Hello, I'm Sam. I hate
generic harem anime and I love
comedy anime and
psychological thriller anime.
My favorite animation production studios are
ufotable,
Kyoto Animation and
MAPPA. I also used to consider
White Fox as one of my favorites, but it's been too long since they've produced anything noteworthy (2010 - 2013 were their glory days and their only REALLY interesting production after that was Re:Zero S1, while S2 was... fine).
Feel free to leave a comment down below if you want to talk.
I'm usually pretty slow at responding though. Oh, and I don't accept random friend requests.

It's gonna be a bit weird when it's all over. I didn't follow it during most of season 3 (part 1 and 2) I think so I haven't really been there for the entire ride, but I feel a bit weird thinking it's going to no longer be ongoing relatively soon. It's been going on for quite some time now.
I think it also seems to be setting up Mikasa to play Suzaku's role, so uh. It'll be an interesting ending, I'm sure.
Yes, that was all. I just felt like I needed to get that out of my system culz
I've been mostly watching the various Marvel and Star Wars series on Disney+, but not really putting effort into finding "new" stuff that I didn't already know about, so not really watching a lot there either.
Feel like I heard somewhere about some service that basically was a single subscription that had access to a bunch of other streaming services, but quite likely not something that was ever available here, and it's been a while since I heard about it so maybe it died or something (¬‿¬)
Zeke's plan was just weird. Basically stopping just short of killing all the Eldians directly by taking away any kind of future for them. Hey world, you don't need to kill us anymore, we'll just die off on our own and everyone will be happy!
Am I missing something or wasn't that what his plan boiled down to in the end? (¬‿¬)
And I mean, Armin's gotta think faster to come up with that plan, I don't think Eren or the rest of the world are going to wait for him to figure something better out (¬‿¬)
I would definitely watch a Ghibli movie titled The internet was a mistake, especially if it's Miyazaki's real final film after his last final film. (¬‿¬)
Hey turns out random weird cryptic messages can serve a purpose too, eh? lulz
Maybe I should just actually put up that archive library on plex for BDs, put 86 there when it's all out, and rewatch the whole thing culz
I think it's probably good enough for a rewatch given the time it's taken since I put it away due to the delays and the amount of episodes I have left to watch. Probably. At least the soundtrack will be a good rewatching experience (¬‿¬)
And then I'll find some other BDs I feel are worth archiving and put that there for posterity as well.
Incidentally, I never watched the Demon Slayer movie, but I watched the TV version of the Mugen Train Arc. It's ufotable so even the TV version is basically movie quality animation anyway, right lulz
Honestly though I don't really get how Demon Slayer is so popular. I mean, sure it's good, but does it really appeal to literally everyone and their dogs? That's what I find weird about it.
I actually didn't watch the Heaven's Feel movies yet, you just reminded me that they exist (¬‿¬)
I think I decided against watching the first one when I heard there were going to be sequel movies, figuring I'll just watch them when they're all out. And I haven't yet.
Actually, I ordered some new books yesterday, and by books I mean LNs and mango, and in that order was another volume of the SAO Alicization arc. As well as some Seraph mango and Mahouka LNs. I'm a couple volumes behind on Alicization, but I find that to actually be about as good, if not better, than the original SAO arc. I've also refused to watch the Alicization animu yet, since I want to finish reading it first before I'm disappointed by the adaptation (¬‿¬)
Way back I made this automated XDCC plugin for one of the irc clients because I'm all for putting effort into reducing effort, then I got a friend to help out with some refactoring and shit and now that plugin has more automation, can run headless on a server and has Telegram integrations. Technology, man. Still plenty of development to do there, but all in due time.
And then I ended up with plex on the server mostly for simulwatching reasons, pretty easy to set up a shared library where you can then watch stuff together with friends. Roughly half the shows I watch I watch with friends lulz
I did actually consider going full legal by registering for some streaming service, but then I realised that there's at least 3 services I'd need to register for if I want to watch all my animu. I don't consider that a viable option.
Heck, I even cancelled my Netflix subscription again before new year's since they raised the price yet again and I don't watch enough on there to warrant that cost. I'll resub again at some point when there's something specific I want to watch, but for now I'll stick to only having Disney+. Though when my yearly subscription of that ends in September or so I'll probably cancel that one too and only subscribe to a single streaming service when there's something I want to watch there.
