Sengoku time!!!! Se no! Kicking things off with the beginning and first part of Nademonogatari, a.k.a Nadeko Draw. Locked in her room since the incident with Kaiki and Araragi, Sengoku has been drawing to improve herself as a mangaka. However, reality hits her when her parents scold her. She became friends with Ononoki, who had the idea of creating copies of Sengoku to help her become a mangaka: Gentle Sengoku, Fawning Sengoku, Anti-Sengoku, and Divine Sengoku. Essentially, she confronts all parts of herself, all her past selves, but they are still her. She understands them, accepts everything from them, and comes to terms with it. Really sad we didn't get another Sengoku banger for an OP. One thing I'm not sad about is the fact that Ononoki is here to stay! Also get some Ougi, my beloved. Been far too long. Sadly looking like he's in his male form this time around. Ougi aside, Sengoku using Ononoki as a model is funny asf lol. I mean she does anything but be normal in her poses or in her in general, so modelling off of her is quite the thought. But I'll take any Ononoki I can get, so I'll let it fly. Ononoki made her do the little pisu sign too ✌️ We also get some Shinbou and Gaen "cameos". Hopefully they come back... That aside, surprisingly enough, Ononoki actually has some good advice for Sengoku and her mangaka life. To which all lead to her just creating just one copy, but FOUR copies of Sengoku. Her four copies, or "personalities", all which being her personalities from all the shows, Bake, Nise, Otori (the one that freaked out at the class) and the goddess form. To which in VERY Sengoku fashion, they ran away.... lmaoooo. Very clear now what this arc will be about now, Sengoku figuring herself out while searching for her personalities. Ougi being helpful and bringing Sengoku to her first personality that ran away... into the school! |

Yeah, tbh, Sengoku might not be one of my favourite characters in the series, but I’m glad she’s getting her chance to start again with a clean slate. And of course the seeds Yotsugi planted inside Sengoku are giving their fruits… I mean her parents kind of really scolded her over her obsession with manga making lol. Can’t go more wrong than this right? We all know what she did and what she went through, so I mean give the girl a breather and let her forget all the stuff where she wasn’t herself. Ougi’s appearance was welcomed, but again, better to not deal with it if it's really not necessary lol. Also, I’m not sure if convincing someone by taking Gaen’s name is one correct thing to do… ethically. Though hey, I’m really liking Yotsugi and Sengoku’s duo here trying to make things more outrageous rather than simply letting it go lol. The idea of four different Nadeko sounded really helpful, until it didn’t turn out that way. A great follow-up episode as well, though wonder if we’d see the skipped arcs later. |

Love how Nadeko needed to capture her other selves and they portrayed this Pokemon-esque scene. |

Well seems Sengoku still has a lot of issues in her life. Hopefully she will be able to go to school at one point but before that she has to find her doubles. That will be interesting to watch. |

Kinda salty that we're 100% skipping arcs for now, but god, these storyboards are absolutely phenomenal! The animation, imo, was even better than the first episode. Also much better paced. First one was kinda rushed. Nadeko was not even close to being a favorite character in the first three seasons, but Nademonogatari changed my opinion on that very heavily. Till now, this looks like a much more fun adaptation than Tsukihi Undo. To the anime-onlys - you're not ready for just how peak Nadeko Draw is. If you like Nadeko, this arc is for you. If you don't, it's definitely for you. And with the level of love we're getting from the animators here, it's safe to assume that we're in for absolute cinema the next 3-4 weeks. |

