Sure it's hard to be a Chinese migrant in Japan and it's sad to see that they have to work that hard because of poverty, well now I guess that Makoto has a new little sister lol her mom is so kind to adopt that Chinese migrant girl to save her, heartwarming ending for this episode.

A lesson is knowing how good you have it compared to others. In knowing that with all our personal mundane problems and annoyances there's those out there whom are truly having it rougher than we could ever imagine. This episode is more a lesson in empathy aimed towards it's initially intended Japanese audience but I think us stateside can still take away the same lesson just in a different context perhaps. Makoto seems to be mister fix it around Ikebukuro, everyone goes to him to solve their big problems. His neutral status among the power structure helps makes him approachable I suppose.

Dealing with Chinese and Japanese relations this time around. I honestly don't know much about how Chinese immigrant workers come over to Japan and how they are forced to work low need jobs simply for being foreigners but this episode makes it seem pretty rough. It doesn't seem too far off from hoe immigrants are treated in our country. Lin being one himself here makes the connection easier to see. He wants to help Gou since not only does her disappearance hurt the other trainees but also his own experiences with the poverty that Gou has also faced.

The end was very sweet with Makoto mom adopting Gou that way she can still work to help her father back home while also not having to basically slave away in a horrible factory job for years. Good to see the Red Angels however briefly. I'm glad that Makoto could gain some perspective from this case.

Foreigners in Japan, and the same circumstances of immigrants working in a foreign land, until the law catches up with them and get deported for reasons. Not to mention that the differences and issues between China and Japan are prevalent in today's society.

Just like Episode 1, back to the same backing strategy of a farce of organizations supporting illegal companies and their business. And Makoto once again is the middleman between G-Boys and this Donglong company, that for once like Takashi, he can't have complete control over even if he understood the case of China's poverty over Japan's wealth.

It's not hard to see how Chinese immigrants have scrapped their jobs to acquire jobs that rake in quick money, even at the expense of their own bodies a.k.a Japan's flourishing sex industry. The thought process of the Chinese and Japanese are different.

Is it good that this episode was a break from all the action, because it is. Even some G-Boys are immigrants so they know how hard life is before they stepped in Japan, and Makoto served as his client's tour guide for the sister.

All's well that ends well for Makoto's mother to adopt her for a sister to save her status. Be good that you're blessed, Makoto.

I can't see the direction this anime is trying to take, it's all over the place.

this episode was pretty funny, some guy walks up to you and randomly requests you to find a girl but then one week later you end up with a step sister

It's kinda interesting the show continues to explore the cultural standard and social elements of their society. At least that's what got me interested into this episode.

I'm not surprised that in some way or another, Makoto gets involved into another case.

Now its a foreigner issue, eh? Its not much involved a heavy conflict, need only a little troublesome with that chinese couple which was always involve Makoto around the trouble center. But, for a surprise, his contribution kinda lesser than before. Because he just needed to persuade the girl to obey the protocol. Yes, its pretty much just Lin's scheme behind the screen to made the girl stayed long in the town. What a dedicated person, as an advisor he sure did an amazing job to took care of the girl problem. And yeah, as the result, those girl received a nice welcome adoption status as a Makoto's sister for her solid decision to work at Japan. Easy peasy resolved without needed any more conflict, and heavy drama. Its pretty much Lin path behind the screen to led the succession of the girl problem, while Makoto, instead, had a nice walk with the chinese girl alone. Lol. He pretty much get blessed.

An okay episodic episode again, as always.

I kinda expect if this anime will be either pro-immigrant or anti-immigrant, but in the end I can't reach the conclusion. Makoto's mother, for example, hate Chinese as a whole but love as individual. But I kinda get the feeling that it portrays Japan as a savior to China's poverty though.

Lin is quite interesting, I think he's in very high position of an organization, he can tell China's gang to pressure its Japanese branch, I bet he's the successor of China's gang that just come to Japan to check on how its Japanese branch is doing.

