Uhhh, It looks visually stunning, BUT Why sending your grandson into the past AGAINST HER WILL without any direction whatsoever? (Whatever was written on that letter wasn't very specific)

I really hope they come up with whatever her Grandmother had in mind. Other than that I think its just okay.

Edit: Reading the sinopsis this might be Violet Evergarden all over again

yay so happy PA is back to doing what it does best guess it's been a while since their last show like this since their art work and visuals have always been top notch to point were you kinda expect it to look great just like koyani.

hella confused on the whole past part since it's 60 years but a grandmother look a like has shown up and shes looking for someone else

Beautiful episode! I really liked the ambient of this anime, really fantastic to watch, this animation/art is really great, wonderful, my eyes got fascinated!

I liked to meet Hitomi, she looks really sad cause she ins't able to see color! Other character were really well introduced, i am curious about everyone!

Last part were she was able to see world colors were really beautiful, fantastic and cute moment, i felt happy for her!

Sounds were really satisfying including ending song!

Really want to see more! Want to see more for sure!

I actually don't get what the story is about, beside the MC is from the future who back to the past by her grandma's spell.

But OMG that graphic and color, I can't even skip all of that for a second

To be honest I would have preferred if they spent a bit more screen time on the present time (or future) and not go suddenly oh this is the future and imma go send you back to the past k'bye.

Other done that the episode looks promising. And the visuals are top notch.

This is what i can say after watching this one- IMPRESSIVE!!!! FOR the whole episode today i am just focus on my laptop screen while watching this one (i dont even look at my phone while watching this one), i mean i like the idea of time travelling , plus it has some magic and its a drama (and perhaps) romance in the future... its not the typical combination of genre in a show thats why i am impressed with this one...

hitomi the main character time travelled from the future up to the year 2018 (where her grandparent is still a middle/ high school student thats why she have a hard time with the things in that era. then she met some people there including Shou. Hmmm... im interested of knowing why she has been transported to that year. hahaha...

Got to watch this one more... its interesting...

This is the kind of romantic atmosphere I like. Nice touch with the colour theme and its connection to the drawings.

Maybe because her grandmother already lived through this and the story was already set in her past while for granddaughter it was only about to happen. Why discuss anything if everything is the way it should be? Maybe she even wanted to explain something but knew that she didn't so she repeated her actions so not to cause a paradox.

Its still odd to me no matter how I look at it. Time will tell I guess. It wasn't a great start plot-wise for me, but since she didn't have many things on her timeline I guess she didn't lose anything at all. I'm up for the visual ride tho, it feels better to look at than Violet Evergarden massive spam of useless motion.

Long time no see, Kyari! <3

PA should really stick to the watery colourful prettiness, Tenrou's visuals, while flawless were just dull and boring. This style just suits them so much

Content-wise, uh, I dislike misunderstandings so I'd like it if they all get to know each other inside out as soon as possible. Knowing PA I'm not optimistic

I think I've warmed up to the MCs enough to watch through the show though. Not an ace premiere but a capable one

You always know what you're getting into when it comes to PA Works animation and music. Its a matter of can the story hold you. i am intrigued so far considering I thought the beginning of the anime was set in 1978 and not 2078...I thought technology seemed a little too advanced to be 78 after a minute lol

Another ReLIFE, but the tag Drama hits my face which is quite sad. It also has romance? Worth waiting for. I have a feeling that Aoi is Hitomi's grandfather because he, Hitomi and her grandmother are the MCs, but hopefully they didn't make it easy to predict like that. Have to say I like this anime because of Hitomi ./.

The visuals are absolutely amazing. I actually found myself paying more attention to the colors and animation than the subtitles once or twice.

Storywise, it seems quite interesting as well. Going all the way back to the current year that is 2018 made me realize that one day I will be an old granny and a lot of the technology that we have today will seem old school in 60 years. Though I kind of questioned as to why the granny would suddenly be like, "Oh hello granddaughter here let me take you back a few decades back without really explaining anything and obtaining your seal of approval. Okay? Okay!"

I wonder how band-aids will be like in 60 years

I have mixed feelings about this episode and the anime overall. The animation is amazing and the characters are tolerable but the whole thing about time travel can destroy the show if can't be used properly like Boku Dake ga Inai Machi did in 2016. Also, grandma sending her to the past just like that is weird...