I kind of understood why the first episode didn't have an opening but surprised it wasn't there this time. Hope there's actually one next week and hope that there are absolutely no openings for this season. But beyond that, it was another really good episode and an effective setup for this arc. I haven't read the Off Season and Monster season books so I'm not quite feeling that erratic skipping or readjusting of the order that I can imagine light novel readers of this section might be experiencing. At least from my perspective here, it's not been too bothersome. It is a very Monogatari concept exploring Nadeko bringing her four past personalities/copies to life with her drawings similar to how her artistry was brought to life in the previous episode. Fitting that like Nadeko, they all ran away from her like they do with many of their problems they experienced. Should be a fun, wacky but interesting tool to help Sengoku grow in her characterization even in an Off/Monster season section with confronting her personalities/copies and basically either getting them to be on the same page as her and work together to achieve her goal or at the bare minimum, stop them from committing crimes that would eventually be put on the real Sengoku and have her face those consequences in the long run. Sengoku is my least favorite character personality-wise but the writing surrounding her in Otorimonogatari and eventually Koimonogatari as well was really great and this arc from Nademonogatari should be able to elevate her writing to even bigger heights. Also, Ougi has always been one of my favorite characters in Monogatari so glad to see Ougi back. Should be a fun inclusion in this arc. Generally though, even with no Araragi and even no appearances from Senjougahara, Shinobu nor Hanekawa so far, the fact that the start has been this promising with these characters is a good sign with how great the actual cast is in this franchise. The visuals as usual are great and it's nice seeing Monogatari in 2024 still look as inspired as ever with its direction, backgrounds, storyboards and symbolism to make those conversations even more fun and engaging. Ononoki's poses replicating statues as a model was hilarious, very on brand and great in particular. The pacing was really good because unlike Tsukihi Undo (which was also well paced for the most part but could feel fast at times), this should be going multiple episodes. Very excited to seeing how the rest of this arc turns out since the first episode is promising and sounds really fun to say the least. NieR:Automata's start for this cour has been better than I expected and really good, but this show's still easily had my favorite start in the Summer 2024 season so far. |

Nadeko's path to becoming a mangaka all starts with confronting herself... The first part of Nademonogatari has begun, and while Nadeko wasn't my favourite character in the Monogatari Series in any capacity, I'm interested to see how she will fare now that she has a clean slate. The idea of improving herself by confronting her past selves is an intriguing concept, and one that will certainly be a bit nostalgic, when we get to see her other personalities again. Really nice that we get to see Ougi again, and this time, as a boy, just like we saw in Hanamonogatari. Not the most exciting episode since this is just the first part of a rather long arc, the longest in Off Season in fact, but hopefully this arc will make me like Nadeko more. |

Good episode. It's very nice to see Nadeko wanting to improve herself and make her parents proud. Also funny how the idea of making 4 versions of her past selves as familiars failed the moment she and Yotsugi tried it. |

Peak episode. I can't believe the Monogatari series is coming back this strong. I genuinely think it's the best anime I've ever watched, from the first 2 episodes. I think the pacing was improved from episode 1. Outside of that, my favorite part was the 10 000h monologue, it was really pretty. 10/10 season for now. |

@TheDreamsReaper Tsukihi Undo is the last arc of Orokamonogatari. We got that first. Before that the novels have Sodachi Fiasco and Suruga Bonehead. (Fiasco actually adds a lot to the understanding of one scene in this Nadeko arc.) For now Shaft seems to have skipped Fiasco and Bonehead, jumped straight to Tsukihi Undo for episode 1, and then to Nademonogatari. If the website is to be believed, and that information added to leaked episode counts, then we might be seeing Wazamonogatari and Shinobumonogatari after this arc ends. And that suggests that they will also skip 2/3 arcs of Wazamonogatari and only adapt the one that leads straight to Shinobumonogatari. If that happens, then I'd recommend everyone to read the novels. At least the skipped arcs. Both Sodachi Fiasco and Suruga Bonehead are really good. The two arcs of Waza that they might skip are even better. |

@TheDreamsReaper I do hope so. Chances are high cause they did call the first episode "Orokamonogatari Episode 3". So they aren't ignoring the other two. But they are either rearranging them for no logical reason, or planning on making them BD exclusives (this is Aniplex we're talking about). Let's wish it's the first option, and even if they aren't in this cour, we might get them later. Plus what @CielAraragi said. Fiasco not being seen before Nadeko Draw is kinda sad. In fact, I'd say do yourself a favor and read it before next week. It's a short arc. |

