@curvedtree The whole reason I found this noteworthy is this is absolutely not something you'd expect a power fantasy isekai to do.

Also, being attracted to 15-year-old girls isn't "paedophilia." And Rufeus' age is the one thing I view as a dead giveaway for the endgame, he's exactly the same age as Roxy.
@Love_And_Forward Having sex with a 15 year old girl is still against the law in most of civilised world. That's the thing, if he was a 15 years old boy, he wouldn't have a DE after a heartbreak, but considering how mentally he is a 50 years old men having DE is understandable, but at the same time that would put him as someone having sex with a minor, maybe not a paedophile, still a criminal.

Incredible episode, imo the best of the entire series so far. The way the family dynamics are written in this show is amazing and just so real, made me lowkey tear up.

I think you are outside the laws of the "civilized world" lol,It's worth remembering that Mushoku Tensei was written in 2012, at that time most countries used 14 as my age for consent, Including several countries in Europe, currently many countries have updated their laws to 16 years as the minimum age, but there are still some that use 15 or 14 years.

@Love_And_Forward I disagree, dude had impotence because a 15 years old (I don't quite remember if the redhead girl was younger or older, but they were around the same age) girl broke his heart after his first time? I understand he has a mind of a 50 years old man, but his body is still of a 15 years old teen, so what is it: are we supposed to accept a 15 years old is having DE because his heart was broken? Or are we talking about a 50 years old man having impotence - which is more common -, but at the same time we would have to accept he was a paedophile?

I am okay with fantasy elements, you can't use logic with that and I accept it, but when it comes to things you can use logic, the author better makes his logic make sense and a breaking heart causing DE is BS, so it leaves only one option.

This is actually quite common, especially in men.

@1000-MAT I could have worded that better, against the law isn't the correct term, but minors are still protected against sexual exploitation from people over the age of 18, which in most cases are just grooming them.

@1000-MAT There is nothing in that abstract that applies to Rudeus' case, it is a general explanation for DE, and in Rudeus' case he has DE because he was heartbroken, there is no mention of being heartbroken there.

@curvedtree Actually, everything in the "psychogenic" sections could apply to Rudeus; you just didn't read or understand the abstract.

Almost managed to make me cry.

Almost.
After spending the last week going back & rewatching the entire show to refresh my memory, as well as watching some of the AniNews videos about the cut content, including the one about this episode, it did manage to make me actually cry.

I'm ready to get my socks blown off in the Turning Point 3 that I'm literally right about to watch.

this episode literally has a really deep message about how someone needs to be "mature" to understand anything. i just felt the same thing as Rudeus, when i heard many complicated things when i was young. after i passed my 20s and tried to remember those things, i finally started to get the point and felt like i was too late to understand this, even tho at some point that is a normal thing because small children don't have enough knowledge to understand.

Damn I didn’t expect to get hit more with the wrongs of Rudeus’ past life and how it’s manifesting with the people that he loves here as well again. I guess this means there are still things that both Rudeus and those around him need to work on in order to move forward in life.

This time it was Norn and it seems she’s having issues due to her constantly getting compared to Rudy. That would be a lot to live up to considering that every person she talks to goes on about how great Rudeus is. There was one dude that went on about him and forgot her name completely. Like damn, she can’t escape it.

And to add on to that, she isn’t the best academically, so that’s even more pressure.

Rudy has learned from his past mistakes and he’s allowed Sylphie, Linia, and Pursena into this and because of them, he was able to prevent her from turning out like him.

Maybe one day he’ll somehow be able to fix things with his old family…

Heh, can't say I've ever went teary eyed watching a Isekai show, but this show managed it.

THIS is why it's important to have good characters surrounding the MC in a story. You can't have a OP MC with a harem that just doesn't evolve, learn or change anything humane. I do enjoy Isekai with OP protagonists too, but it's nice to see one of the genres trying to do more with the storytelling.

some sibling bonding this episode, I guess the conflict was between norm’s perception of Rudeus and everyone else’s perception of him. Not a lot of words were said between the pair of them but a lot was definitely said

You can tell the pacing is slow but it doesn't feel like a slow burn. Once things start popping off, you can bet this show will earn a top spot as long as it continues living up to the potential it's been bagging.