I resubbed to Netflix last time for the second season of the Witcher, even tried Prime Video for a bit to watch The Wheel of Time. I have yet to try HBO though. One day, maybe.
See, normally I'd consider myself against genocide. That stuff is bad, after all. But I gotta admit Eren does have a point. If the world is hell-bent on exterminating your entire race and you've allegedly seen the future and confirmed that is indeed the case, you're kind of left with the options of either accepting that your end will come probably soon-ish, or making sure your end doesn't come by instead endng your supposed enders. That was a fun sentence to write.
Imagine becoming the queen, as is your birthright, and then being relegated to producing royal babies instead of continuing to be plot-relevant :T
Every time I hear anything about death threats and stuff for the dumbest things I keep thinking the internet was a mistake. Maybe near-complete anonymity isn't a great thing after all. Police state dystopia when (¬‿¬)
Gabi probably did have one of the better character development arcs. Man, she sure was annoying at first, but at this point I quite like her. And I'd totally read an LN with that title, if only out of curiosity culz
Actually, maybe we're not even getting Ghibli these days either. I feel like last time I saw a Ghibli movie in the cinema was uhhh the one that came after The Wind Rises. Now, I don't go to the cinema that often, but I feel like I'd notice if they would show any kind of animu. Sweden is kinda weird, technologically and societally very progressive, yet simultaneously behind the times on things like media that's popular all around the world.
86 is pretty neat, though I've paused it for now since I heard the last 2 or so episodes would be delayed for quite a while. Where I am now there was a .5 recap episode released so figured I'll stop there until the remainder is out so I have something to refresh my memory with lulz
Real good OST, but that was a given (¬‿¬)
I find Demon Slayer pretty enjoyable, but part of it is possibly due to ufotable's glorious animation. Incidentally I had a rather cryptic comment on my profile recently from someone who seemed upset that I rated Demon Slayer higher than the first two seasons of AoT culz
I feel like I don't mind whatever ufotable decides to work on, as long as they stick to one show at a time and can keep their production values up without diluting it with more simultaneous productions. I'm sure that in most cases it'll end up being enjoyable to watch either way, at least for the spectacle if nothing else.
Real neat BGM throughout the whole city clean-up, good shit. Funnily enough I recognise the vocal track from one of Sawano's nZk albums, Barricades on the iv album. (¬‿¬) Guessing it's not the first time it's used in the series, but didn't specifically notice it before.
I feel like 40 shows is a conservative estimate for the amount of shows actually airing nowadays, but yeah it's definitely gained in popularity in recent years, and I imagine the advent of computer-aided animation also helps reduce the amount of time and work required to create new animu.
Man, I remember a couple seasons where I basically watched everything that aired. Imagine trying to do that now.
I've been thinking I should archive more animu BDs, but I usually end up never rewatching shows again after I finish them so I don't really go to the effort of finding BD releases at a later time. If I do archive something though I should probably set up a separate library on my plex server for BDs to have it easily accessible in one place without filling up my other weekly animu library.
Speaking of though, do fansub groups still release BDs via XDCC as well? I've got my fully automated XDCC setup with a bot running on my server, downloading new episodes of shows I watch, putting them on plex and notifying me through a Telegram bot when there's new stuff to watch so at this point I'm just so deep into XDCC that I don't ever want to replace it (¬‿¬)
I dunno man, Reiner was among my favourite characters before the time skip, he was just a pretty cool dude in general, but now I think he's average at best, unlikeable at worst. There was probably a specific moment that triggered it, but I can't quite put my finger on when I changed my mind on him.
Had the funniest experience with Gabi's character actually. Heard her at first and was like hey that sounds a lot like Sakura Ayane, then during their family dinner she explains an explosion of some sort and I'm just like yup Ayaneru confirmed. She voices Clarisse in Granblue Fantasy, in which she relatively often exclaims dokkan culz
Meanwhile strangely enough I'm all for angry nihilist Eren lately, but I actually disliked him for most of the show (¬‿¬)
Historia lowkey overall best character development arc though.
The Brothers episode was <good>.
Right now I think I can see how it could end within the next couple episodes, barring any further twists. Kinda feel like the ED song and animation both hint at Eren going full Lelouch, and so far that checks out. But I reckon a movie to cap it off isn't unlikely either, or at least a double length final episode.
