I thought "thank you for letting me die as a human" was emotionally impactful enough..... and then they hit us with that after credits scene. I wanna cry man. That was the definition of bittersweet.

What a series of unfortunate events. The white jackets were basically the bad guys. Framing the Immortal Order to be even more evil than they are which is just false.
Then the white jackets formed a riot to charge into the immortal order building.

I feel so bad for Dr. Usami. He tried his absolute best to prolong his patient's disease but did not want to see her suffer any longer.
He wanted Maru to use his touch to put down his patient and end her suffering for good. At least she was able to see the sky for the last time and cherish her last moment with the doctor.
What hurts the most was that Dr. Usami shot himself at the rooftop. Basically passing away with his patient laying beside him.

Very gloomy episode.

This anime gives us good episodes week after week.

It is interesting to see how the "evil" order was nothing more than a guy helping in a semi-honest way, in the end the bad guys were the ones in white xd

We finally know that man-eaters exist thanks to a disease that turns people into them, but that doesn't explain the fish with human hands we saw earlier.

It seems that the part in which there is more lore is about to arrive, it will be interesting to see how they tell it.

goddamn... that was powerful. It was obvious the moment the girl died, Usami had no further reason to live. remarkably beautiful, poignant episode, and probably the best of the series.

I'm grateful for these episode discussion threads; without them, my two brain cells would not have pieced together the connections between, for example the ending sequence to this episode & the earlier events, or how anything in the facility is connected with the rest of the series.

between this and Oshi no Ko, it's been a sad fucking week for anime.
Even Jigokuraku is sad this week.  Best episode of that series too. (though the animation is a bit lacking compare to Heavenly delusion here.)

We've been thrown a lot of tear gas this week.

What a sad episode. Dr Usami really gave it all for the one he cared for, and when she left this world so did he. Mimihime not remembering why she was so happy is okay, it was a pretty bittersweet moment!

yup, I just finished Jigokuraku. I did not expect today to be so emotionally draining. Thankfully I still have Loving Yamada as a palette cleanser.

they do? so it proves my thoughts that Mimihime was the girl. I completely forgot about Shiro but he does  looks like Usami
Yeah, both Usami and Shiro share the same voice actors, have white hair, and like to tinker with stuff.

Now that I think about it even further, I'm 100% convinced its both Shiro and Mimihime in the future, which makes the kids' facility part of the anime most likely in the past (especially with the final scene after episode title drop where Mimihime most likely saw whats going to happen in the future in her dream, which is why she's happy)
Holy shit that makes so much sense. I never thought about the relation between the facility and the outside world. I thought both events happen at the same time

Many shows expect you to care about characters that appear for one or at most two episodes. If they want to do that, they should learn from this week's Tengoku Daimakyou episode about how it should be done. The drama from these two characters (Usami and her dying patient) was really intense despite their appearance only during a few episodes.

It's almost a confirmation that the event in isolated facility is from the past, the doctor and his special patient might be children from that facility. In the end, the girl from the facility that can see the future, dream about her death in the future, and she's happy because she won't die alone, the doctor, which is her friend, commit a suicide to die with her.

Dude that's a really interesting theory you have there. I haven't thought of that possibility, but it makes sense that the monsters which destroyed the world in the past originated in that facility.

Well anime-only people reaction don't seem to agree with your analysis, the emotion seem to go through allright.
Anime and manga writing is not the same. You can go back and forth easily in a manga, anime storytelling needs to be a bit more streamlined. As a manga reader, I think that the adaptation makes sense for an anime and was not bothered by it. This is what "adaptation" is about.

What a great episode that was, actually making me care about two characters merely introduced for this episode, it was really powerful until the end, might be my favourite episode of the anime with the pilot,

Didn't care much for the post credit scene tho, might lead to something interesting who knows.

This is a very inconsistant anime for me, i'd say i didn't like around half of the episodes but episodes like this week had are why i'm sticking around for sure.

