| Mysterious murders and deaths on the streets. Yikes, this anime just spreads despair like the plague. Up to Jinya to do the dirty work. Demons are the main suspected culprits so that's not surprising. Even though this episode's incidents were complex than the previous, it still follows the recurring trend here. Jinya is livnig up to his demon hunter title though. |

| God damn it, I feel so bad for that man and the way his wife met her end—it was so painful to hear all that. Guess the serial killer—or rather, the demon—will make his appearance in the next episode. |

| Another awesome episode. I ended up caving and ordering the first book because I love this world and story sm. Did not think this serial killer case would leave me crying, but here we are. When Mosuke described how his wife was kidnapped, raped and murdered and you could hear the pain in his voice.. I just lost it. Great job from his seiyuu man that hurt so much. He and Jinya really bonded over that shared feeling of loss. There’s so much pain in this world. I can only imagine how bad some of the later stories will get. It’s interesting how the demons of this world can’t lie, total contrast to something like Frieren where they constantly manipulate their way into positions of power to kill humans. Examples like Mosuke show there’s a few good ones even if they’re few and far between. You can tell it’s got Jinya conflicted about Suzune now After what we learned about how Jinya’s mom last week, I totally get why he wouldn’t blame his dad for hating Suzune as a kid lol. I was so worried that Ofuu was gonna end up being the serial killer since she was out at night, but looks like she’s normal?? I hope?? That convo at the end with she and Jinya was so sweet and a nice allegory for Mosuke masquerading as a human. The anticipation is killing me! Who’s the killer! |

Feels like it's too early to reminisce about the past episode wise, but it's a nice setup, seeing Jinya to be more trusting of other demons. |

| I'm really honest to God surprised with how consistently good this series has proven to be. I don't know exactly why it is the case, but I feel as if I haven't seen a series like this in a long time. At least among those newly released. As in, a (goes without saying, non-isekai) historical fantasy drama which actually takes itself deadly seriously and starring a traveling drifter with a multitude of unresolved and contradictory feelings about their past, future, duty, family, etc. And who is acting physically, traveling around from village to village taking odd jobs and fighting whenever the situation calls for it, besting small-time villains with brute strength or sword skills, while psychologically and emotionally being firmly planted in and incapable of overcoming the block or trauma placed on them in the past. Series like this, with a variety of settings as a backdrop, definitely used to be way more common. It's incredibly nostalgic in that way. |

| I’m loving the slow burn on this one, I thought we were in for another monster of the week but they actually didn’t find the slasher in this episode, and a lot of it was focused on developing these characters we just met, including Jinya himself, I really liked that. I was surprised how wholesome Mosuke turned out to be, he’s just a chill guy lol, he’s also a good showing of good demons existing in this world, I’m sure they’re very rare but it’s nice to meet one, the story with his wife was a damn sad one tho, I really hope he manages to get his revenge. And I really liked Ofuu and her dad too, Ofuu’s so sweet and had great moments with Jinya, their conversation about those cherry blossoms was beautiful, and like I saw someone else mention, it could be mirroring Mosuke’s situation which adds an extra layer to it, I also just love flowers and spring time so it appealed to me on that as well. Only thing I’m worried about is Ofuu somehow turning about to be the slasher, there’s no evidence supporting that but the fact they saw her outside at night right about talking about the slasher has me sus, I really hope I’m wrong tho and it’s just a red herring. And hey there’s the OP and ED visuals! They’re both very nice, they fit the great songs well. |
| I'm really liking the "layers" this anime has: The fact that Jinya now relates to his father's hate of Suzune for taking the women he loved away from him, but deep down, below his hatred, still being a good person, and that the whole situation also relates do Mosuke, a gentle demon who hates violence and yet is driven to kill to avenge his wife. Or that the flowers work as a metaphor for both Jinya and Mosuke. It would've been easy to just make a protagonist that kills all demons indiscriminately, but as stated at the end of the first episode: Jinya isn't a demon. I wonder how the story will handle when we get to the first years of the Meiji era, when katana began to be outlawed, or when we get to the Taisho and Showa eras. |

another great episode, the story is extremely enjoyable, the visuals were all the way consistent, same weird audio bugs in one part of the episode like the last one where the voices were not synchronized with their mouths

| Man thats underwhelming tbh, i mean the whole episodes feels like a cheap filler ep from bleach ... feels sorry for the show cause the first ep was nice. I hope I'm wrong, and it ends up surprising me in the upcoming episodes. |

After seeing the length of the First episode. I know it's going to be a marvelous anime but, still watching it makes me a little ambivalent.

| Neglected to include this part to my comment earlier, but also, it's interesting to get the popular street view of demons - At least if the perspective of the soba shop owner fellow is anything to go by, it seems like unless someone or their immediate family or others they know well enough had a personal encounter with demons, then they are largely not believed in and treated as something of a tall tale and mythological phenomenon. This attitude being reflected among regular people could be a sign of the creeping modernization in Japan: We're in the mid-1800s and only around 15 years from the beginning of the Meiji era. Superstition, considered primitive, backwards, and antiquated, is being delegitimized and driven into the shadows, no longer to be humored or considered among respectable people. It coincides with the slain female demon conspirator from the first episode (the one who enacted their master plan by manipulating Suzune) talking about the desperation on the part of the demons to put into motion their plan to create a catalyst for Suzune to rise or be born as the demonic god, as a bleak future and road to their extinction was foreseen in which demons would be displaced by manmade artificial light (referencing electricity and street lights, but could be seen as referring to technological progress as a whole broadly). And with the passing comments from the shop owner in this episode about American gunboat diplomacy forcing Japan's economic liberalization. The Japanese market would be plied open with this show of military force. The sakoku isolationist policy was to end a year after this episode takes place, in 1854. Just find it intriguing how the situation of the demons may be mirroring large-scale Japanese societal transformation. This is also very different to the way the demons are viewed among common folk in other series like, for example, Inuyasha. There the existence of demons/youkai is essentially never questioned and believed by everyone as much as in regular (non-human) animals - just treated as another part and force of nature. But that was taking place over 300 years earlier in the 1500s and we usually (I think always) only saw the perspective of villagers in the rural countryside and not in larger settlements to the extent they existed at the time (we weren't in cities like Kyoto with a population of over 100,000 in the 16th century). |

And then it clicks and I understand why such a radical movement of opposition was borne to fight back against this mentality and those who perpetuate it. It's kind of like the camps of the opposing superpowers and their blocs in the Cold War or the opposing geopolitical sides in today's world: Both/all sides are kind of garbage. I guess that's on humanity and its failure of imagination. |

Seeing that some demons can have good intentions is nice. Moreover, the fact that each one possesses different and interesting powers makes this universe even more intriguing. Although the third episode progressed slowly, the details presented managed to capture my interest. I still feel that there is a strong bond between Jinta and his sibling, and therefore I think that even if he were to confront him, he would not kill him. |

Unless you define something clearly slated as the overarching long-term end goal, the final confrontation and battle, as the only plot which exists or matters, in which case the "plot" obviously could have been done and contained to a movie length. The story is obviously about way more than that and includes the journey along the way. It's extremely early to tell and predict its ultimate trajectory or quality at only three episodes in (albeit with a double-length first episode), but at least at this point we so far have a nicely done anime which is exploring the main character's journey and its themes and isn't visibly rushing like mad, and people are already complaining. This mindset is why we have so many damn rushed anime series nowadays. |