Now, strangely enough, animu in cinemas is still not a thing here. Sweden is clearly just behind on that kinda thing. Like, we did get Your Name, but that was during the Stockholm Film Festival back in 2016, after which it was shown for a short time in regular cinemas before it disappeared again, never to be seen again.
The only animu we consistently get in cinemas is like new pokemon movies and ghibli stuff. Though don't think there have been any new pokemon movies in a while now, judging by the lack of them being shown in cinemas (¬‿¬)
So for one, LIDENFILMS evokes exactly nothing from my brain, aside from "why is it all caps Japan plz".
There is definitely a lot of isekai going on, yeah. A small part of it is actually good, the majority is probably uninteresting at best, and then there's a sub-genre of isekai that is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine; the trashy isekai (¬‿¬) Do note that bad isekai and trashy isekai are not the same. I think what makes the difference is mostly the level of how seriously the show is taking itself. If that makes any sense.
I think as long as you're not going into Mushoku expecting to be blown away you'll probably enjoy it. It's a pretty solid show.
The day DaiDen is adapted is the day I return to fansubbing. Maybe. Possibly. Probably not. Thanks simulstreams for killing fansubs.
Well, yeah, I think I said that too, or maybe I didn't but thought I did, a show doesn't necessarily have to be unpredictable to be enjoyable. If just being unpredictable was the key then writers could put together the weirdest shit just for sheer unpredictability and that'd be a train wreck. Probably depends a bit on the type of story, the big differentiator possibly being whether the show has a plot-driven or character-driven narrative. A feel like AoT isn't so much dependent on the characters, but rather on the various plots weaving together into a whatever it is at this point.
Which is a good thing, because I find myself disliking a lot of the characters lately. Like for one, Reiner gets worse with every second his character develops. I feel like AoT has a way of making a lot of characters unlikeable and I can't tell if this is intentional or accidental, or if it's just me being weird.
And now just 4 more episodes including the one that came out last night and I'll be all caught up on AoT. I feel like I'm vaguely starting to make out the ending but I feel like there's at least one more twist hidden in there before it becomes clearer.
Yeah, at first AoT was kinda fine, it was entertaining enough to watch. Then it's been gradually getting better, so you really just need that initial push to get past the first parts before the ball gets rolling. Now it just needs to stick the landing before final judgment, but as it stands now I don't yet know exactly how it's going to end, which I think is a good thing.
Literally can't unsee Japanese former PM Koizumi Junichiro on a seqway, comes to mind whenever seqways and animu cross paths in my head (¬‿¬) Don't even remember where I first saw it, but it's been seared into my memory.
I think a lot of the reason why it feels like there's fewer really amazing shows these days is because at this point we've seen so many and varied shows that a lot of the newer stuff just feels like things we've seen before. I know I think that way at least, which is why there's this feeling of fresh air from AoT where I'm not really sure where we're heading at the moment. Though AoT also has a bit of the shock factor I think, where it throws something in our faces whenever we're starting to get comfortable with the way the plot is heading.
The surprises aren't necessarily required to enjoy a show though, I've enjoyed plenty of shows in the past years that I saw right from the start how it was going to end, but it was still an enjoyable ride. (¬‿¬)
So uh let's see, can't really think of anything off the top of my head that's S;G tier, but I mean there's a fair few quite enjoyable shows.
Mushoku Tensei comes to mind, it's nothing you haven't seen before if you've seen a couple isekais, but it's allegedly the LN series that popularised the isekai genre. I quite liked it anyway.
Tokyo Revengers is another that comes to mind, but I'm not exactly sure how I would categorise it. There's time travel involved though, and I found it pretty interesting. Kinda gave me S;G vibes at times, though mostly just from seeing the MC coming back to the future to find that oh duck, he dun goof'd. (¬‿¬)
Buuut yeah, growing older is probably also part of it. Interests do change over time, and as I said earlier already having seen more things it's harder to find something that can really wow you.
Yeah I finally went and counted episodes to figure out where the duck I was supposed to pick it up again. S2 was getting a bit boring, but S3 and S4 took a turn for the weird which I'm kinda liking actually.
Also the soundtrack. That shit's as good as ever (¬‿¬)
