----------------------------------------
NEW opening animation + female version of the original OP

Finally, things are moving in this episode.

It starts off with Kirik/Kilik killing the pawns that is no longer useful to him using poisoned wine. It turns out that this dangerous poison specialist/assassin is to become an instructor in Erin's school D:

And he gives out candies to the students...This is starting to get fishy....

But it seems that he poisoned and killed his foster (?) parents because his sister was forced to drink poison....and wasn't able to achieve freedom...

And Lilan learned to fly!!! Beautiful scene!!

But it seems Kirik can see his sister is Erin, and the freedom that his sister wasn't able to achieve....So we don't know whether he is a foe or an ally...

The new ED was an insert song played before....

Next episode... historical revelations to Erin by the Mist Tribe! This is getting really good after a recap episode...
bla bla bla

Wow.
It's amazing how much the tone and cinematography grew in just one episode.
I almost feel like I'm watching a different show. The way Erin stopped in front of Tomura in the hallway was a side of her we hadn't seen since she was in her home village. She had a really wonderful look in her eyes throughout this episode.

The flying on Lilian with the wind through her hair was magical. It was almost as though they were saving the budget just for that moment. I loved it.

Though I will say that the introduction of Kilik was very awkward. For a while I thought that it was Shunan turned evil, so I was second guessing a lot of my thoughts on him for a while, and then when no one seemed to recognize him, I just settled on his being a new character. I don't like him, and I hope that he doesn't end up on Erin's side because the way that he had been shot the entirety of the episode just screams "don't trust him." I don't like his shifty eyes, his face, they way he talks to everyone, or the candy. I was sure it was poison.

I pray she doesn't leave the school with him.

Very good episode overall...this really might be the best show of the year.

This episode was impressive. It just had so many things worthy of praise.

Admittedly I somehow don't like the singing voice in the OP, but it does provide a more grownup feeling to the whole show which is certainly fitting.
The ED was such a relaxing song and I fell in love with it.

In this episode the plot progressed further than I had expected, which just means there was even more to enjoy. Erin and Lilan flying was just beautiful. And as a more lively and grownup person, Erin is also so much more enjoyable.

My thoughts too.

I thought the candy was poison too. Though, I think that scene with the candy and such was an attempt to arouse further suspicion surrounding Kilik, and leaving the viewer guessing as to his intentions.

Anyway, can't wait for more now. New episode reveals new scenery, new people, and some questions that need answering!

Exactly. Best episode I've seen this summer, that made me forgive the "more-than-usual" amount of recaps. The scene with the flying Lilan was incredible, maybe even better than the scene with the Beast-Lord destroying three Toudas to protect its child. Can't wait for the next ep now, and it seems great, judging from the preview.

her flight was attained a bit too easily though. or maybe she just needed the right kind of push to get her in the air.

now she has upped the anti.

Amazing episode. Sure, the new teacher might actually poisoning everyone slowly by giving them candy, but the one who stole the show was ofcourse Lilan. Tomura came at the right time to 'save' Erin. Ready, take-off! The moment before that it was definitely easy to tell that both of them felt helpless, not knowing what to do. Looks like we'll finally know what the 'crime' is, looking at the next episode preview.

I have to disagree with you on them spending much time on the flying part. The graphics took a dive on that part and it's noticeable when the cliff falls apart and Erin jumps. The momentum of the story made up for it greatly though.

Ya I was thinking the same thing about the candy being poison. I think Erin was too. I wouldn't put it past him to poison the kids later on and Erin saving them or something. Like I mentioned before I think this ark will focus on Erin being forced to leave with Lilan.

One of the best new anime this year ^^

When lilan flew, it was really beautiful
I really like the mature Erin

I also thought that it was poisoned candy until he gave it to the other kids; I think it'd be too obvious.
Although what he gave Mukku and Nukku.. that might have been a poison or drug of some sort.

Aoikishu, not one of the best anime in 2009 but THE BEST. Heck, I'm considering this anime to be the best I've ever watched!

As for the 31st episode, it was great. I liked almost everything in it. This Kirik is an interesting fellow. I'm glad we have another villain in the series. I didn't like that much the situation where Lilan flew, it was a bit too far-fetched. Also how Erin managed to catch up with Lilan is beyond me. Even if we take into account that Lilan's wings put up resistance and Erin was flying without air resistance (thanks to Lilan) it would still be hard to do. Oh, well, it wasn't that bad. They had to make Lilan fly somehow.
Regarding Kirik's candies, I think everyone is missing the point. I was sure that he wouldn't try to poison anyone yet. That would be stupid, he wouldn't learn about anything by doing so. Kirik is giving candies away to gain trust. In case he would need to poison someone in the future it wouldn't be strange that he would give him a candy because he always did that. He wasn't slowly poisoning nor he intended to poison anyone at this point.

1) I don't call anything the Best until it ends well :P, but ya, unless it ends horribly it's by far the best new one I've seen this year.

2) Good point! I knew he was trying to gain their trust, but I didn't think about that.

I agree but the fact remains he did that for the reasons I mentioned. He had established that he likes to reward his students in an extravagant way and as you can see most of the people were happy about it. If he suddenly wanted to give some food to someone (especially students) it would be very suspicious, in time everyone will probably be used to it and would take the candy or sth else without second thought.