This episode was much shorter than the last one. 24 minutes compared to 31 minutes. No OP in this episode either. Sad. But I did recently learn that the TV broadcast version of Bakemonogatari and possibly the other seasons also didn't have OPs in some episodes and they later added in the BD versions or in later episodes of the arcs. So, I'm guessing the same sort of thing will happen again. I don't mind watching the TV broadcast version cause I might rewatch the series with fansubs after the BD version is out anyway and I think it's gonna be interesting comparing the two versions later. But it does feel sad that I will likely miss out on some important things because of watching the TV broadcast version first. I don't get the logic behind reorganizing stuff from the novels for the anime. It just feels wrong and completely unnecessary. Why did they think this was a good idea? Make it make sense. Anyway, this episode was great. Tho I was kinda expecting a follow-up to Tsukihi Undo but I guess that's not gonna happen. At least not now. I do like that this arc will be about Sengoku Nadeko tho since I love Kana Hanazawa's portrayal of the character. You'd think after going through so much trouble with oddities/aberrations they'd learn their lesson and not try to rely on them anymore. But I suppose Sengoku had a lot of reasons to try making 4 copies of herself. Boy is that thing awfully convenient. I wish you could do that in real life. Seeing those 4 versions of Nadeko after so long feels a bit strange. I do miss the previous hairstyles of Nadeko. They all looked better than the style she has right now... Sigh... Anyway, I wonder what sort of insanity is going to happen next. Especially now that she's with Oshino Ougi. I wonder what part she will play. |

Loving the visuals (the manga panels, the Sherlock Holmes reference and the Pokemon-esque game) and the conversations they are having. I'm going to have to get back the "space bar reflexes" that I built up watching the series. As soon as the suggestion to making clones of her past self was brought up, this was bound to get messy. Yotsugi is one heck of a smooth talker. Did Nadeko really think they would cooperate? Meek Nadeko might be the easiest to persuade to help. Flirty Nadeko would probably be to busy looking for Araragi. Wrath Nadeko wouldn't even listen and go do her own thing. God Nadeko is probably heading for the shrine to reclaim her throne from Hachikuji. I'm a bit curious if their memories are synced up or if they are stuck where their character arcs begin. Speaking of Hachikuji, wonder if she will be able to intervene like she did with the snail. Or maybe Nadeko can rip up the paper. Nonetheless, I think this is a great way for Nadeko to do some reflection and finally put her past behind (by possibly going to school again). |

Surpriiiiise... who on earth would've thought that reviving four iterations of the most unstable Monogatari character (Including the snake god!!!!) would lead to problems? But hey, Nadeko is not exactly known for her good judgement and Yotsugi is beyond concepts like caution or ethics, so it's completely in character that they'd do this without a care in the world. Gotta say, I'm really enjoying this duo and Ononoki as a Narrator is such a nice change of pace, I actually prefer her to Araragi (just my taste though). Now with that said... OUGI MY BOY/GIRL, YOU'RE AS BEAUTIFUL AS WHEN I LAST SAW YOU! Erm, excuse me, some of my unhealthy fixation leaked through. Everything that came out of Ougi's mouth was witty, cryptic and contradictory as usual. Really makes me miss Final Season. With what Novel readers have said, I'm very much looking forward to this arc. I firmly hold the opinion that Nadeko is the most well written out of Monogatari's characters and one of the all time best characters in general. I have a feeling this opinion is about to be reinforced over the next few weeks. |

Ononoki is quite the trouble maker so far. I somewhat wonder what her motives are with Sengoku, last time it seemed she went to Sengoku for help, but from this side Sengoku views her as some kind of mentor. As "job-driven" as Ononoki claims to be, and for how much she blames these other girls for her problems, she seems to be starting a lot of stuff on her own. Ougi asking all of the important questions to drive the story and keep the viewers informed. Very Oshino-coded. |

