I kinda had the same question as Emi this episode too...about how long their quiet life can last.

Not going to lie, this was a bit of a boring episode. While I like the overall chemistry, plot was moving slow and seems like it's attempting to dive into the final episodes without too much development.

About time Emi remembered that woman from in the early episodes of this season.

Emilia's mother Lailah is on her way...and Maou wants is having an argument with Ashiya...to buy a TV???

Sure, the concept of TV is important to the Devil, but there's a lot of hidden fees, and it would be yet another massive spending if the limited budget is overspent. A good thing for Maou is that he anticipated this, and his rewards card is impertinent to that purchase in points. To Suzuno though, even if the events in Choshi made it clear that the Devil is pretty much well and alive, it isn't bad to live an alternate life in Japan, that's for sure.

Emi's close friend and colleague Rika who still wants to impress Ashiya, Emilia clearly has a grudge against her, but it was a surprise learning that she is going out with Ashiya to get intel, or rather insipidly have a date altogether. It's funny thinking that Maou's MgRonald's kids Happy Happiness Meal reference is akin to a Pokémon rip-off, and that's saying much.

Gabriel casually inviting himself to the Devil's apartment with Urushihara just lazing on the internet like a true first-class NEET, and "talk about important stuff" as much as their interactions in Ente Isla. And just as Emilia had danger signs about her mom apparently being in Japan, an outbreak of war brought from Ente Isla into Japan (as seen in Season 1's finale) would be a big problem.

Just as Kao imaginatively thinks of Rika and Ashiya together (with that roughness of a botched blushing face), Chiho getting blinded by a bright light into unconsciousness is definitely a bad omen, more than anything. Invasion from Ente Isla? I would like to think so.

And yeap, this is the episode that felt pretty much like the old days of yore. An entertaining episode nonetheless that's as close as it can get to Season 1's standards.

Well that was an abrupt way to end the episode.

We see Gabriel again and it seems he's still plotting somrthing. There's this issue of some "watcher" now. And Emi wants to find more Yesod shards and the woman from that day at the park could possibly be her mother.

Decent episode overall.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.
Feeling half happy, half sad.

It's quite surprising to see Gabriel just talk to them casual, he also mention someone is watching them. Maoh is so prepared for buying tv in the score with his point card.

Maou is extremely adamant about getting this TV. He doesn't want to fall behind even a step in the parent competition against Emi. Cannot let Alus Ramus like Momma apartment more than Daddy's. Simply must not transpire if Maou can stop it, leading Ashiya to get hostile over spending so much Money on a TV. Maou out thinking Ashiya and using those reward points he'd racked up made me laugh. Ashiya had no counter for Maou being able to use that increased amount of budget funds. Lots of funny moments like Emi freaking out over her friend being excited to see Ashiya. That made me laugh so much when Emi was freaking out over how she kept thinking about the two of them together. Its saddening, though I suppose she still can't trust him, that Suzuno thinks Maou would still go back to lead the demon army if they came to persuade him. We've seen how much Maou cares for Japan and now add Alus Ramus on top of that. I hope he can get a good TV.

They don't have a TV? I guess I never noticed.

This TV debate was probably the funniest thing to happen all season. Too bad it seems too little too late, we really needed more scenes like this throughout.

Other than that, nothing really happened again. I am disappointed we didn't see the TV shopping yet -- I guess they are building towards something for the finale though.

Is it just me or does the animation seem off?

Like, Kao’s cartoony facial expressions when she talking about love and what not, they all seem to have a messy poor quality to them. They didn’t really match what she was saying, or how she was saying it.

In the previous episodes too, I noticed it. There are certain moments that don’t feel “finished” and it feels weird? I don’t know how else to describe it.

The toughest arc yet, the buying a TV arc lol, so many choices and so many price tags, what will our heroes do, Maou’s plan was funny tho because of the points he saved up, Ashiya was soundly defeated. The fact Ashiya invited Suzuki too will make for some great moments.

I especially loved the conversation between Urushihara and Gabriel, I guess when you think about it the angels are NEETs lol, and I didn’t expect Gabriel to adapt to human life as well, he is fun tho so I’m glad he’s not really a villain for now. Also Chiho’s friend Kao is cute but she made a wicked face there at the end lol, looked like she was melting. And lastly all of Emi Yusa’s rage regarding Suzuki going with the lads to buy a TV was great as well lol.

