Can't help but point out how the manga synopsis says Irkutsk in particular, the anime synopsis just Siberia. Fair enough. The anime however changed it from Russia to Alaska (US). Pls don't tell me it's because ..

Funny how post 2022 politics also caused the change in many products names with Russian in it or in this case altered a location to fit the present times.

Good start. This is the kind of rom-com that's to my absolute liking. And Saori Hayami is always a delight.

Mmm, I like the manga a lot but this adaptation does not convince me for now. Direction is unimaginative and editing is too quick. Voices are vanilla.
I'll watch some additional episodes hoping it will improve but this first episode doesn't give me much hope.

A bit unexpected the girl taking the "lead" but it was fun. It seems to me i will enjoy this series, this adult environment is a good vibe

I didn't expect the story to be more serious than I imagined... I thought it would be a goofy romcom like it usually is. What I like is that even though it's not as light as I imagined, but it's not that serious either, I really enjoyed the first episode.

Let's see if Oohara can propose to Honjouji for real... within 365 days...?

I liked this manga overall so was happy seeing this get an anime. The first episode itself was pretty decent, just wish the overall production was better since visually, it did look a bit too stiff quite often here. Luckily the content itself is still decent and I like the two of them here and the weird shenanigans happening, and the fact that the two of them are more introverted for some reason makes watching this more endearing in a way.

Wow, kind of surprised by how much I liked the first episode, with relatively good pacing and Rika getting straight to the point of setting up this fake marriage to avoid being shipping off to Alaska. Rika also has an interesting hobby with maps which I find fascinating so that is another plus. I'm looking forward to more of this romance as it's one of the few adult-cast ones with a workplace setting.

Why did they change Irkutsk to Anchorage?

Because noone would believe that travel agency owners in their sane mind decided to open a branch in a country with an ongoing war situation, duh

For the episode itself it is fine, I read the manga as well and it was in general ok, just too long as the pacing was slow (dropped after 50 or so chapters)

I have to admit, the main reason I wanted to watch this anime was because the protagonist's voice is done by Saori Hayami. Also, I'm getting a bit tired of the typical pairing of an average guy with the popular girl.

At first, I didn't like the boss much because of the way she talked to Oohara, but that changed once I realized she had no suspicion about their fake relationship and was even a fan of it.

It was a charming first episode, and although Honjouji and Oohara have trouble communicating, Oohara really needs to step up more. But that’s not a problem for me, because from the very beginning, it’s clear that he’s an introverted person. Expecting him to suddenly take charge is ridiculous. Still, both will grow, both as a fake couple and as individuals, while maintaining this charade. It’s going to be a sweet, adult romance.

I can confirm that there a exceptionally large mosquitos in Alaska.
@LordCrueltyV And rumor is they exist in great numbers. Enough to drop your blood pressure. Well, I intend never to find out. Besides, with Climate Change, I'm sure they are only getting worse!

5/5 but with a major flaw: Why couldn't he just take that awesome cat with him?!

I really like this, I can relate to both MCs and the mistakes male MC made like not doing a duet with her he fully realizes.

Saying "Please Marry Me" truly is a hard thing to say and I would have absolutely loved it if he did, but likely this fake marriage will evolve into a real marriage.

The cat is awesome and he seems like a decent guy, she seems really awesome and LOVES maps with it being a major hobby. Both of them seem to be hard-workers.

I could definitely see myself volunteering for the position, but being stuck in Alaska (unless quit) sounds awful. ~2 years sounds fine, other guy been in his spot for 10 years but debatable whether he's actually miserable. I would think mosquitoes would only be issue in summer but I don't know. Funny how the suspicion is they bonked and are having a kid, and not marriage is way out. In before they get married and both go to Alaska LOL
@LilyVarbik It's NOT Summer you worry about in Alaska. LOL

@nick_el_son Also, Japan & Russia STILL don't have the best relations. Ever since Stalin refused to give back 3 roc..er, islands that really belong to Japan after the end of WWII. What either Country would want with them escapes me, but then we have that Island chain from Alaska too. LOL

good setup, but unlikeable MC (male), the typical wuss that can't say anything right, it's old and it's boring, will give it an ep or two more for a chance to give some development in the character if not it's an easy drop

I love the fact that Takuya is 2 years younger than Rika . This kind of age gap , where FMC is older than the male MC , is rare to be found in any romance anime .