They should have cut out the opening to give the episode just a tad bit more like some skipped tidbits during Norn's inner monologuing and flashbacks. One thing I do think the anime kind of lacked was facial expressions and emotions. Resentment in Norn's eyes wasn't ever there whenever Rudues was brought up. Rudues unsure of what to do and anguished when Norn finally looked at his face but the anime he just looks like it was another day.

Regardless though, still the best episode episode so far of this season.
@Paul Gotta agree with that, more time wouldn't hurt, but that aside I have no complains, I felt this was a proper adaptation, they cut stuff but still get across what was essential.

Ended up tearing up with the episode, wasn't expecting feels to be back so soon!

This writer seems quite stuck on the mentality of a shut in without offering any real profound commentary on it and certainly no new commentary from the last three times Rudy dealt with it. The only exception here is the inclusion of the story about his older brother and how that is analogous to him in relation to Norn. It was a step in the right direction but still a little superficial and not enough to warrant this whole dramatic event. Rudy also once again didn't give out really any advice to Norn, just was just there for her. Which I understand is all some people dealing with depression need. However it's just not deep or intelligent writing and remains unintriguing to me. How amazing it would have been if Rudy opened up to Norn about his past struggles and been a more down to earth brother for her, bonding in their sadness together and moving on together. Might have even been dare I say touching. Instead we just get mostly copy/paste stuff about depression and being a shut in and then Norn is just suddenly fine and respects her brother somewhat now. Lackluster

If anything this episode just made me feel bad for Norn. She obviously needs someone strong to tether to and to have love poured into her by that person, but instead she's just off by herself in the dorms doing tedious study. Kids don't grow well that way, they need to be able to be kids and it's depressing to me to see Norn have all that ripped away from her even now when her situation finally allows her to be potentially enjoying that sort of life. This goes along with what I have said before about this show destroying its characters and making them all depressing or unlikable as things go on.

Absolutely beautiful depiction of what drives a person towards isolation and what can be done to help such people. The message it clearly gives is that the age, gender or association of the person do not matter, anyone can have depression and symptoms of withdrawl from their normal life. Even though most people won't have exprienced this problem to such a severe degree, I'm sure that almost all of them would be able to relate and empathize to this situation to some extent. Fabulous storytelling here!!

@curvedtree but he is at their age, just cause he have past memories doesn't mean he adult in kids body, biology sets limits, so u cant be old man at birth even if u have past life memories, rudy's behavior and how he is has only shown how perverted kid matures becomes teen and also better human step by step and new i think hes already early adult 18+, haven't checked hes current age in the show, knowing that he has memories of past life is clouding ur vison

not awry case of 15 or 16 with 18+ is pedophilia, 16 got married to 21 old guy in my country (she was pregnant at wedding day, looked like 5 or 6 months), its ferry rare but with parents approval it can happen, love can happen with different age groups, it just ferry complicated sins only small portion of parents would be ok with it, they would half to be really close to the family and be trusted by them, like they must be ferry sure hes not a pedo

article is in Estonian
https://www.ohtuleht.ee/melu/748144/erika-salumae-tutar-abiellus

u obviously don't know what pedophilia is so u shouldn't throw that word around, pedos target minors and only minors and loose interest in them when they become adults, Rudy stays with hes wives until death

This is exactly what this series does the best, drawing parallels where needed and using them to push the character develepoment forward.
All of that underlying the importance of family.

One of the best episode in this season so far.

A bit of thought though: It's relatively easy for Norn to get out of her shell since she has pretty face, is generally liked by her schoolmates and wasn't really bullied unlike certain fat otaku.
Wouldn't be so easy if she was in his situation. Most liktely, she would have to suffer through the school and then get in some position where knowledge is more important than looks.