I saw someone say that each episode is like a PSA and that's pretty accurate. 5 episodes in and all we've gotten is episodic PSAs and no violence, Makoto losing a loved one or gang wars like the synopsis said it would have. Literally episodes 1 and 3 can be summed up as "Weed is bad" and "YouTube clout is bad."

I get where episode 5 was trying to go with immigration but the show's pacing and delivery makes it dull. I just wish the show would start becoming more linear and not episodic.

What a cruel world we live in. Poverty is really a hindrance to success. Gou certainly have her own dreams but she had to give up those dreams to support her entire family. What Makoto's mom did is a very nice act, adopting someone you just met is a really hard decision to come up with.

Lin-chan surely knows some tricks, fighting skills and persuasive abilities are both good.

BE KIND TO ONE ANOTHER.

I was bored throughout the episode and thought it was 3/5 at best but the ending warmed my heart so much that I gave it a 5/5. Guo is such a sweet girl, and I'm sure she'll be an amazing little sister to Makoto. I hope she saves her father too.

But seriously, the best OP of the season belongs to this anime. (followed by Jujutsu Kaisen and ToniKawa)

That Lin dude's got some skillz. Makoto's mother was MVP in this episode, she even had to insist so Makoto would be a good boi and help Lin out. Then Gou is miraculously found and all ends well. At first I thought they were going to talk about marriage but instead Makoto ended up with a step sister. Can you even adopt people out of the blue like that? Oh well, at least they're not related by blood, AM I RIGHT GUYZ

Still Episodic I see.. Honestly when is this synopsis gonna happen.

Overall a good episode, the ending was really sweet and heartwarming with Makoto's mum taking in the girl Gou to become a japanese citizen. She's cute and a hard working girl for a great cause. Atleast we gonna see more of her now I hope, sometimes I think this show really lacks the girls!

Damn I liked this episode. When Chinatown popped up in this episode, I was thinking "oh no no issa ban time". But hey the issue this time was actually heartbreaking. Guo travelled to Japan to earn some money for his father's sickness. Yet after years of hardwork and learning Japanese, she still gets nowhere until Makoto and Lin helped her troubles.

The ending scene reminds me of Erased where the mother treated Kayo for her first delicious breakfast. In IWGP's case, Guo is adopted by Makoto's mother to make her a Japanese citizen, and that was a fulfilling scene for me. Best episode so far of the series, and even if it's episodic I'm sure IWGP will find its rhythm in the latter half. Makoto now has an imouto, and now I'm getting some cultured anime flashbacks.

I'm honestly getting used to this shows episodic nature, though a linear story is still welcomed. It's cool how this show is tackling different types of societal issues, though execution could be better I think it's still good.

I really liked the ending scene, I did not expect that at all. Nice, now Makoto has a sister. I liked Guo, so if that means she's gonna appear again later on, let's thank Makoto's mother. Lin was also pretty cool with them Kung Fu and shit.

The mystery just revealing itself. It just mind boggling how anti-climatic the episode was resolved.Unless Lin and Gou had importance for future event, I feel like watching a wasteful filler. There's nothing engaging in this anime.

Decent episode, and it's nice that Guo will now be adopted into Makoto's family, but I do wonder if this show will, at some point, develop an overarching story.

Not gonna lie, for a moment I thought Lin would marry Guo for her to get the citizenship. Well, guess he was smarter and let Makoto's family take care of her situation instead lol.

Now jokes aside, interesting approach this episode took regarding those who risk their integrity and work in questionable places without papers due to extreme poverty. Overall, decent episode but the execution could have been better in my opinion.

By the way, it's curious how Makoto's mother hates Chinese people as group but loves them individually...

I have to acknowledge it touches difficult social issues. I still don't like the by tendency jingoist and pro-organized crime messages this show sends. The last two episodes made partially up for the completely botched start (as in 1/10) the show had. They prevented the drop I was still planning after the 3 episode test, but the show is still sub-par (as in 3/10).

