I like how their giving us characterization and showing us the branch in Kyoto instead of skipping all this and just getting directly to the action. This is one of my favourite Arcs along with the Illuminati Arc and both have a good combination of action, comedy and drama in them.

The story is starting to get really intense now with everyone in the Kyoto branch knowing about Rin.
Aww ... seeing Kuro worry about Rin is just adorable. You meanie, Shura!

y'all can talk all you want about how the father/son arc is boring but it hit home for me and made me super sad?? but i do agree, there is way more drama than action so far and it bums me out, i like the level of emotion brought to the table, but it seems forced at times. also bummed that this season is only gonna be 12 episodes when season one was 26 episodes.

but you do gotta admit that mamushi is a bad ass character???? look at her face markings and that giant fucking snake???? i love her, antagonist or not

Intense and emotional episode. Rin can't really held back her feelings towards the conflict between Bon and his father. How it resembles with Rin' relationship with his father, telling Bon to not to do the same mistake he did. Already expected that Mamushi will play a big role with the story based the visual, though I'm surprised that she's the traitor and working with Todo, I'm not sure if she will be an enemy.

While the 1st season was interesting, this anime has become pure shit. When will MAL give me the option to rate something zero?

Yup same, would've done it to animes like pokemon for example. Those are terrible animes which deserves to be 0 right? Almost no char development, repetitive story, Ash always loses, yet some people gives it a 7 :/

The pacing is the problem here. No choice though IF the manga is only a bit ahead from the anime. Non manga reader here. Having to see Ao no Exorcist on the screen is still better than not seeing.

Man, the whole time I was like "Pls don't lose it, pls don't lose it, pls don- oh, he's lost it. Shit". And isolation, here we go.

I gotta admit though, I was surprised to see that no one there knew about the blue flames. Rin's true upbringing isn't exactly a secret anymore, you'd think at least the higher-ups would have known about him. But then again, if they knew, he probably would not be allowed there.

I would have preferred much more advancing the plot during the narration and not that there was focusing on the characters, at least for now, but also the growth of the characters has its own value, as per their interpersonal bonds. Atmosphere serious but fun, they met a whole. Shura is very funny in this episode.

This is one of the most fun scenes for me. XD
P.S. Thanks @Illyricus

My only critique of this adaptation is who it switched around some parts e.g. Izumo and Shiemi's talk in the manga actually took place while Rin was talking to Suguro's dad the first time and what cut it off was Mamushi and Juuzo bickering when they are first introduced. Izumo doesn't see Rin training on the roof like in the anime version. Also, some parts were cut out and while nothing that was cut out was really necessary, except maybe the part on the train where something else happened that foreshadows something later. But the cut off parts do provide more details. I understand that the anime format has a strict time frame for each episode though, but it's a shame the adaptation is giving a slightly trimmed down version.

I knew it, Mamushi was the traitor, it seemed obvious in the preview. Also she went back for the left eye first.

I feel sorry for Bon's dad. :( I feel like he's so misunderstood. He seems like a nice guy too.

I know that Bon is supposed to be the "cool" one and all but honestly, he's a total asshole right now. Fuck you, Bon.

Jiggle physics on Shura's tits. Oh my.

Ah, some good action :D Mamushi was the traitor indeed, and she got away with the Right Eye ... oh dear. Rin's finally getting control of his flames, and was that FukuJun as one of the judges in the flashback? :P The latter half was focused on Ryuji and his father and how Rin reacts to them ... oh boy. I can definitely see why everyone's acting like they are but IMO they made Rin a bit too forceful for me. He really doesn't know when not to butt into things -_-" I guess unfortunately for him he revealed his identity to everyone ... oh well at least Shura knows how to control him :P Hoping to finally see some more Yukio next episode too :D

Agree with @Tokoya that Suguro is being pretty blind here. He's just taking out all his pent up anger on his Dad at the wrong time. He should at least try to hear his Dad's side of the story before trying to cut all his ties with him.
Except that his dad doesn't want to share his side of the story. "Not even to my son."

It's as faithful as it gets. Yeah, the manga "rushes" the events compared to the anime, but that's simply because of the difference in mediums.

