I mean, after seeing yesterday's Blue Lock episode, I'm just grateful that, at the very least, this moves. Doesn't excuse whatever the hell is going on production wise in this show by all means though.

For now though, let's try to look past the animation, because it's time for easily the best arc in Uzumaki, the hospital arc. I mean, already off the bat even with the iffy visuals, this shit is still eerie as hell. These pregnant woman are legit just straight up KILLING the other patients... and just jeez.

And then we got poor Shuuichi over here... as if his dad succumbing to the "Uzumaki's" wasn't enough, now his mom is going through it as well, even worse than his dad I'd say. Even creepier than that, we got these NEWBORN babies not only talking, but GET THE UZUMAKI'S COMING OUT OF THEM???? Or as they call them, placentas... really no better, still just yuck.

Then we got Keiko over here trying to not only eat someone, BUT THIS BITCH ASS DOCTOR TRIED TO SACRIFICE KIRIE???? Thank FUCK it was the doctor that was eaten or whatever the hell was happening. Then shit just doesn't get any better back at home, I mean, I don't know what the FUCK was going on, but I can tell that it wasn't anything good, that's for sure.

Got the whole thing with the typhoon afterwards, just no downtime after whatever the hell was happening with Shuuichi and his parents, with the typhoon trying to consume Kirie...??? Or whatever the hell it did to that poor innocent woman that it mistook for Kirie. At this point, I don't even know what to make of the story. Whether this be pacing issues or the story is just formatted this way, but the story just isn't story-ing.

Just no downtime this episode though, because right after they "deal" with the typhoon, they really didn't they just ran away, I guess, they got the whole thing with the dead son and DUDE IN THE WALL THAT'S FUCKING CREEPING ON KIRIE??? This ain't Nozoki Ana my dude. Though, at least in that show it was a baddie on the other side of the wall, this though... just what the fuck man. The CGI on him just made it that much more scarier.

Story is all over the place, but at least the visuals looked better than whatever the hell last episode was.

Speaking of last, last episode next week already, and hopefully with the team from episode one coming back, it can save the blunder that was these two past episodes. But I feel like this show is already beyond saving...

@IzanaSolos i don't know, there's something wrong with these episodes. the direction is bad and all, but it feels really and i mean reeeally rushed.
thankfully the next episode is the last one, but it's honestly a shame...first episode was so good...

Damn things are going to hell fast and poor Kirie is the center of the spiral it seems. I mean if you’ve got literal typhoons forming just to try and suck you up you’re not just one of the “normal” residents.

Obviously people are gonna complain about quality now but I was too horrified by all the crazy shit happening back to back to nitpick.

Man, the scene transition sucks in this show and that ending scene was icing on the cake, so abrupt. I don't mind the fractured story telling compared to the manga, but this anime really needed more time to breathe, something like eight episodes maybe. You could still portray the rapid and concurrent descent into madness of the town and it's people, yet spread it out a tad more as to make it more foreboding.

The combination of the chapters of Shuichi's mother in the hospital and the mosquitoes was sensible and logical, after all both situations took place in the hospital. The only thing missing for me was the information that Shuichi's mother, after the damage to the cochlea in her ear, had problems with her vagus and therefore felt like the whole world was spinning, which drove her mad - in the manga this was clearly indicated and overtly stated. Her death was also very vaguely shown and passed unremarked. Similarly, in the manga, Shuichi was already getting crazy through grieving for his parents and spirals, which is why Kirie invited him for dinner with her family where they served him food on those cursed plates and why he reacted so strongly when he realised what he was eating from - again, this context was missing in the anime. Evidently, the anime creators misplaced their emphasis and looked to save money in the wrong places, cutting out important parts of the plot that rushes forward without any order or composition. One second Kirie's father's workshop is on fire, the next second they're sitting at a table as if nothing had happened, a hurricane comes along and sucks them in and throws them into a pond where they almost drown, and the next scene they're sitting at the table again as if none of this had happened, and so on. And then there's the "jack in the box" guy tacked on at the very end with no order or composition, they didn't even show how he gets out of the coffin, ugh. This is what happens when you try to cram 20 chapters into 4 episodes.

Much better production values than last episode which tbh should be the standard after 5 years in production.. but the pacing now is the issue, stuff feels like it’s happening way too fast. I know they only have 4 episodes, but no one told them to make this only 4 eps. It should’ve had more.

I felt like this was the hardest episode to watch, not because of the subpar animation at times, but because of how disturbing everything was at the hospital and then when they escaped and got to the old house.. the placenta mushrooms, the blood sucking, the old lady stabbing her ear.. then the worms or whatever the fuck those were sticking out of that dude oh my god man how does Ito Junji sleep at night after writing this stuff it’s so gross 😭. Just nuke the whole town man it’s no saving these mfs where is the JDSF lmao

Next week we’ll see how things end, hopefully they saved the best for last production wise but honestly. 1 great episode, 1 awful and 1 mediocre really is unacceptable for all the time this took to make. I think Ito and Miura are sadly just victims of their own talent and will never get the adaptations they deserve.

The panelling is good, so whenever there isn't much movement it's terrifying. However, when it moves it's bad enough to take you out of the immersion, such a shame what happened with the production there.

I'm an anime only and I liked this episode much more than the previous one. I guess it's not about the animation, but stories. The first episode was scary all the time, but in the second episode only stuff with snakes was unsettling. This time only the plotline with pottery was not impressive, therefore this episode was better for me.
Imagine normies saying: "Peaky Blinders is mid and overhyped. Just another typical crime drama show. Breaking Bad is much better lol.".