The stone guy ... that almost felt like it was planned. It did not seem like the leader was day instantly? I guess the subordinate wanted to take control and used that to incite the other people and to take over control. Guy that threw the first stone must have been involved as well. Just very convenient that the guy that attacked back ... actually hit the leader.

But they will get punished by that monster still alive later. (Which we won't get to see snice the plot will focus on other stuff with the main duo moving to the next location.)

I cared more about the Doc and the girl than about a certain female side char in another anime this season (about Vikings). ;)
Shows how you still can include minor chars and make people char about them.

What an episode, both beautiful for how they managed to see her the sky one last time before dying but also extremely disturbing for the whole machine/blood environment and obviously that end with Usami killing himself with the corpse of the girl... damn. But then it means Mimihime we see at the end was indeed the one that died... things are starting to make more and more sense even though the two different timelines are still mysterious

I think you're greatly overestimating the interlligence of the audience watching this show. There is a staggering amount that have no idea why Mimihime was at the end of the episode lol. It was not obvious for a lot of people, don't worry.

Damn so it was a misunderstanding and Usami was actually trying to save that girl to no avail, to keep her as human. Usami looked so stoic all the time and when he cried because of the girl thanking him, I also cried. Maru helped her to die as human, but seeing Usami take his own life too made Maru think that he caused Usami to die too. I wonder what the girl in the end dreamed about?

Reality being most weekly average anime audience need everything spell out for them word to word with extremally long inner monologues and detail explanation of every scenario.
That's why Demon Slayer is so highly rated by the average Joes.

What a great tearjerker. This episode would have worked completely on its own as a problem-of-the-week thing - and it would have been great, like, going head to head with the very best stand-alone episodes of gems like Kino no Tabi levels of great. But the build-up to this episode adds so much more context ... and makes it even greaterer.

Also, the sheer irony of the white-coat idiots posing as pacifists, throwing the proverbial first stone, and than going on bloody rampage ...
(Yes, they were taken over by an ambitious megalomaniac and we were actually shown a more nuanced picture, but still, it was kind of funny, in a sickening way)

If I had to criticize one thing, the "heavy" music at minute 14-something was an immersion killer. The scene was already perfect and didn't need an acoustic cue card for the audience - but it sure as hell didn't deserve to be butchered with that comically cheesy emotional-response-goes-here generic stock-music piece of shit.

Another Depressing Episode this week after Oshi no Ko.
God damn it.

Wait a minute, that end credit scene might be a huge hint to the plot.
Pay attention to their eyes, that's the biggest hint.
I think that girl Hoshio is Mimihime and Doctor Usami must be Shiro.
Because as we know that Mimihime can see the future from her dream.

So it's almost a confirmation that event from the facility are from the past.

The episode wasn't perfect but it was almost good, I disliked the amount of focus and effort put in killing the sick girl to make us feel pain, like if somebody with a bit of reason will care about a 1 episode NPC, though combined with the suicide scene, it makes a decent after punch. Still makes me sad that I.G took this level of production for a so far mediocre show like this when there are better quality mangas out there that deserve an adaptation of this quality, just a waste of resources if you ask me. And yes, killing the NPC is a very cheap trick that works in sentimental weaklings, wannabe's and the pseudos, that's the same people who get struck by episodes from subpar shows like Mushishit, Natsume, Kino no Tabi (the worse one), SnL, etc... The specialists about this topic know what I'm talking about, that weird fixation of the wannabe's.

On the other hand, the show is getting more interesting and taking itself more seriously in the couple of last episodes, the plot is moving a bit more clearly and some important information has been confirmed, it doesn't feel anymore like your usual mediocre Girl's Last Tour and alike SoL, sadly I think we will back to the teenager melodrama of "Paradise" and thus the quality will drop, yet I really hope the show follows this path and matures into a more adult version of himself, anyways 7.1/10.

PD: The suicide scene was destroyed by Maru stupid whining, it was pathetic.

Even if the girl is Mimihime, there is not any emotional attachment yet, she is still a NPC.