So I am considering giving a 10 out of 10 rating for this anime . Really looking forward to the next episodes .

Omg, those two are just like me, fr.

Wish there were more adult-oriented slice of life settings like this taking place in the workplace.

If I were to answer during a job interview at that travel agency what my greatest weakness was, I'd answer "beautiful women like Kurokawa-san" (to avoid saying my gut response of "older women"). I would probably be asked to leave by their HR dept. or hiring manager, but it'd be worth shooting my shot.

I wonder if he named his cat "Kama" after Kamaitachi, with how it darts around like a gale of wind.

I hope they save the "proposal" for the end of the series. I love this show already with how cute and wholesome it is.

Overall, my final thoughts can be summed up in one image:

Chugging wine to "max excitement", barging in with a karaoke machine, singing a lame old song with "a faint voice from Hades"... I laughed.

I was thinking it would've been nice if he joined in with the singing to save her from embarrassment, but then it turns out the guy thought that too.

Also that ferris wheel exchange was charming. It's refreshing that he actually couldn't say it. Then she goes, "I'll wait as long as it takes." Awesome.

Pretty likable, slightly weird characters. This didn't feel as bland as I expected.

If I had a nickel for every time saori hayami has to voice a woman faking a marriage, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice

Two adult introverts, a fake marriage, one crazy, adorable kitty... I'm definitely gonna enjoy this one a lot. I could definitely relate to people judging me wrongly and assuming I don't like them just because I'm not as exuberant as them, or trying to think of a good thing to say but then getting talked over or dismissed. That's kinda crazy how your job could force you to move, sounds like my kind of nightmare.

Okay I've never been to Alaska, but Alaska doesn't sound super bad. If they kept it Russia then yeah I'd honestly be avoiding it as much as possible too. Still, just having to up and go to another country after a year doesn't sound ideal.
I think this was sweeter than I was expecting. It's not ridiculously gimmicky and and I can see it going in a good direction. The characters don't exactly come off as stupid, just lacking in social experience. I can get behind it.
Also, I totally get the map thing. I love looking at maps too. However, homegirl... you can use Google Maps for free and explore the whole world. I can get lost on Google Maps for hours just seeing where everything is in relative distance to each other. Things like Google Maps helped make that experience interactive as well. Now you can quickly see how long it would take to get there, best routes, and everything. AND you can walk the path if it's available. Upgrade, woman! Though sure, looking at a map physically is still fun too.

Enjoy your anime! | Witch Cafe Wisteria

The manga's very good for this but the anime adaptation feels flat admittedly. Not the most important thing ever for a romance anime but the overall movement, and even direction feels weak so far. Still was an okay premiere purely because I like the characters and overall content more than anything. Interesting to see the change though in location, from Siberia to Alaska basically in this adaptation, understandable though.

I was initially taken aback and very confused when it was mentioned that the location site for their company's new branch office would be in Alaska, rather than Siberia, considering this was out of sync with what was relayed in the synopsis. What's communicated in a synopsis is always my primary reason above all others for deciding whether to start watching a series or not (even just in the sense of trying it out), so that was jarring. I thought it was another translation screw-up or some other error directly from the source, which would have been a minor annoyance, but no big deal in the long run. Still not a tremendous deal or deal-breaker, but it is even sadder after learning the actual truth behind why it was changed, that it was done for political correctness BS and trying to defer to current events. Loathe on principle when any fictional work of any kind gets into the trap of trying to do that. Or trying to score potential brownie points and ingratiate themselves with would-be censors by way of proactive compliance. Unless they were actually forced.

That unpleasantness aside, as far as the actual predicament that they faced in-universe as it ended up being, I can say that I lived in Alaska for about six months back in 2012 which was multiple years before I started watching anime, but in all the years since I started watching it, I never expected or even really thought or conceived of the prospect of seeing a more-detailed-than-usual map of Alaska with named cities and small communities I spent time in suddenly appear in an episode of an anime series. But that aspect of things wasn't unwelcome.

Alaska is underrated, at least compared to a lot of other U.S. states. I can't speak to the one in Anchorage (I was there multiple times, but never at the store), but I think that a person like Rika Honjouji would enjoy the cozy Barnes & Noble setup they have in Fairbanks. Only one I've ever seen or been inside with a fireplace.