It's clear that that was his motivation since the candy wasn't poisoned, but my question is why did he think that was the best way to gain their trust? And on top of that, when he was being extra close to Erin in the library, he was almost beside himself when he realized that his methods hadn't in fact worked. I think that he thinks he's not as transparent as he actually is.

To me, it didn't look like anyone besides the retard brothers were happy about the contents of that satchel. Erin, her friend, and the glasses guy all seemed weirded out by it

She fell in love with him, but when he handed her the candy she was like, "Huh? What is this? Candy? Whatever! *swoon*"

Glasses kid looked out of sorts to me and decided that smiling was the best way to accept it. He said thank you because that's just more indicative of how he is as a character, very polite and mindful of superiors.

First, I've been waiting for Lilan to fly for a while and I must say I was not disappointed by the way they did it, especially with Erin jumping after Lilan. I did not expect that, I figured they'd just show Lilan fall from view and then reappear flying. Erin jumping after her made the whole seen much better.

Second, I hate the way the singer in the OP modulates her voice. I simply cannot stand it.

why the kiriku guy wants to kill all wajyaku again? he is a saigamul, and iirc they were stated as people from grand duke's quarters who want to unite the both countries with GD as king. they are supposed to be wajyaku themselves. but this guy is a holon(may actually be an adopted wajyaku, which complicates things even more) and saigamul at the same time. there seems to be no mistaranslation either.

Actually I like the new song much more. The 'modulating' is 'folk' style of singing. If you havent heard folk songs before and/or you dont appreciate them, this will turn you off. As some ppl have put it...it sounds like a drunk is singing it. But its just a singing style which is completely different from mainstream nowadays.
"...our faces marked by toil, by deceptions, by success, by love; our weary eyes looking still, looking always, looking anxiously for something out of life, that while it is expected is already gone – has passed unseen, in a sigh, in a flash – together with the youth, with the strength, with the romance of illusions.” - Joseph Conrad ('Youth')

the same singer who sings the ED of BLOOD+, Hajime Chitose.

Here is the ED1 of BLOOD+:

Also the ED of Ayakashi Classic Japanese Horror:

The singing style is the Japanese Amami Island style. It's a folklore singing style with a distinct voice.

I'm still impressed by how well that song works in different situations. Fits in both a happy and wondrous moment, like this one, or in a slightly... less happy and wondrous moment, like when someone is getting eating alive by giant lizards.

I'm glad to know I'm not alone in mistaking Kilik for an evil Shunan at first. They look so similar, except that Shunan doesn't walk around with a creepy, fake grin on his face. I was a little surprised at the candy thing, and found it kind of absurd and stupid, too. Candy? To college students? To eighteen year-olds? Come on!

I hope this turns out to be right, because these were my thoughts when I saw him giving out candy. Still really weird though. Just because he's a teacher, doesn't mean he's someone the students know well (yet?), and seriously, didn't anyone ever teach them to "never take candy from strangers"? Seems that Jone/Joan at least taught Erin that. She seemed to be the only one who wasn't totally elated over the stupid candy.

This one was SO GOOD, there was so much going on this time! The new version of the OP was great, I was on the edge of my seat when it showed Erin flying on Lilan's back by the end of it!

We finally got to know the identity of the most important Saigamul till now, I mean, at least I believe he was the one that fought Ial that day when he was questioning Nukku, and the one that shot the arrow! To think that he's now a teacher at Kazalm! Kiriku approaching Erin is by far the most dangerous thing that has happened to her so far, I was shivering! He certainly seems to have a desolate past that made him what he is now, and I can't wait to find out the details about his circumstances, but honestly, he's unsettling, especially with his speciality being poison, seeing him handing out those sweets and candies was nerve-wracking, I kept thinking they were poisoned, and the way he went around asking about Erin too, unfortunately he learned a lot, but at least Esal realized it.

But time was also kind to Tomura, I'm never calling him bland again. lol It was easy to predict, but I'm glad he became a teacher, and is still at Kazalm, but as we learned thanks to him: Esal's protection reached its limits, and now people know about Erin, or at least that something special is going on there.

That scene between Kashugan and Yuuyan was also pretty cute and funny, but they didn't change much, did they? The others from their class all have the same air about them too, but that's fine I guess. The scene with Seimiya was nice too, even though there wasn't much apparent progress between her and Shunan, he's still sending her flowers just like four years ago, and Damiya is also still keeping her close, I don't know what he may be planning though.

AND!! THAT!!! LAST!!!! SCENE!!!! I knew Lilan's first flight was close after the way she watched the birds and the sky so wistfully, but I wasn't hoping to see her fly just yet! But as soon as Lilan started to run at that cliff, I knew it was going to happen! I mean, they still played a bit with my expectations, having that place where she fell at first and stuff, but when it broke down, and Erin just jumped without a second thought to help her, it was amazing, a few moments later she realized they were flying!!! They were seen by Kiriku, and for some reason he saw his sister in Erin, I wonder why, time will tell. But seriously, I was moved, it was greaaat!

And now Nason will be back, being finally forced to make contact with her, to tell us about the past. The mist folk may be the only ones with this knowledge or something, I can't wait! The new ED, with that song we already knew, was great too!
