Man... Ultear`s flashback was really something else in the anime. I`m really glad she reformed after this, it would be sad if she went out like that. She`s my favourite female in Fairy Tail!

I loved that flash of lightning at the end... ^^

Grey was kinda cool but another cop out win.

Most of the bad guys just aren't very bad....
Ultear - no longer bad. done fighting.
Meredy - if Ultear is done she's done. not that bad to begin with.
Azuma - beaten, but a bad guy with honor.
Caprico - no more possession and joined Lucy.

Zancrow seems to be back up finally. who knows about Kain? Bluenote?

I really hope this doesn't go back to hey let's give Natsu all the spotlight and let him beat Hades. Gajeel ought to have somewhat recovered by now? I miss Gajeel.

Plus NEED LAXUS NOW.

mah my biggest qualm with the ft anime has always been that they dont adapt the fights as epically or as bloody- and that has really been a thorn in my side for a while. but i actually liked this fight, ive enjoyed this arc animated immensely, as i actually began watching fairy tail again for the first time in like a year. i also thought that ultear's back story was animated splendidly. yes its super cliched that the only villian is going to become a good guy because of some hacks reason, but thats what makes fairy tail what it is. i think. without nakama power attack what would any of this be

One of the things that really impressed me about this episode was how they tied Ultear's history to one of the continuing themes in Fairy Tail: redemption for some of the villains. When Ul talked about the infinite possibilities for her daughter, not all of those were necessarily good or happy. Brain took Ultear from her mother, lied to both of them, and then systematically tortured and abused Ultear for his own purposes. There is usually a good explanation as to why people turn out the way they do. FT takes the optimistic point of view that by understanding what has happened to themselves, some people can achieve redemption. Also interesting to note how Makharov has always been willing to welcome young children into the guild and provide them with a supportive and nurturing environment. It all seems to hang together.

Time to increase my score for the series once again. I'm glad I overcame my reluctance and gave this show a chance.

I can respect your opinion and all,but,this fight barely had any still shots(Especially compared to the other downright terrible fight scenes in this arc.).And was atleast won by something OTHER than "Nakama Power".What was so bad about this fight where as atleast for me felt like breath of fresh air from the other terrible fight scenes?In the meantime,it barely even seemed like you payed attention to the episode.

Damn epic episode! The backstory was just too touching, and well what would you do if the thing you lived your whole life for was just a lie... really touching that they brought the concept of Ul's memories being all over the sea! Either way I really enjoyed this episode, really touching and just soo good!

It would be funny if she and Erza actually meet...and Erza would say something like: "You will pay for what you did to Gellal.... Requip!" That would be one dream of a fight...

Yaaay happy days for Ultear she's realised her mother loved her :') All that's left now is to beat Master Hades! I really like this arc now because we got to here Ultear's back story, Cana's reason for wanting to win and Lucy gained another key! And lightning? Ooooh he's coming! I hope Ultear joins to fight against Hades... Man, all the bad guys should just end up either dying or joining Fairy Tail xD

This was some strange mix of cheesy and touching... Ultear's past was quite dark by Fairy Tail standards, surprisingly so. I'm glad Gray, also to my surprise, didn't asspull his win but rather snagged a victory that made some sort of sense.

Still, after Ultear's literally lifelong scheming and obsession with Zeref, developing plans that lasted years and more or less motivated almost every Fairy Tail arc so far, for her to lay down like this just feels... anti-climatic. She was supposed to be a tremendous antagonist and a driving force behind nearly all the evils Fairy Tail has encountered, and it ends in a single episode when she hears her mom's voice in the sea? Yeah, I dunno. Her backstory and relationship with her mother truly was touching, and if it was any other character or if Ultear was not hyped to the degree she was it would've been beautiful. But it wasn't any other character, and I'm kind of disappointed. Maybe disappointed that her role of mastermind has been delegated to Hades.

It also appears my instinct about the Seven Kin not being completely generic bad guys but having some, at least superficial, depth to them was spot on. Out of all the random nobody bad guy groups Fairy Tail has thus encountered, the Seven Kin definitely proved themselves the best. I like all of them, some more than others.

Great episode imo. The flashback scenes really re freshened things and the fight wasn't half bad.

I feel bad for Ultear. All this time she's been living nothing but lies and in the end her mother never abandoned her or stopped caring for her. While Ultear always had in her mind revenge towards her.

It was a great episode. But the only problem is how the memory came to her. It was pure bullsh!t how her memories stayed in the water. Yes their is folk belief of water carrying memories but she mixed with the sea. It shouldn't matter at this point what part of the ocean Ur is in because Ultear is long gone.

Also considering she uses the same ice magic as Ur, he should just call his homie on the phone and be like: "yeah so you remember being obsessed about surpassing Ur?"

Proceed to Ultear getting her ass kicked by Ur's students
Also fr, no normal kid would return to torture rather than taking 5 extra steps to see their mother and find out why she "abandoned and replaced you" which is already an insane amount of assumptions but sure I get it some people just be wired emotionally and irrationally like that. But to then return to hell rather than find out the truth is beyond stupid. That said her entire back story is beyond stupid and comes down to a lack of communication.
Like if Ur just said where she was taking her and if Ultear didn't give up right when she reached her mother rather than literally walking 5 more steps, none of this would have happened... it's dumb.
The detail of Ur flowing into the ocean was good though.
Also considering the explanation of her name, it should be written Urtear
But imagine becoming a supervillain because of a misunderstanding...
It's not like Fairy Tail's writing is 100% shit but almost every major story has something that's either badly written or just frustrating.
The series has a lot of qualities, like world building and all that but honestly I get now why it's not "quite" top tier, it's still insanely popular relatively speaking and it has clearly inspired plenty of other creators (Black Clover for example which defenitly surpasses it when it comes to writing imo) If I had to rank it by world building and comedy, characters etc. it would rank high no doubt, but if we are just talking sheer writing quality it's not even in the top 10 anime I've watched, and I haven't even watched a ton of anime. (back when I wrote this comment)
Because in the end it wastes a lot of it's potential and qualities by simply not having great writing. It's not bad, it might even be better than mediocre but it's defenitly not "Good" it tries to make it feel like it's better than it actually is by over complicating simple things, subverting expectations and that probably works on a ton of people it uses "can't see the forest through the trees" against you. It's puffed up a lot but in reality there's no much there, and most of the things are there to distract you from major plot holes and lack of good writing. The edolas arc was defenitly "the worst" so far when it comes to plot holes and but other nonsense and just in general being badly written (again the characters and world building is good it's just the actual story that isn't) I sure hope it doesn't go further downhill than that at least because I find it hard enough to watch as is, because bad writing frustrates the crap out of me unless it's purposefully bad or self aware, but this show is so "insecure" that it ends up making it's writing terrible by trying to fake it being good whereas if they had just left it as is, it would have been mediocre but it wouldn't be as bad. They should have just "owned it" and it would have probably been a lot better.
