Let me start by saying that I'm not talking about the performances by both the Japanese and English cast because both of those are amazing. I'm talking about the subtitles versus the English dub script. There is a lot of inaccuracies in the subtitles and I think the dub script is alot more legible and concise. Anyone else agree who has watched both? I spent about two days straight comparing them.

If you're watching in an English dub, never ever turn on subtitles because you'll be just like watching a original Japanese dub reading subtitles.

Switching to English Dub feels like you're listening to their conversation while watching the moving art.

So a tip for you: Don't turn on subtitles if you're watching an English Dub.

(sorry for my bad English. that wasn't my first language)

Well, the circumstances behind DanDaDan’s dub are actually quite unique! Since the dub was actually commissioned by Shueisha and MBS two of the Japanese companies involved with the production of DanDaDan! Perhaps since the animes production committee had such heavy supervision over the English dub it resulted in the dub script having a better translation than normal!

Agreed. I watch the sub first and then the dub with my brother and I find myself liking the dub’s script and dialogue much more. The voice acting itself in the sub is phenomenal tho, Wakayama and Hanae are such great castings.
Netflix subs always feel stilted to me in many shows they license, I don’t understand it.

I watched the premiere in sub, but when the episodes started actually airing, I managed to get my friend who doesn’t watch anime to check it out with me. Since she’s not really used to it along with poor eyesight, we watched it in dub. Honestly I think both are pretty equal depending on the kind of experience you want. I personally didn’t find much of a difference between the sub and dub scripts, but then again when I watch sub, I don’t fully pay attention to subs but rather listen to the jp. Maybe I’ll see if I can tell in ep 4 lol

Personally, I prefer the sub. I had read the manga for a long time before the anime had even been announced (so I've had a long time to think about how their voices sound) and the voices just fit the characters more in my opinion.

@Marconaeus I didn't watch it the English dub with subtitles turned on, I watched it subtitled with Japanese and the English dub separately.

@TehJandro When I first got into anime I believed everyone who's first language was English just naturally watched anime dubbed. I didn't even think it would be released in the West unless it was dubbed in English. And no, I'm not joking. I just started watching subtitled anime in 2022. I can go for either sub or dub nowadays but I'll always pick dub if it's available.

I like both.

I started watching anime as a dub watcher and later on when I got older branched out into subs, so I thought my opinion would be a little biased lol.

But I digress, certain characters in the show I favor the dub va, not to mention I’d like to pay closer attention to the animation/art style because it’s very vibrant and good looking.

I also perceive the dub funnier in general. Like during the scene when Okarun was outside Ayase’s room, he called her a bitch instead of the “you’re so ugly.” I definitely think the dub is better for scenes like that. I don’t really think it matters which one you prefer, but from a dubbing standpoint the anime does it well.

@gloozed Yeah, I didn't start watching sub anime until 2022 and I'm happy I branched put because I'd be missing a hell of alot of gems if I only watched dubbed. Especially since there's a hell of alot less dubs nowadays since the merger between Funimation and Crunchyroll. Any time something has alot of Comedy I definitely prefer dub. Stuff like Konosuba, Cautious Hero, Panty & Stocking, The 100 Girlfriends, Watamote and Girlfriend Girlfriend wouldn't be the same without the insane dubs.

tip, don't turn on your subtitles watching the dub version. why? japanese is a language that isn't as simple as English is. one word can have different meanings, the usage, the placement, the tone it's said in and the context it is said in. soooo....basically the subtitles aren't a 100% accurate.
also because of this very reason, sometimes, what the Japanese versions as can be altered in the English version a bit.

I much prefer the voices for the sub. I'll give dub another try though. I like both sub and dub, most of the time I just stick to sub but if there's a really good dub like frieren's or cowboy bebop I always go with that.

I feel like many people are misinterpreting the point here. This isn't sub vs dub. OP is saying that the SUBTITLES in the Japanese-dubbed version are worse in comparison to the script (i.e., character lines and dialogues) of the English-dubbed version. And I'm inclined to agree. It's not because I like sub or dub more, it's just that the diaolgues feel more natural in the English dub, which isn't to say the the Japanese-dubbed version is bad, but rather that the subtitles are.

I think if we just swap out the subtitles with the script of the English dub, we can have best of both worlds, whereas those who prefer listening rather than reading can choose to watch the English dub instead.

Subtitles these days just feel like trash, I don't know if that's because of piracy or everyone is just using AI.

I've been very impressed with the dub here thus far.

The fact you compare the true voices (Japanese) with the fake ones is just crazy. The true voices are objectively the only voice for the characters, anything else should never be used as financial profit or taken as a reference.

Dub is the worst, a threat and racist.

The original product should never be touched.
All weebs creatures of the galaxy, hear this message. Those of you who listen will not be struck by western animation. You will no longer know hunger, nor pain. Your Anime have come to lead you now. Our strength shall serve as a luminous sun toward which all intelligence may blossom. And the impervious shelter beneath which you will prosper. However, for those who refuse our offer and cling to their western animation ways… For you, there will be great wrath.

It's weird to see that some of these dumbasses would rather watch some shitty misspelled "fansub" than an actually decent dub. I mean I get it that more than a few dubs are just down right shit but to hate the whole thing like this is so cringe 😂. I mean half of these kids haven't even watched a dub anyway, just came here to give some bullshit opinion they saw on the internet which they think makes them cool. How about you "sub viewers" watch something other than shounens and judge their dubs. To think that so many retards still exist on the internet is mind blowing.

I may try this; I can't stand the American dub voices but I have noticed some spelling errors in the sub which can throw you off when trying to keep up with what is quite a fast-paced show.

I mean I could be wrong but pretty sure this show isn't THAT dialogue heavy and complicated that it would matter having a few errors in the subs. It is an action-based shounen after all. Give me sub all day, hearing bad and cringey eng VAs just takes me out of it

@billybub Because it's not garbage. I feel the people who say this don't really watch or listen to dubs. The dub is excellent for this show. They did a good job casting for it. We got fucking Haruko's English playing Seiko. That's perfect casting if I have ever seen it.

@Nurguburu DBZ Mexican fans will like a work with you when saying that shit. You may also catch heat from Ranma and Saint Seiya Mexican fans too. Foreign language dubs are so important to our entertainment media as not everyone is down to read. It's different when it's a movie though but some like those dubbed over too. Original products will be "touch" because they want to make money. how do you think American animation titles such Hazbin Hotel and Steven Universe have Japanese fans?

At the end of the day no matter how you watch something it's about enjoyment. This is coming from someone who watches both.

I actually think the script is the weakest aspect of the show in general, but yeah the dub one is definitely better.

The line that really sold that was the "you're ugly" being replaced with "bitch" which just works so much better on every level.

I enjoy both dub and sub so try to meet people in the middle but alot of these people are just offensive to be sharing the same planet as me.