Well, this was certainly an episode.

It looked better than episode 2 and didn't have the super awkward running animations. But the facial animations still look very shit compared to episode 1. There is also no continuity with each shot when they change. It looks really weird. The horny monster at the end looked painfully bad in a bad way.

When episode 2 initially came out there were rumors that the 4th episode would go back to the animators of episode 1. But after more information was available it seems unlikely. It's so sad that episode 1 was such a masterpiece but for some reason, the producers didn't believe in the original director and significantly cut down on the budget and replaced him with someone who's literally blacklisted from the industry. It's very sad and disappointing.

However, even if it had good animation the awkward pacing would probably still exist. But it would've been more bearable. They should've just released one episode and delayed the rest until the producers got their shit together and hired another competent director.

Well it was a slight step up from the previous episode but that's not really saying much.

Animation issues aside, the episode still maintained the creepy factor pretty well. From the blood-sucking pregnant women to the typhoon that's targeting Kirie, there was a lot of shit going down in rapid succession. We still don't really know why all of this crazy stuff is happening to their town so I'm looking forward to how the next episode wraps all this up.

Better than episode 2? A little. But pacing got even worse. Episode 2 already felt pretty rushed, but this one you almost didn't had time to digest events that were happening. The last "story" barely felt it had a conclusion.

Episode 4 possibly returning to episode 1 quality won't save the series, but at least will make it walk away with some dignity. Even if the animation stays like this, I hope at least the pacing problem is fixed

This is so bad, wow! Aren't they embarrassed by releasing this?

It seems like they have just strung the climaxes of a few story arcs together back to back.

The story just goes "and then... and then... and then..." instead of "This happened, ... therefore, ... that's why, ...". The former is just really bad writing.

It only has four episodes, but I won't watch the fourth one of this shit show.

2/10

I'm going to start by saying a big reason I'm still watching is because of Shuuichi's mom... not in that way but because her freakouts are glorious, I sorta imagine myself in that verse as one of the docs or some, throwing a spiral mosquito coil in front of her as I indulge in her crescendic shrieks, lol depraved stuff I know.

I suppose its a bit too late for calling on somebody to check on Junji Itou, seriously there are flags everywhere to indicate that man might not be as sane as he puts out to be, shit so am I to an extent, hell I dub his work on "The Flowers of Evil" great, one of my all time favs even, I might genuinely need a brain transplant fr. Admittedly I'm not quite in the know when it comes to his other works, and I was none the wiser on Uzumaki's existence either, from what I can deduce so far, it comes across as more creepy than scary, creepy with a degree of disassociation from the word scary, which of course does nothing to ease my confliction with this disorganized adaptation, somebody mentioned that it has been in production for five years (insert a sarcastic no shit) honestly the jokes write themselves, but alas I would be doing myself a disservice if I don't point out some glaring issues here.

One of my biggest gripes is simply the varied mediocrity of the production quality on the eps, what's even more painful is the fact that its 4 eps total, bruh this ain't even a 12 ep production run, its 4 ffs, it goes without saying for a cramped adaptation like that they were inevitably going to skip content, so we can't even get one or the other, its crap production values plus cut content by the boatload, marvelous. This whole situation is not helped by the fact that Itou's works are notoriously difficult to adapt so the production team has a fall back right! Well to hell with that, we all saw Wistoria, a crap run of the mill power fantasy story adopted to perfection, it just goes to show what can be done if the bare minimum production values are met.

Junji Itou's works are somewhat niche in the broader animanga space, but Uzumaki even though I myself was not aware of it had built up quite the hype, following My Deer Friend Nokotan's disastrous flopping I'm starting to think maybe "hype" is the death of shows. Personally I would like hype to mean something in the way of inciting discourse, excitement and anticipation towards an upcoming piece of animanga media, and considering Uzumaki was in that privileged position however niche, the delivery is unacceptable. At one point during ep 2 I was convinced "cel animation" is making a comeback, in retrospect the thought might've been disrespect to the cult classics of a bygone era, in honesty ep 2 got so atrocious I could've produced it alone, overnight, as the blind half of a bedridden conjoined twin, with only 2 fingers in candlelight and it would've still turned out as a sack of shit but still better that what I was subjected to by Production I.G.

However convoluted the adaptation has been so far I'd still be watching the last ep with hopes of seeing Shuuichi's mom for the last frames she'd be in.

well the direction remains bad and the animation feels stiff ut I still enjoyed it. somehow the dsct that this is a horror anime kinda makes the bad direction appealing. it's chaotic, uneven....so it kind of blurs with the genre well. if this was a regular Shonen anime or so, then man, it would have been unbearable.

Animation while a bit more polished than what was presented in episode 2, still cannot compare to the opening scenes of the series/episode 1 and leaves a little bit more to be desired its overall aesthetics. Story wise, I would go as far as to say it was abysmal, pacing was horrendous, overall flow was very jarring. Censorship was to be expected with the mosquito storyline; however, I found it to be done with little care to the finer details, making the final changes to the source material feel like unfinished scenes rather than conscious choices made to censor some of the more 'nsfw' imagery.

Episode with problems in animation again. The movement and proportions are incorrect.
Regarding its development, it is not completely polished, there are sections that are missing or need explaining, in this third episode, the worst has been this point, the adaptation, bad.
For those who do not know Uzumaki, I hope it helps you to read the manga, because it has greater potential.