Man the last few episodes having so low % of 5s, I'm amazed. I know this show has been so mediocre to watch but it hasn't sunk in when seeing the poll results how flat this actually is for everyone. Only a couple more episodes to go but damn, this show went from people begging for a season 2 for many years, to forgetting about its existence really soon and not caring while it's actually airing.

I wanted to see them argue over TV's at the store this ep lol.

Seems like they're building up to something this episode, with Emi going off to find the other shards, Emi's mom, and some odd cliffhanger with Chi at the end of the ep. I'm excited for some action.

Visuals aside, this season slaps. Comedy is better, SoL elements are more enjoyable, the plot slowly thickens, and every character has screentime (I'm extra happy to see Lucifer shine). Can't wait for the next episode and seasons!!!

After all this time, I don't blame Maou for wanting a T.V in the small apartment. Not seeing a T.V in there at all does look weird in this age, so I thoroughly enjoyed watching his debate with Ashiya on the pros and cons of getting a T.V at all. Maou being very smug after whipping out the points card and taking the morale high ground over Ashiya was pretty funny. =)

Same goes for Urushihara's NEET talk with Gabriel when he decided to pay a visit (along with raiding the fridge freezer for barley tea and an ice lolly. Their talk did bring up someone who might threaten the peace that everyone is having now, so I do see Gabriel playing an assisting role this time. Hopefully we'll see him again soon.

Another funny moment was with Emilia at work, where she couldn't stop thinking about how Rika hanging out with Ashiya to help with the T.V shopping, making her lose her rag every few seconds. Her boss letting her go home early was a blessing, so she put her extra time to good use with the yesod shard that she has on her.

Chiho's friend pulled off some wacky facial expressions when she envisioned Maou and Ashiya living together (definitely a yaoi fangirl), although it felt a bit ironic that Chiho lost consciousness when a bright light appeared on her own T.V at home. Along with Suzuno's thoughts of Maou and how she wants him to stay in Japan, as well as more dialogue into Emilia's talk with her friend about her mother, things are shaping up for an interesting last two episodes of this season. Considering how mixed this season has been with plenty of users here, I can only hope that the last two episodes can end on a good enough note.

Does Gabriel work at a manga café or library?

He doesn't know Maou's tressure and in this episode, Maou want's a television? Does the ending imply Chiho has a magic television?

Emeralda suspects Lailah is Emi's mother, and if she's alive, Emi has no reason to avenge (at least one) of her parents, her grudge against Maou is meaningless (especially if Lailah approves of Maou).

Lucifer and Gabriel talking so causualy... how weird.

And to think Alas Ramus' mother is Emi, but I guess it explain why she called her "mom" when she saw her first.

And I wonder what the thing with the TV though... Would they be able to properly finish it by two episodes...? Let's hope

Emi's reactions to that phone call with Rika were hilarious. And then her freakouts at work, poor her coworker xD. Coworker voiced by Aoi Koga btw.

Suzune also wanting a tv was cute.

I love how Gabriel just walks in, helps himself from the fridge and casually chats with Urushihara while the others are gone.

Urushihara's NEET pride is amazing haha.

What the hell with Chiho's fujoshi friend lmao.

The ending was weird.

I gotta give this show credit where credit is due: the main story is finally moving forward. Too bad it took this show 5 episodes, 5, to finally move the main story forward.

The problem with The Devil is a Part-Timer is that it wants to have its cake and eat it, too. It wants to tell the story of Maou and Emilia trying to adapt to life in modern Japan, and at the same time, it wants to tell the story of the aftermath of the war in Ente Isla. It could have devoted some time to do the latter but it spent a disproportionate amount of time doing the former.

I'm sorry but this storyline reached its natural conclusion all the way back in season 1. Maou and Emilia have become comfortable in their lives in Japan. Too comfortable, in fact, to the point that their only real challenges come from Ente Isla. The show still wants to have comedic moments about everyday life in modern Japan when it has already asked questions about Ente Isla, like the identity of Emilia's mother, the status of Maou's army and the quest for the fragments of Yesod. Once those questions have been asked, there is no way they can't be "un-asked".

This show can't just go back to the same kind of lighthearted storytelling it has been using since day 1. It needs to continuously expand and explore the universe it has created but it refuses to do that. This show has become safe, unambitious and downright afraid to take risks with its story and its characters.
