"Stupid brother" is too lenient. Godai is just despicable here. His neighbors aren't much better. IIRC Yotsuya was shoplifting porno mags last episode. Come ON.

At least we get some positive foreshadowing. We'll likely discover that he passed the coming test in the next episode. Progress, I guess.

Am I regretting re-watching a 96 episode series? Nope, not at all.

Unfortunately my sentiments were more along this line...

However, one of the reviews here on MAL said that patience is key when watching this series, in addition to an appreciation for romance. I got the latter, but the former's running out for me and it's only the fourth episode... Hope I start liking this a whole lot more. Soon.

Well, I am enjoying this series so far but, man, it's hard not to cringe when watching Godai sometimes. I sympathize with the guy when he is the object of abuse of his fellow tenants (like them betting on how many exams he's going to fail) and think that his issues are just a result of his poor environment. And then I stop feeling as sorry for him when I see him act so pathetic and make an ass out of himself.

I don't get it. Exactly what about this show is supposed to be funny?

Do you not get human interaction?

Good episode, though I know 96 episodes will include a lot of ups and downs.
I want to see a more dramatic arc for Akemi, so she can get some character development and become more likable.

GOdai san do your best cliche :D

I liked this one better than the last ones, actually made me laugh a few times. But yeah, godai is hardly likable so far. Kyoko and her fat dog are still the only likeable characters

This episode was hilarious, I laughed out loud multiple times ! It was much better than the last one. I sense the very long misunderstanding plot coming but I don't care if it keeps being this funny.

These kinds of dubs are interesting. Something about them takes away from the immersion but is nonetheless intriguing and kind of preferable to listen to. Most of the time, I don’t hear character but actors/actresses reading from their scripts lmao. Some lines aren’t fed well, but some surprisingly are.

I just wanted to make a trivial observation and say that at 3:25, when he’s panting after retrieving the correct ticket, and says, “There, okay—uh, I’m all set now,” it sounds absolutely flawless. I could imagine that dialogue (in the way of the audio) coming out of an IRL friend’s mouth. Not to mention, no matter how unimmersive, Godai’s actor really does have that college kid voice.

I also enjoyed all the whimpering he did at 10:20.

I also like how the series almost entirely takes place within the property of the boarding house! At least this far into the show.

What a bad, bad timing to choose for beginning this series. Watching Kyoko inebriated was sad, the neighbors are all annoying just for the sake / fun of it (and it's something i already faced in real life when i was young, even if Godai isn't a saint and is probably way too obsessed with university) and if there are 92 more episodes of this over and over (even if i still give for granted he will finally pass one of those exams, but there won't be a scene where he shouts it out loud to the neighbors in revenge) seem a too large number. At least, Urusei Yatsura and Ranma 1/2 have enough supernatural elements that make the plot unpredictable enough. This, on the other hand...

Kyouko is a treasure to be protected at al cost! What an angel she is.
Also, I LOVE that ending song, that classic Japanese 80's love song with that animation fits it so well, gets me all classy~~

Definitly I m getting in the swing of things now, this is hilarious in the way very old anime here back in the day, but I hope eventually the joke of him failing exams is over with, since I want to see some progression for him.

Damn people are still going hard on this show, I’m not gonna act like Yuusaku is infallible or anything but once again, we are on episode 4 of a 96 episode series, expecting things to change rapidly is unrealistic lol.

And personally I thought this was a really good one, it is a shame to see Yuusaku fail so many college entrance exams but that was expected, although I thought he might at least pass one, this is making me wonder if Yuusaku will be a ronin for the entirety of the show, but hey at least he has the beautiful Kyoko in his corner, she kinda makes him go stupid but I can hardly blame him lol. And speaking of Kyoko, lots of good bits with her in this one thanks to Ichinose stirring the pot, even going as far as getting her drunk, that was funny, but what I thought was the most hilarious part of that bit was Yuusaku trying to keep in line with those other guys so he wouldn’t be seen, that was good shit lol.

And damn even Ichinose noticed the dump truck that Kyoko is packing, if Yuusaku is truly the end goal for her then he’s got something to look forward to, I mean he was starting at it in an earlier episode already lol. And I guess with this we finally have the first signs of romance in the air between Kyoko and Yuusaku, Ichinose was kinda pushing it on Kyoko, but for her to react the way she did there’s gotta be more going on, I’m looking forward to how things progress from here, it’s gonna be slow but I know what I signed up for with a longer anime lol.