You're right, it's really as faithful as it gets and I think that's why it does seem so boring and overdramatic (at least to me).
The difference in mediums and pacing that you mentioned is crucial when it comes to good adaptations and I feel as though that transition from monthly manga chapters to weekly episodes just wasn't accounting enough for the different "speeds".

The little moments in which the anime decides to make minor changes (such as Rin training on the roof at the same time as Shiemi stands there at the ground and the missing thrown aid kit or bariyon train incident scenes etc.) seemed to throw the emotional impact from the respective manga scenes off and just didn't sit too well with me.

I think a good anime adaptation should somewhat improve on the source material since it does have the advantage of music, voice acting, colors etc.
While the OST for AnE has always been phenomenal, the music isn't used or highlighted that well in my opinion and the colour scheme and background designs are less vibrant and memorable / beautiful to look at in contrast to the source material.

I know you were just trying to say that the manga is not that different from the anime, that it's most likely just a pacing issue but I think that's a really big problem!

Back when I first saw the first season and consequently caught up with the manga, I felt that a second season was very much needed and was hoping for a good adaptation of some of the later really interesting arcs but so far I've been heavily disappointed and feel as though they shouldn't have made a second one if it was going to be this way...

Since many anime adaptations are just made to promote the source material, I hope that this will actually lead to more people reading & buying the volumes but then again, if a faithful adaptation is boring due to pacing, many potential readers might just gloss over it, decide not to bother with the series at all ( some poeple might assume that if the "bad" anime is faithful, the manga must be "just as bad").

So I hope people will turn their attention to the manga..

(Sorry if this came off as one giant unnecessary rant but I hope you understand better why I'm so negative about a seemingly satisfying adaptation)

I see where you're coming from, my point mostly is that I'd rather have a faithful adaptation than the rushed ones we get most of the time.

On a different point, this adaptation could feel a bit slow/dull only if we consider the one cour length. Had we at least a two-cour run, giving a few episodes for (imortant)character development isn't really a waste. I say important, becaue one of AnE's strongest points for me personally has always been its strong supporting cast and with that in mind it's easy to see why I give a free pass to an opportunity for thorough development.

"This boy is my son, and I'm taking him back." Goddammit best dad eva R.I.P. Shirou! They had to make it more emotional when Rin had these flashbacks of his dad... even if he felt like that Suguro was way out of line and what better person to tell him than Rin who went through a similar process. Suguro you bastard! Don't make the same mistake Rin did and regret it later!

I want to see the look on Mamushi when she learns that that bastard is not worth her trust as he inevitable is going to turn on her to get that eye...

The traitor was too predictable. Didn't surprise me at all. The moment she asked her sisters if they believed her was the peak of my suspicion. It turned out to be true lol. Surprise surprise!

So... nobody's really gonna react to the blue flames aside from the relevant characters? The same blue flames that killed a lot of priests in the Myoda Sect?

Nice going for Rin though... shouting and all that he's Satan's son. Nobody's gonna react to that as well? Maybe in the next episode? Lets find out.

Pretty nice development from some of the characters. Although I'm not gonna lie, this arc has been dull so far. I'm not talking about the lack of action either. I can live with it. It's just a really dull arc.

I wonder when will this show get interesting. I think that filler-ridden 1st season held up my attention more. Shura's tits were marvelous though.

Wow. Just keeps getting better. I love this type of stuff.

Rin seeing his own relationship with his father play out with the Suguros got me. It really is too late once your parent passes away. That will always get me a little emotional.

And so it was Mamushi after all. Smh.

And now everyone's turning against Rin, even though he was doing the right thing. Doing the right thing isn't always the easy thing, or the thing people "want". It will often make you uncomfortable. Just something to keep in mind.

I *just* realized Yuki basically hasn't been in the last several episodes. I don't really miss him, surprisingly. I thought he provided a good character in the first season, but he seems pretty unimportant in season 2. If he didn't appear in another episode, would anyone really miss him? I don't think so.

Snake girl Mamushi was great, her character design is helping a lot for making her looks so cool, and Rin somewhat went berserk against Bon because of all the struggling he had regarding his father relationship, that was good, though showing his flames in front of everyone ahah this guy really not think before doing something