This episode was bearable. The black-white thinking is still strong in this one, the solution of the problem by Japanese generosity was cheesy. The story was interesting enough to hook me for 24 mins. Unfortunately I pretty much hate every recurring character. The Chinese guys were stereotypical (yea, I can do Kung-Fu) (yea, my dad is a poor farmer and Japan is so generous) and almost submissive. Actual Chinese I know tend spit on the graves of Japanese "WW2 heroes" a little bit more. That degree of "yes master, ling ling loves Japanese people" is not credible.

A very mixed blessing of an episode. If only the be anger-tained by patriotic nonsense and "just" mobsters who have a good heart. Not as good as the last episode, but better than the first 3.

The episode wasn't saying that there are many Chinese people who feel the way Lin or Guo do about Japan. I don't know about Henan or the economy there, but if what Lin said about the situation there is true, then it makes sense why from his and Guo's point of view, Japan saved them. I remember meeting a Chinese girl during uni orientation who actually said the same thing about where she came from. She said she hated the Chinese government and that she and her father worked hard to send her to college in the states because they were so poor and that the government didn't care about them.

I don't think this episode was trying to portray or give limelight to "Japanese generosity." It just so happens that the anime is set in Japan, and that there are foreigners (in this case, the Chinese) going to Japan in order to work and earn money. It's the equivalent of immigrants (from all over the world) going to the U.S. in hopes of earning more money and sending money back to their family in their home country. Not only the U.S., but places even as small as Taiwan get a lot of people from Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines working in factories or as nannies.

For the last half hour I felt I was watching an episode of La Rosa de Guadalupe (a soap opera of my third-world country, if you don't know what it is then lucky you). I feel like nothing happened and at the end this girl practically got a Japanese residency, how convenient! That's it, I'm dropping this.

such a waste that it's episodic and so preachy when the characters are all pretty interesting. hope to have more focus on makoto & takashi. i mean, it's got a good setting, interesting characters, but this episodic nature is making it hard to care.

This episode told a story between Chinese migrants and Japanese locals.A little weird because it seemed like Japan is the saviour of the poor in China.I don't believe on the Earth there is a country which doen't have poor people and "the hellish poverty in China" made me uncomfortable. It's not real,in fact. It's true that there's a huge gap between the rich and the poor in China but we have been making much effort to deal with this phenomenon. There are always conflict between the thought process of China and Japan. Each time China appeared in a Japanese anime there will be usually an upsurge of discussion on Chinese Internet.(This episode is no exception.)Some people hold an opinion that it's a insult to China while the others thought we shouldn't be that sensitive.Actually most of time I belong to the second one.In the meanwhile I think I should say something to avoid others to have a misunderstanding of China so I wrote down these words.

OK let's come back to the episode itself. After ep4 I had much confidence about IWGP because I think it has the capacity to tell stories perfectly but this one...Uhh I should say it has the same defect as ep1-3.Some important plots we viewers want to see has been skipped quickly by the character's words. It drove me annoyed.I like the new character Lin because he is wise, brave, and kind.(Do foreigners think all Chinese have a good command of kung fu? ?)Finally Guo has been Makoto's stepsister brought me happiness and it's a warm end.Best wishes to this warm family.

I thought they would take a different direction with naturalizing Gou, she's 19 and Makoto is between 18 and 25..
And she's cute.

I liked that Makoto took her to the rival gang on the tour, shows that they really aren't antagonistic

I had a bad feeling for Gou, and based on what I can find, it sadly has ground

It sure is interesting to see that IWGP has started to tell us some emotional stories. It was also cool to see the Chinese involved. The situation of the Chinese workers was hard to bear. In the end, Makoto now has a sister, and the 250 other workers are also not harmed. IWGP brings out some good solutions to the problems shown and I really like that. You have to pay attention the whole time to understand though.