Great animation as expected of P.A. Works.

The MC (Hitomi) kinda reminded me of Violet Evergarden somehow. :v
But Hitomi is just shy and Violet is a robot. XD

OK. So the Hitomi was from 2078+ since they mentioned 60 years after.
Grandma transporting her granddaughter 60 years ago to help her grow as a person.
Well, that was risky.

I like how Hitomi didn't know what a band aid is. :v
Jeez, so 60 years from now there will be no band aids.

The story was nothing extravagant but will more likely be about character interactions. Looking forward to see how this story goes.

Aren't most settings in anime?

I don't usually post on forums but when I do its because I am literally blow away by this anime.

This anime gave so much attention to detail, quality art, quality pacing, really nice angles that help each scene. The anime did not lack anything, everything was done very very well, I have high expectations, I haven't had this high an expectation since 2007 - 2008, since Clannad.

depends how you look at it, because in a reductionist stand point all settings are contrived. that's why there's detailed placed so that if feels more natural to the story, same with plot conveniences and devices. of course there's portal fantasy/isekai who's main point is having characters being forced into a new setting. so what's the point of this anime? what is so paramount that her grandmother had to send her back in time? because she was sad? because of she couldn't see color, and not even in a melancholic sense but see can't perceive color visually. because of her strained relationship with her mother and those around her? if that's the case why go back in time if in essence it's basically like running away, and not even on her own volition. it's even stated that she can't go back to her time unless that becomes a plot line down the road. there's more i would put, but this is the main gist of a really contrived setting sprouting an unnecessary amount of questions.

if you like the show that's fine, but nothing from this show stands out to me.

Yes, that is true, then everything is 'contrived' so to speak since every setting is purposefully added for entertainment, it is anime after all. That isn't really why I asked that question, it is more how well the anime pulls off settings, how believable, does it need to be believable, what genre is it etc. Basically, does it fit the genre, in this case it is fantasy and I don't see anything wrong with the setting of going back in time. Yes, so far they haven't explained why but currently there isn't much means. If you are referring to the grandmother talking to her, it does seem abrupt and so random, but maybe there is meaning in that. Eventually she may be able to talk to her, to ask why she did that (keep in mind this is a magical world so many things can be possible.) Also anime is for entertainment, the setting being contrived being bad or not is subjective. Are you saying an anime with a contrived setting is bad? Why does it not 'feel' contrived but 'is'. Plot convenience is a thing, with many isekai animes and whatnot, but something can't BE contrived since that is a objective statement which can only be really determined if there is 'convenience' and unexplained at the end of the season as what happened is now fact.

I can see you have many questions for this anime. Fear not, this is only episode one, you can guess what they story will reveal or entail but that is just pure speculation. There might be a way for her to talk to her grandmother again, maybe there is a magical device, this is a magical world after all. I'd say, wait till the anime finishes, if it doesn't answer your questions then you are right about that.

To sum up, do you think contrived animes are a bad element? I believe, personally, even if it is contrived, if it entertains you and has coherance and doesn't leave you with heaps of questions that trouble the viewer, its a good anime. But that is me personally. If you look at something like darling in the franxx, you end up asking so many questions and it does not answer it in the end, that is a bad example.

But to be honest, contrived aside, I personally wanted to comment on the:
1. Pacing
2. Art
3. Animation
4. Attention to detail (mob characters)

cutting it down to the more questioned prone ones.

i wouldn't say the anime as a whole is bad, but a contrived setting really hampers the show trying to make its world believable to the viewers.

because it's literally forced on the character

it can still be contrived even if it's part of the genres modus operandi and can be hand waved with stuff like magic which i'll get in to next.

so that's the thing about magic as it's the most susceptible to being an outright plot device. there's only so much magic hand wavy you can do without it feeling forced unless properly contextualized into the setting.

i think contrived elements are bad for works in general, or at least should not be that blatant. there a many ways to enjoy or entertain something, and i could look over contrivances sometimes if the show is campy enough but i still recognize it as contrived. as for darling in the franxxx example, ehh i felt like it really didn't prop up too many questions and even if it did that's would probably the least worst thing the show had done.

i guess for me the time travel element comes off as rather extraneous for a show about self-growth.
