ranma 1/2.

P.S. I get the joke but yeah. Keep smokin' that pack.

A LOT of people do with female characters.
All that it really seems to take is that they're '' modest '' and are good at fighting.
That basically makes them '' the best most stronkest female character ever created '' according to people online it seems.

I mean it's basically a trope at this point to slice a characters boobs off when trying to market them as a rebooted '' strong female character '' in Western media.

I was going to say that. Although then again, I only watched season 1. I feel a lot of Mikasa's popularity can be attributed to how she's a very strong female character that mostly revolves around the self-insert male lead, just like Rem from Re: Zero. Personally, I much prefer female characters who are independent, in the sense that their lives don't revolve around one character.

SnK has the worst-written characters of any anime i've ever seen. Mikasa is a character who always calls Eren, does not have a personality, but is beloved for being reflected very strongly. The character has no depth or good lines. Anime fans' lack of taste is ridiculously disturbing. Almost all the female characters in the anime i watched were better than Mikasa.

She’s a good character, but my far the best written. If her character was not so centered around Eren, I feel like she would be so much better.
It kinda irks me that she is so written around Eren, because she is a very strong female character but at the end of the day, it’s all because she’s in love with the male main character. It’s a really annoying trope.

Ymir was the best written female aot character IMO.

But Ymir's character revolves around Historia... or is it only bad if a character revolves around a male character lol.

Ymir is more interesting because she’s not only a Titan, but really you don’t know much about her backstory or where she came from like Annie or Reiner or the other Titans. Ymir’s mysterious backstory is what intrigued me about her.🤷
