| The game is hilarious because of how horrible it is, it's one of those "Its so bad, its good" kinda thing. But now that they are adapting it into an anime, Idk I have very low expectations of it. |

| I hope they make it a campfest by bringing the original english cast back and have the main character play arcade games for most of the show. I feel like it's gonna be average and forgettable otherwise. |

| It'll be a 6-7/10 really, something you'd only ever watch if you're a fan (yet people who aren't a fan will watch four episodes of it, give it a 4/10 and call it shit even though it was never something for them) and it'll be enjoyable for fans for sure. Kinda like the Ace Attorney anime, I enjoyed it even though it's pretty average since I'm a big fan of the AA games but outside of that I couldn't see someone enjoying it without having played the games first. Overall, it'll be okay. If it actually turns out to be an 8/10 or something I'd be shocked. Although, I do wonder what it will show in 13 episodes. The entire 1st game which would fit nicely into 13 episodes so that's obvious, but it's a shame you won't see characters like Ren, Joy or Wong since they made 2 a bit more lively and would've added some fun interactions in this anime. Haha, maybe it'll happen in Season 2 bros, and then after Season 2 we'll get Season 3 and then we'll learn that |

| I definitely recommend playing the games to all after watch the anime, to me are ones of the best games of all times! Great in all: Story, music, playability, characters, graphics, setting, etc. |

| Not sure how some on here are talking about how bad the games are when they were nothing short of a masterpiece. The first one blew everyone's mind as much as MGS did. Almost all Shenmue fans are hyped for this, myself included. |

And it's a shame that people like that offer their two cents in something they know nothing of nor experienced fully firsthand but are more than happy to give it a bad rep. But whoever played it back in the day thought it was absolutely breathtaking; not to mention the awesome graphics on the Dreamcast that were near flawless. |
| I was cautious until today, but now that the incredible second trailer is out, I'm shamelessly hyping it up. The Shenmue series is my third favorite gaming franchise, right after NieR and Sonic. I grew up with these games and consider all 3 of them peak fiction and a must-play spiritual journey. So the fact that this show actually looks decent is essentially a dream come true. One thing that worries me a lot, though, is the fact that Dou Niu, Joy, and Ren are in the new key visual. I sincerely hope that they will only appear at the end of the season to hype up the second season, and that they won't try to cram both of the first two games in the same 13-episode season. That would be the worst-case scenario. btw, I wonder which highly respectable Internet creators/game critics all these users in the thread have heard that the games are trash from (#οΏ’_οΏ’)-c<TΠTοΌ DollFishu said: This, word for word. | I agree, games are masterpieces. I think pace will be fine and will keep things interesting in every moment. Anime and games are different mediums and by the trailers it will have some interesting changes and additions. |

It has a certain charm to it, but Japanese audio is a standard great work. The game itself is a masterpiece of it's time with memorable characters and great atmosphere. If it follows the game, and has a good direction, then I expect it to be a good mystery adventure with fighting involved. We don't have many hand to hand fighting anime without super powers so it's a welcome addition. |

| I'm expecting it to be pretty meh, I love the first 2 games for their atmosphere and detail, its not for everyone but I love slower paced games and I found those games, especially the 2nd, to be very immersive. But form a plot standpoint, they are VEEEERY bare bones, is a nice love letter to kung fu cinema in game form and there's a novelty to how it emulates the training of them like your playing through the first act of a kung fu film whilst being able to explore the environment around you. But taking that into another medium where the plot takes center stage its not gonna feel like anything special even with the best execution. It'l be something where fans will probably get a kick out of it but also think its worse than the games, and where people that dont like the games or wouldnt like the games wont get anything out of it. To be as harsh, I think this is gonna be a huge waste of money that will do nothing to undo the damaged brand's name from the 3rd game. |

| Zero expectations from me when adapting games and Crunchy making it, only makes it worse because they rush every adaptation... Never saw them adapt a game though |
| I didn't realize how long this was in the making seeing how old this post is from it originally being posted. The games themselves are okay. They're more cult classics for nostalgia purposes. I've played and beat all 3 shenmue games. They're slow and clunky but the story is pretty fun and they are one of those so good they are bad type of games. I just saw the first episode and the animation is definitely better than the games but I remember spending hours in the first game just getting around the town since some it was confusing. The anime certainly breezes through all that by the looks of it. Usually anime based of video games isn't as good imo though. So I have low expectations for this one. |
