Never seen any Astro Boy related stuff before but this was excellent.
I did feel the first half was stronger though, and Gesicht's story was the best for sure.

Great adaptation of another one of Urasawa’s great stories. A story that gives you all the clues and forces you to think to put the pieces together.
I hope they do 20th Century Boys next

Kind of sad to see the series end... But I don't think I want another season? This was a very cohesive, complete story. I wouldn't want to see it dragged-out just for the sake of new episodes or anything. Maybe another, separate story?

Watched this anime last year. It was my first time watching Naoki Urasawa's work and i gotta say i really liked it especially the first episode was a banger. I liked the mysteries but i would still say i was not satisfied with the ending. Though it does take it's ending from Astro Boy because this is kinda a readaptation of that, and after watching Pluto i saw how much Naoki Urasawa took from Astra Boy and placed it here but it was done so differently and masterfully that it made me appreciate his work. Definetely my top 3 anime of 2023, i will read the manga some day just to feel the difference and i will also try to get into more of Urasawa's work.

I binged this in one day coming right off finishing Monster, and watching these series back to back like this highlighted how entrenched Urasawa's presentational styles, aesthetic, and themes are in this show. Monster is obviously better, but he does the enigmatic mystery thriller so well. I loved seeing Astro Boy reimagined in this kind of lens.

great show, good drama, beautiful style, fascinating scope and mystery, and, despite the "robots are humans too!" trope being beaten to death, Pluto made me feel excited to see it for the first time in a long time.

I should read 20th Century Boys while I'm on a roll.

I loved this show , it has become one of my favs , this anime made me interested in artfiicial intelligence and robots , and i know a lot more about the invasion of iraq as i became curious about the real life parallels , i really liked the last episode , but i feel it shouldve expanded in the end a bit more , urasawa wanted to give a tribute to astro boy and thats why it ended a bit rushy i feel , but other than that the ep was flawless , sahad crying was pretty sad and he just has to be pitied for being used to kill when he wanted to just grow flowers and give a colorful view , he did give a colorful view but not in the way he would like to . Abullahs reveal was pretty cool as well, so his "i lost most of my organic body in the war" wasnt true , he was a robot created by tenma! and was goji disguised as abullah ,as ochanomizu said tenma is a contradicted individual , i really liked abullahs character throughout the show , and the scene where brau1589 said to tenma when he wanted to find abullah himself , he said and i quote "dont worry dr , he will find you himself", it was chills. This ep was moving a bit too quick , so many plot points to gather , it felt like a race , which is opposite to urasawas monster , i loved the reveal of gesichts malfunction and his adopted child , i feel like this show did the cycle of hatred and the weight of emotions better than most shows, but honestly im annoyed with the same message over and over again in every show (there are new things to explore). Gesicht , abullah and epsilon would be my fav characters. The weather journalist reporting the problem was a pretty hype scene, I feel like the show shoulve also explored adolf and the anti-robot group after but i dont why it wasnt explored. But this show tends to leave out characters when theyre purpose is done , some are actually killed off , but maybe just explore the anti robot group. I loved the art style and the detective work in robot contexts , i loved the characters writing , i loved the introduction scenes of every episode , and how the characters reveal themselves , i loved how this foreshadowed the use of robots in the future , tho not happy that they will be used for mass destruction as well , every episode felt like a big package , i was nervous for an hour long format, but they nailed it out of the park, and ofc there are some great set of soundtracks here , especially the one that north no 2 part played . 10/10

From intriguing sci-fi thriller to generic battle Shounen with a lot of plot conveniences (many of them already mentioned in this same thread) and talk-no-jutsu moments in the last two episodes. Well, that was lame.
So the U.S. president as well as an evil AI in the form of a teddy bear were the big baddies all along, huh?... Wait, what?

6/10 - Gesicht's storyline was the only engaging aspect this show had. Killing him off was a mistake.

It's hard for me to not try to compare this to Monster. Pluto definitely dabbled into the storytelling style that I experienced with Monster, and it had me excited in the early episodes. As it carried on, it seemed to become less edgy and a little more cliche, which made it lose that feeling I had early on. Overall, I enjoyed Pluto. But in all, it really just makes me want to rewatch Monster and experience how amazing it was, again.

Side note: I just finally realized the Anna Liebert looking character that I kept seeing in the OP was actually Epsilon.

The best anime Netflix has ever produced and arguably one of the greatest ever made. It's intricately plotted, has a tremendous amount of thought put into its setting and characters, is both thought provoking and poignant in equal measure and features some of the best art direction I've seen in an anime (which is pretty amazing seeing as the studio behind it is a relatively new player). This may be recency bias talking, but right now I have no qualms with giving this a 10/10.

