The main was a smart, scheming, heartless bastard, aiming to take over both worlds with a passion.

the first 5 episodes were okay, but it has boiled down to a mediocre slice of life.

I personally love the way it is. It's irony. You originally expected Maou to be evil, but as the show progressed, you see that he's truly kind hearted and hard working.

Are you fucking serious? How the fuck is Oga or Beel evil in any way? And if you're talking about Beel's dad, how is he a heartless, scheming bastard? This show is fine as it is.

Yet plenty of people would disagree by saying that DS2 is the most wasted potential of the season, maybe even the year.

Meh, I think it's fine, not great. I don't think that would help it, it's how the show has supposed to have been. There's not much you can do after those first 5 eps besides this. The comedy started out pretty good but now I don't laugh at it. The whole people coming over to assassinate him or whatever got boring since the NEET came, the story is quite average. I never had any higher hopes than this in the first place.

The first arc is indeed better. It was smooth and epic. I don't really get why are you complaining and calling it a "mediocre slice of life" at this point. The first half had a lot of action and in the same time it had a solid comedy in it. These past episodes were pretty good in terms of comedy. The quality didn't really drop. It just has to build up for the second arc climax. So you want every episode to be EPIC? Well, I believe that is not possible with this kind of show. They needed to have character development which is very important if you are following an actual plot. Are you saying that you are enjoying DS2 where characters and monsters just appear everywhere like bullshit? Sure you get an action with good animation every episode but the story just fucked up itself because of it. Besides the series isn't over yet. The action just begun in the latest episode. There's still a lot of mystery to be unveil.

The LN readers said White Fox is kind of dragging this latter half because the next volume would affect the story greatly if they ever animate it in the same season. They did a wise thing to just wait patiently and get ready for the season 2.

"The main was a smart, scheming, heartless bastard, aiming to take over both worlds with a passion." ? You don't even know yet a single shit about Maou when he was in Ente Isla and you complain like you know the future?

It's still a great series. Sure it is behind Titan but you can't ask for more.

You can't make it "better", you can only make it "different". Suggestions change the genre and the plot.

Those who want to make it "better", I have a poll for you:

I agree with everything you said. The evil they want is more violence with random battles instead of the build up it has towards the conclusion of this season. Ex. Oga fights every episode, in some for no reason at all it feels like and the only love interest that Beelzebub has is more of a joke then anything.

There is a reason why the recent episodes have been boring and filler-ish

They have to dragged out vol.2 of the novel so that they will end it there due to how volume 3 works.

The show is still awesome though IMO . I look forward to it more than SnK

but for me i'm still ok with this show even if the past few episodes became a filler it still didnt lost its comedy and story, I really like this show for building its plot .but I am and still hoping for some action in the last 2 episodes. I'll just wait for the episodes before giving this a decent criticism.

Since it was brought up, DS2 had no potential to begin with. It's Pokemon with cell phones, that's already pretty low. It's just horribly bad (imo). Its rating is constantly falling.
Shortly before ep2 aired it was at 8.04. Now it's on 7.30.
Justifiying that big difference with wasted potential is kinda exaggerating.

On topic:
Yet this anime is constantly around a rating of 8.3. I don't know but that seems kinda good enough to say a lot of people like it.
Changing a thing would probably be for the worse under these circumstances.
I agree with IntroverTurtle's criticism, though.

Emi would have wiped the floor with him from episode 2. One of the main humor this show offers me is seeing Maou innocently adapt to the new world, while the Hero, who is ironically portrayed as more of a villain than Satan, chases him around.

that's what you call plot and character development
yes, it's rather boring and somehow cliche, but we've got to know suzuno's background and all of her hesitancy about maou
this what you guys call "filler" will be a turning point for the further plot advance

Just gonna ask, did you play the game? I've only played a little of it (my save file keeps getting corrupt), but the game was awesome. That's where the potential comes in.

Also, the fuck kind of generic slice of life's play out the way the last episode did?

Refer to above post. Like the Final Fantasy series, the Shin Megami Tensei (or the Megami Tensei) series is one of the most acclaimed and loved JRPGs there is. Devil Survivor 2 happens to be part of the Megami Tensei series. If you played the game, you'd know how different it is from the game, thus the "wasted potential".

The show's not bad, but they just haven't managed to keep up the hilarious comedy from the first few episdodes. Just compare the jokes from episodes 1-3 to the ones now, they are just so much funnier.

