| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Damn, Ryo is cold blooded. I figured they were going to clash in some way since they spent the first few minutes of the episode building up their friendship. I'm kind of sad they killed off the sleazy photographer. He was a terrible guy but they haven't completely introduced many other characters besides him. |

| This is so fucking awesome!!! The modern take on it is fascinating. I love how Akira kept on searching himself on Google to see if his info got leaked yet. Yuasa's doing a modern take on Devilman with full potential. Akira and Ryo's relationship is way more dynamic and miles better than the manga. Honestly, the manga's main problem was its lack of character development for everyone besides Akira. So it's nice to see some focus on other characters, like Mikiko, Miki, and most importantly, Ryo. 5/5 |

| I had no idea where the episode was going until the water demon leaked out. I wasn't sure what they were trying to do until Miki took a bath. 3/5 So, that's why Miki's replacement was made a model? So, basically... the recipe at work here is: - the events of the manga, - playing out in entirely different conditions, for different reasons, - characters who bear no resemblance with the models (I might exaggerate a bit) whose place they stole , be it physically or mentally, - a certain visual style not that pleasant on humans, - the same style that works on gruesome things (though lessening their gruesomeness) - a good scene composition making up for Nagai's sometimes good layout, - no angsty music by Kawai Kenji but social rap. @rvbrick Should I worry about the end? Stop watching and first read the whole manga? (paused aftt tome 3) Or watch it fully before I continue reading? (I already regret having watched the Tanjô-hen) @Danae More like the double of chapters. Andusually, 10 25mn episodes make for less story time than five volumes of comic. |

| Shit bro it only took one fucking episode from me saying Miki was going to get devilized for it to actually happen, luckily she was still alive, but I can see her death in maybe episode 7 or 8 sparking Akira to go fucking crazy as Devilman and just literally destroy everything. Also I like Ryo, not a lot of anime characters that are painted as somewhat good guys would kill people that effortlessly especially the journalist guy who he killed without even blinking an eye |

| I never thought I'd say this about an anime: the rap interludes are good! Those dudes can flow. That videographer was garbage even before he became a demon, so good riddance to him. Hoping Ryou cuts Akira some slack in the next episode. 5/5 |

| I love the rappers in this series for some reason. They add a sort of Tokyo Tribe-ish feel to this series. The OST is fucking awesome! Ryo is showing how much an asshole he is to Akira. He hugs Akira like he's his possession. I love gay buttsecks but I don't ship them. Ryo better redeem himself soon. |

Abajur said: Its flat and lacks life. It has almost not detail, except in fight scenes. Almost all movement looks awkward and under-animated (it looks like they just did a simple transformation in flash), again, except in fight scenes. Backgrounds are garbage, no detail, almost all of them are gray and use horrible gradients. I like the simple colour palate. I feel it adds to the otherworldly elemt of this show. I find nothing wrong with their movements particulary for the devilmen because it makes them seem more animalistic. |
| Akira was being even more of Peter Parker in Spiderman 3, being all weird with the girl at the shop. That camera guy was an asshole. I still don't like how Ryo is a cold-blooded killer though. The end of this was interesting, with the sudden near-clash, and Devilman sucking the demon out and boiling it was kind of cool. |
I always call it the , the stare that tells the audience that they're looking straight through them, that they're nothing but an obstacle or a tool to get to where they need to be. But with Devilman being such an influence to everything that came after it, if this stare was taken from the manga then it's definitely the Ryo stare! Moreover, I always call this character dynamic the Griffith and Guts, like the relationship of Harry and Brandon in Gungrave. But again, if this relationship is well depicted from the manga, it's not the Griffith and Guts, it's the Akira and Ryo! One white, one black, one leader, one sword(figuratively speaking), themes of possession, one charismatic, one beastly, intersecting ambitions yet mutual care for the other causing both to be linked by fate. Loved how Akira took off his shoes and apologized when they charged into Nagasaki's mom's place, as well as how he smiled when he saw Ryo pay her for the damages. With Ryo's watering eyes in the scene where Akira pushed him into the pool, I wonder if he realized he was feeling down and that's why he tried changing the mood. One way window in the bath made me feel gross. I'm glad Nagasaki is dead honestly. There was a cool detail where devil who Ryo sniped had a horned shadow before he even transformed which we could see as he was walking up the stairs. The way Akira sucked out Gelmer with a kiss as he knew what was going on and burned him while exclaiming his name shows that Akira definitely has Amon's memories or knowledge to some degree. This more so with scenes like the one where he was buying food already showing he's more devil-like than last episode. This is interesting. The scene also showed that devils are very capable of begging for forgiveness. The entire last scene was filled to the brim with non-stop intensity, Devilman: Crybaby knows how to make set pieces. "The only fool here is you, you didn't realize you jumped into hell itself!" |

I thought that Akira would turn mad after becoming the Devilman himself, but it seems that he's keeping his humanity fine. And he's still the same crybaby! |

| I don't understand how that cellphone thing worked. I'm assuming he hacked into their cell phones, but there wasn't a call going on right? So did he hack into their cell phones and then just made the phone automatically record? I know he's rich and also a scientific person but that honestly sounds really complicated. I guess maybe it's just an anime thing we need to except? I kind of think the ultimatum of "you either both die or you live with me" doesn't make that much sense. With the way the story is being set up, it seems like even if Ryou killed Akira's friend Akira wouldn't kill Ryou. He's just too loyal to him and they're practically like brothers. So I don't get that ultimatum, unless it's being implied he'd have to kill Devilman out of self defense, there's no reason to kill both Akira and his friend. Edit: Nevermind. After Episode 4 I feel that some of this was cleared up, either by showing the tone of Ryo's hacking abilities or by clearing up Ryo's thinking with the ultimatum. |

| It was pretty dumb of Miki to run to Sleazebag HQ while being fully aware that it's going to rain then fully stripping to use the bath there. She got voyeured and ended up running naked on the rooftops all over town as a result but if she didn't get possessed by that water demon, Ryo would've gunned her down immediately because she would've been conscious for the whole scene. For someone who's fine recording pictures of his Devil friend, he's a very secretive person to the point of wiping out anyone who might have the slightest clue on who the Devilman is. His attempts to do so were in vain because the demons ended up finding out about it anyway. It really sucks for Nagasaki's nosy mom to blow up the moment she logged into his porno-filled PC. |

| I guess this was the big turning point of the series, I can imagine Ryo making a deal with the devil and turning into a devilman himself in order to have a chance of fighting Akira. I seriously dig the music in this show, anything from the background soundtracks to the mouthful rapping, it just works so well with the theme portrayed and suits the animation and art style greatly. What's up with those girls anyway? What got them started on this medium to begin with? The fast runner girl looks like she's in a wealthy family, Nah, both of them do, and yet, they got themselves involved in shady business like that? I only though people from poor backgrounds sublime to stepping that low due to their unfortunate social stands. |

| I've no idea wether my expectations are just downright at the bottom after that abysmal first episode, but the show definitely seems better three episodes in. There are still some annoying gimmicks here and there (the forced rap, weird animations, cringey killing scenes and some more), but it's better. |
