Guys remember how Denji got manipulated by Makima. Remember how Denji became a simp and that ended badly for him? This is exactly why I see this part as horrendously written. It is part 1 but objectively worse. Characters? All of them are bad except Asa and she got sidelined… Story progress? It’s been 100 chapters and we progressed like 20 chapters in part 1… Character development? Gone, Denji regressed completely.

Remember guys, we need to feel sad for Denji as how we felt for him in part 1… Yeah Denji is dumb, and I wouldn’t care one bit what happens to him after what he did this chapter. The guy literally has zero development and still a simp.

@Confused_100 Regressed to what? It's not like Denji ever learned some big lesson. Part 1 ended with him ranting about wanting fame, money, and sex. His "superhero" phase was just him repeating the same pattern as the one with Makima: "I'm doing all these nice things for you. Now like me and have sex me." He's only recently become more self-aware about it, like when he said it'd be better if his dick was cut off.

He said his dick would be better cut off in part 1 also… He learned he shouldn’t be a simp and try to actually save people. That’s why he actually tried to stop Makima in the first place. He should have developed from that. But that development went down the drain and he regressed back to “Yeah I will do anything for you, if you will let me do it” again.

@Confused_100 He didn't have noble intentions for saving people though. He just wanted girls to like him and have sex with him, and he said as much. He knew that he was putting Nayuta in danger, and he still did it because of his selfish desires. He was a still a simp, just not yet for a specific person, but he was trying to attract a girl to simp for through his "heroics."

There’s a difference between doing it to attract women to you and just being manipulated on purpose to get a devil who is clearly acting like Makima…

A simp is someone who would do things without using their mind. But he should have developed to use his mind, otherwise he literally regressed back to before Makima showing him that she doesn’t care about him.

And that’s my problem with his character. He doesn’t feel developed anymore. He literally is as he was at the beginning of the series…

The story literally plays same beats of “feel sad for him as he was never felt liked before” but the problem here, are we gonna act like part 1 characters didn’t happen? His friends? What made it work before is that he really did have no one except a devil pet. Now it makes zero sense to care for what he feels, why? He keeps being an idiot and doesn’t learn. And when he learns, it’s like he had Alzheimer and just was cured to remember that “Oh yeah I had that”… The writing of his character in this part so far is the meaning of abysmal

And Denji got blue balled again, great... just great, but at this rate, I'm the one with the blue balls, my balls are even bluer than Denji's with so many teases and balls fondling in this manga.

After defeating the Death Devil she better do what she promised, but then again, it's Chainsaw Man, we all know it won't happen. And is Yoru really a female? because Asa is, but what about Yoru? it's a devil, is that devil originally a female? I'm asking the real questions here.

The people who said “lack media literacy”, atleast try to convey why the criticisms are wrong. You guys are literally acting like JJK stans when the last fight was going on lol.

Well don’t be annoyed when it gets worse in storytelling, just because you love everything thrown at you even if it’s badly written. Criticism is key to tell the mangaka fujimoto, that “Hey if you aren’t feeling what you are writing right now, either take a break or stop repeating the same story plots using remember berries, this isn’t a Disney product”.

Even for part two standards this was horrendous. Every chapter this dude Denji is becoming more and more comparable to Shinji, and I find it annoying a bit cause it’s become repetitive and it’s just the same Makima shit all over again. Though, it’s really been this way since the eternity devil really.

But hey, at least there’s a goal now… that’s… something.

Tbh, I don’t think it’s really so much an issue about “le symbolism/depth” as it is just seeing what feels like Deja vu in Part 1, so it’s understandable that there’ll be mixed reception. For me it’s just not as engaging as with Part 1, if I were to put it in more straightforward terms. Whether or not this current arc has inherently good quality or not or whether or not the reader understands what’s going on…that doesn’t matter as much as it technically should if said reader(s) can’t feel as invested.

I guess main difference from Makima is that I think Asa actually likes him. Hopefully she can get control of her body back soon.
I like part 1 better too, seeing denji cry like that breaks me.
Also still hoping for blood devil come back and seeing him talk about their promise fuels my hope.

Denji was never gonna mentally develop, that should've been obvious from part 1 and I hope you aren't reading this hoping Denji goes full Sung Jinwoo. That being said, I can't defend the direction this manga has gone in right now. Part 1 did an amazing job of being engaging while part 2 seems to have lost what made part 1 so good to begin with. I can't even really say why other than I really don't give a shit about any character anymore besides Denji and Asa. And even then haven't really given a shit about Asa in a long time since she lost all agency. I need a big payoff at the end, because I wouldn't give part 2 higher than a 5/10 right now.

I'm gonna reread all of part 2 before assessing whether the pacing is actually as terrible as it feels or if it's just the shortness of every chapter and the release schedule that's making this so nauseating to read. Part 1 wasn't well paced to begin with, so I don't have high hopes