Also the "serious" plot is damaged by the fact that characters forgive each other way too quickly. They showed Emi's flashbacks with her villlage being destroyed, and initially she thought it was Sadao's doing, then it turns out it was Lucifer's, but then she conveniently forgets about it?

Apart from the episode 10 (your mostly filler beach episode) it were being a great show in my opinion: It is just natural and makes total sense everything, each character is quiet nicely developed.

For example, about Maou-san, he got more kind with humanity because he had the oportunity to live as one: usually, discrimination, hates, destroy desires and stuff comes from ignorance; now he knows what he did from a human perspective, he now just doesn't feel on the glad to make them hurt at all, specially the "normal World" who din't make him any hurt. Also, he seems to enjoy a lot some of the things of a more developed world like the corporation competition and stuff, "future time is better time", some says. Empathy.

And also, apart from his kind and certain attach to our world, he's still a pro and pretty observative, he is just not your idiotic generic protagonist. Also, rebember he is a king, not a General, so, it is obvious he is not so skilled like Ashiya or Lucifer are, but he is at the level.

So, yeah, it could have been of other way, like, he could just din't care about everything and destroyed Japan and come back to Ente Isla and end story, but, just look at that: that is your pretty generic argument, it even rebembers me to Bowser! In that place, they made the correct character development and gave a lot of different oportunities to see all those characters from Ente Isla to interact with our world, what also made a lot more of chance to make a laught.

And yeah, apart from the Episode 10 (still, it wasn't an horrible episode, the tempo needed to relax a bit and was an adove avarage beach episode), the show is surprising well made and developed and IT makes laughs on the path, for some more, for some less, like any comedy.

I'm about to giving it 8.8/10, but I need to see how the seasons ends.

I expected an innovative comedy.

Pretend you know nothing about this show, then hearing the synopsis for an adult swim show, it would place much more focus on the main character and his quirks from being satan and his advancement in society than his friends, and the slice of life elements we have gotten.

What's wrong with P4:tA? I just watched it, there was very little that I found to be annoying in that series (yes, I admit. I just spent my entire day watching it instead of continuing the game). Is the bold part relating to the different endings or something? Could you elaborate? I don't understand why it doesn't translate well into an anime. If you mean the anime is a horrible adaption, then I'd agree. If you meant it wouldn't have worked as an anime, then I disagree. P.S. We should take this somewhere else. It's off topic, after all.

The only reason the story is just now beginning to move again (after 4 episodes of not moving) is the fact that animating vol. 3 was not in the plan to begin with. Vol. 3 would change things and is best saved for season 2.

Anyways, I don't feel that the quality has dropped at all. Sure, the first five episodes were AWESOME but the ones following it were still pretty good. Just because they don't measure up to the first five doesn't mean they suck.

Maou maybe is not an heartless bastard but he is all the others, I don't want to spoil it for you but just imagine that even in the real world some successful people started in the lowest job and work they way up.
Maou knows nothing about how the world he is in works but he is learning and he is a long lived demon give him enough time and he might be able to take over the world because he had done it before. I think like most people you got sidetrack by the comedy of the story.

I don't like how people are disappointed by its potential it 'could' of had, after episode 2 I think it was easy to see that he was going to stay as a good person.
And that's what made me love this anime even more, for its uniqueness!!!

But I will admit that its conflicts in the story isn't working so well.
Its all over the place, they should of went more peaceful in the beginning, then in the middle, example after 16 episodes comes a huge conflict.
The breaking point is... slow in a disappointing way.

We usually get this kind of opinions in anime that are not serious but have dark angles. And sometimes they are right but i don't agree with this this one. If we just simply evil then he would simply be an antagonist to beat and nothing more. This show is very fun because of the craziness he and his company of friends live in and their silly attitude. If he was all evil and still had such silly attitude then he would seem like a stupid villain so his better this way.

Invader Zim probably would have been a better comparison. The most evil entity on the planet, hatching various schemes while trying to work his way from part-time McDonalds worker to supreme rule of the planet.

I was trying to stay political earlier, but considering the quality of replies I have seen I don't need to hold back... This show is horrid, absolutely atrocious. It isn't funny, and it draws you in with an interesting synopsis only to fling crap at you in hopes that you are too invested to stop watching.