It's definitely not flawless since the supercomputer and Thrachia's role in the final episode felt like they could have been better woven into earlier parts of the story but everything else is just so damn good that it didn't detract from the overall experience.

Yeah that was really good. I only know Urasawa from Monster and now this. but he does not disappoint. I think I like Monster better, but I need more time to mull this series over. Episode 6 of Pluto in particular was extremely good. Anyway that was a great ride. Hopefully more of his stuff gets adapted.

one of the worst final episodes I have ever witnessed, urasawa lost all his talent after the first part of 20th century boys. I'm amazed how people eat this shit but in the end, most people are simple minded

I had been waiting to watch this since back in 2017 when there were leaks about Pluto getting an anime adaptation and 6 years later we finally got it
It definitely did not disappoint and was an amazing anime
I ended up binging the whole show in a day
I loved the characters and the story and the pacing was perfect

Let's hope we get as good of an adaptation for 20th century boys some day
fingers crossed

Definitely expected more of Bora but ultimately was defeated rather easily.
Bit of an abrupt ending but satisfying either way.

Fantastic story though, not something we haven't seen before nor was it as grandiose as I would've wanted but still great.
It's always interesting to see AI become more human than actual human beings.
Cycled of hatred is always an interesting topic and with the addition of AI it hits very close to home these days.

Appreciated the hour long episodes too, really gets you invested in a big story and world like this.
I wanted more but it did the job, a generous 9/10 from me.

Easily the most trope-heavy episode by far.

*SPOILERS*
Even has that "if I kill the villain (even though he brutally murdered all my friends that the anime painstakingly set up for us to get emotionally attached to), I'd be just as bad as him" trope

All in all, still a very good modern anime, and when it hits it's a home run.

All of Urasawa's works have the same problems: a hollow, kitsch morality because he pretends to go into the depths of things while remaining too afraid to explore real evil; bland characters, especially his female ones it must be said*; a trainwreck of plot twists which start off interesting but get gradually more frustrating as time goes on. I had hoped at least this last problem would be mitigated by the story being prepared for him in advance, but alas he manages to screw it up. Not having read the original I can't tell what elements are truly his contribution. Knowing Tezuka's other works the man was not afraid to explore some very dark places, Atom is supposed to a children's series so idk.

I'm with some of the replies above that quality dipped in the last 2 episodes but the story is faithful to the original so mustn't complain.

I read the manga a few years ago so many things got hazy... apparently here's your obligatory "human is in fact robot/android" twist but this time it happens to a villain, not a hero. the reveal that the Teddy & Prez have been the ultimate villains behind the scenes seems a bit farfetched and not quite convincing. finally, I don't get what the spear-chucking robot aims to accomplish cuz the Teddy is just the avatar (perhaps with a Bluetooth speaker inside) and not the supercomputer itself (which resides inside the ginormous server instead) so what's a mundane spear gonna do to it?

overall an 8/10 (-1 due to the last episode)

@HandStuckInTable very well put

for me he's a master of suspense who really really excels at the buildup but his reveal almost always falls short of expectations

I still can't believe that Ochanomisu told Tenma to touch grass.
@Supremestrawhat Lmao, exactly how i saw it.

Im surprised this was made to anime, i will be honest, completely slept on it, had no idea it came out, but glad it did. Loved it (not as much as i did Monster).
Wish this will open the door for more of his manga to be adapted.
The end, it kinda felt anti climatic, but loved it and the mc SPOILER dying, didnt feel cheap.
This was a great surprise to me.

good watch, had been planning to get to something Astro Boy for the longest time but this ended up being my first foray into the franchise.

that will probably end up true for a fair amount of us I guess, who didn't grow up with Astro Boy but watched this on netflix!

it leaves me kind of unsure where to go from here tho and how the others will compare...since this is probably quiet different to other Astro Boy universe stuff.

Finished, great show. Surprised me in a lot of places. Again, it's a simple message but you can't argue that you don't need to hear this message again and again.

The last 20 minutes felt like they ran out of time and had to wrap things up: would of loved a bit more action between Pluto, Atom and Bora, the other villain getting to the President felt quick and unanswered, the climax of seeing the sky filled with flowers should of been revealed in a slower and emotional way, but other than that I don't have any complaints.

Okay maybe the pacing is slow and this could of been a 3 hour movie instead, but that's just me.

It feels like they finally remembered that this is an Atom story, after all. All the mystery thriller mechanics and philosophical musings built up to something very simple and kid-friendly. The ending mostly landed, but it could've been much better, and I feel a little dumb now for becoming so invested.

Still, overall I loved watching this, and I'm glad this kind of show exists.