Was it just my hearing or did the subs really translate "otokonoko" as just "boy" when Nadeko is talking about Ougi?
@Thoguht Yeah, a bit of a tricky one without having the LN to check what it meant there. In Japanese, otokonoko (男の子) typically means "boy" or "young boy," where "otoko" (男) means "male" or "man," and "ko" (子) means "child." However, otokonoko (男の娘) is also a slang term used in otaku culture to refer to a male character who dresses and often behaves in a very feminine manner, resembling a girl. In this context, "otokonoko" is a play on words, with "娘" (which usually means "daughter" or "girl") replacing the usual "子" to indicate the cross-dressing aspect. There's a chance Nisio meant it as a word play, since past Ougi was a boy crossdressing as a girl, while current self is just a boy. It's probably best to not translate this word there and should of just been left as otokonoko, though that could also be seen as unprofessional to not translate a word. |

@3033 1. they only did part 3 of Orokamonogatari called Tsukihi Undo, maybe because it's relevant here with the Ononoki Nadeko relations. It's unknown if they'll do the first two parts as well, but very likely they won't be in this first 14 episode batch. I'm not sure of the rationale, but doing it in order would of meant they needed at least at least half a season on short episodic stories, while Nademonogatari that they're doing starting from episode 2 is a strong single arc that will span a few episodes. |

Looks like this next story is Nadeko focused, which I’m happy about because she’s been out of the picture pretty much ever since Kaiki dealt with her god mode. And wow, I actually can’t believe the situation her and Ononoki got themselves in even happened lol, when Ononoki first mentioned Nadeko making four copies of herself I knew we were about to see her past selves return since they were touched on at the beginning of the episode, but I also knew this was a terrible idea because Nadeko also mentioned how wildly different each version of herself is, so getting them all to work together was never happening lol, the biggest problem tho is the return of Nadeko’s god version, it can’t be good that they just manifested a god lol, also the ost sounding like Renai Circulation in this scene was a nice touch. That being said, it is a very fun situation, also an absolute dream that there are now five Nadekos existing at once depending on how you feel about her lol, I’ve always enjoyed Nadeko myself even in her lower points. Also nice to see Ougi again, looks like the version of her cosplaying as Araragi is sticking around which makes how she is in Hanamonogatari make sense, and I’m not sure if I should be referring to her as a guy or not now lol, I just can’t undo how I know her, but the important thing is that she’s still our silly Ougi, that bicycle flip she did was radical. Some other things I wanted to mention, like there being a lot of live action scenes in this episode, not against it tho, there were some beautiful shots and they actually work for Monogatari. Also, not sure about the whole 10,000 hours rule, they didn’t include the fact we need to sleep in there lol, I’m sure there’s some truth to it tho. And still no OP unfortunately, hopefully we get it eventually, I know the TV versions of Monogatari seemed to skip the OP a lot so it’s nothing new but still. |

Love how Nadeko needed to capture her other selves and they portrayed this Pokemon-esque scene.
@AkeZZZ Noticed the style and immediately knew it was Pokemon, even has the Gameboy battery light, love it |

Shaft irl actually cracking an head or actually cutting hair, we've never been this back. Pretty Boy Detective Club was the last show that did that and it's fucking insane when they used to that regularly. |

Thanks for the explanation. This is the first time I watching the TV broadcast version.
So, I'm really waiting for the opening but it hasn't been released yet... but I believe it will definitely be included among the episodes of this arc ^^
@MuNaRi Additionally, the last 3 episodes of Bakemonogatari also didn't air on TV. They were originally released as ONAs only I believe. Something similar might happen again with Off Season & Monster Season where some episodes would be excluded in the TV broadcast version (which is what's currently airing) in favor of giving them a separate release on Blu-ray or something else. I kinda wish they didn't do this again. I wouldn't mind waiting a bit longer if it meant all episodes could've been released normally. |

The entire scene from the bicycle incident between Nadeko and Ougi reminded me a lot the beginning of Kabukimonogatari ep. 2, when Koyomi and Shinobu were exploring around and met the Araragi kid version, while "Magaimono Sonomono Onna" was playing in the background. I really liked that scene. And... what can I say about the whole episode. I consider myself a fan of Shaft, but I can't avoid my thoughts about they can't do anything better in order to improve their animation art, because they're already at the peak of animation and storytelling. However, this episode showed me I'm wrong. And I'm so glad for that. |
