Yoka's escorted train ride with Poison Pontaro makes its departure, stranding Shizuru and the girls in her pseudo-Ikebukuro. But thanks to Kuroki, they have a chance of using their train to chase her down with the all-important button, even as the former truly wonders of what she makes her life out to be. The girls deciphering that it's not they who have to press the 7G button, but Yoka, it becomes an epic battle on the tracks where everything makes a significant difference: the zombies, even the antagonists from prior episodes. And upon them reaching close to Pontaro's train, despite his persistence, it is Pochi that makes a stand to remember his original mission to protect Yoka as she represents pseudo-Ikebukuro, and Pontaro just got yeeted out of the train like that, so out-of-pocket.

Talking things over, Shizuru tries to talk her way to Yoka, though once again like before, she doesn't have a way with words, and ends up being hit by Yoka for all the wrong that she did to her. And as the other girls attempt to correct Yoka as well, it clearly got over to her head that as much as she wants things her way, it's also not bad for life to be unpredictable, as much as the myrtle tree represent stars in her sight. In retrospect, it's the FOMO fear for Yoka not being able to embrace changes, which Shizuru and the girls wholeheartedly stand by her. Aside from the fact that the old man saved Yoka's life before Pontaro could stop her in a rush, pressing the button does indeed turn the world back to normal. Kuroki is still being branded as a queen, now for the humans, and the girls head back to Agano with their Apogee train.

What Was Normal Again? NOTHING. Even in the finale, everything is unpredictable, until the final message comes close.

But really, this is one hell of a work from the masterminds of director Tsutomu Mizushima and series composer Michiko Yokote. Nothing beats Shuumatsu Train in terms of WTF, but I'm glad to have embarked on this train ride from start to finish.

My certified Anime of the Season, BAR NONE.

I find it kinda amusing that after all this time, they have to catch a train after riding them for so long in this show. Then again, it is what they need to do bring the world back to normal.

We got action, drama, emotions, and all in all, an entertaining finale imo. Shizuru and the group really worked together to overcome the odds.

Well, first i was intrigued with the weird of this show, because when you combine the weird with an anime, sometimes a good things comes out of it ...

But here they went a little bit too weird, so much so some things felt just odd .. or with no point ... and seeing the news as they were finishing some episodes four days before the air date, im not even surprised.

Now, not gonna say this wasn't good, but it was kinda just meh with everything towards the end ...

This series wasn't too bad, I think the mystery behind Youka was downplayed a lot and felt like a chore after we saw all the development through the 4 girls during their journey. Ep was probably one of the blander ones too.

The start and the whole premise was great, that's no lie, it's everything after that left a bad taste in my mouth ngl. Can tell why they took that break last week due to "production issues", it's because they couldn't figure out how to end this show off lol.

Ending was about what I expected and wasn't the worse, so for that I wouldn't mind going for a low 7 on this one. The weirdness aspect of this show was definitely what carried it imo.

Weirdest anime i have seen in a while but interesting because of that.
We knew they would save Youko but i didn't expect the world to be different from the original at least the girls have something to look forward to discovering new things.
It was a fun ride and it was nice to watch.

I liked the weirdness and the show was refreshing at some aspects, but it rarely blew me away like I hoped. I'm still gonna miss the girls and especially the soundtrack which made it a fun journey to follow.

Unfortunately, a big surprise of the season ended, this episode was tense and exciting, everything in the right way, first the battle until reaching the meeting with Yoka until the fake Pochi helping our girls managed to beat the idiot and then we had to convince Yoka that she still had sad and resentful emotions against Shizuru Chan to the point where Yoka just doesn't kill her due to the girls separating and helps Yoka accept forgiveness for her friend's unhappy statements, now the scene of her remembering her childhood in flashbacks and the star of the promise of two it was beautiful and in the end everything worked out Yoka and the world is back to normal or almost so, what an incredible anime I loved it so much

Well, that was a fun weird little anime, all things considered. Well, extremely weird anime.
The finale was pretty normal in comparison. It is kind of stupid, imo they didn't show the repercussions and the reactions of everyone in the world in returning back to normal, like a nice little aftermath narration one would expect

For me this was truly the dark horse of the season. It came out of nowhere and it charmed us with it's very creative settings and loveable characters.

This whole finale almost felt like a short movie based on the cinematography and the elaboration to tie up all elements previously presented (Kuroki and her legion of zombies, Prof Makoto & Zenjiro's guidance, Fake Pochi's resolution, Yoka's internal angst) to solve the main problem that was presented since episode 1. I'm also glad that pressing the button didn't just reset everything back to normal, but just evolved their world into something different.

I really don't read manga (too much of a hassle) but I'll wait a year or so to actually pick up this one, I seriously want to see if the original author has more of this creativity under their sleeve left for an after story.

Really hope this puts EMT2 studios on the spot for even bigger projects in the near future.

wow, i seriously cant believe its over. i really enjoyed this show, even if the ending isnt exactly what i expected. but youka's back and shizuru apologised, and thats whats most important, i think. and the world being not exactly back to normal is probably the best way it couldve gone. i mean, if something gets messed up so terribly it cant go back to how it was before, but it can still change and become better, even if somethings feel off. or something like that mannn i shouldnt try be philosophical when i just woke up and lack braincells lol

Pretty good overall. The ep start with the crazy action was really fun. The emotional part was never gonna suffice with how little build up it had, but it was still decent and didn't drag much helped by some over the top visual direction.

Zombies In space man what an anime is all I can say. Call it whatever you want, but you’ll never call this show generic. Never a dull moment in this show. This finale really summed the show up. Don’t even know how to describe that final fight scene other than an experience.

This really is a show you just have to watch to fully appreciate, any sort of description is just gonna let you down. Like dude, how is the train riding in the void of space lmao. I’m gonna miss this blowing my mind on Mondays.

Although I would’ve liked to have seen more of the stops en route to Ikebukuro explored, the journey was well worth it because that was such a nice proper make up scene with Yoka and Shizuru. Shizuru was an asshole, fully accepts blame for it and the girls can finally move forward. One thing I really loved in this anime was how unfiltered the dialogue between the girls felt. Script writers really did a good job making it feel real.

With 7G gone, Tokyo looks.. mainly back to normal? But I like the twist of “what did normal even look like” I guess normal is just what we make of it and accept. Apogee is a very fitting name for the train too. Shizuru and the girls were at their furthest from Yoka, it’s only closer from here 🙏🏾

I’ll miss this show bunches

What a fucking show. All this to celebrate the anniversary of a train line. I had a lot fun from start to finish. I know some are mad at it being a speedrun but this didn't feel like one for me but do agree with some of the odd writing choices not working.

I can't argue this wasn't a good conclusion though. This was the proper ending. The world isn't fully back but is a different kind of world. It's not alternate universe...shocked that was even mentioned.

I like how Shizuru's real thoughts were slipping out even when she was apologizing. Just made the whole thing seem more genuine.. and so Yoka's attempts to strangle her out of anger lol. But yeah, things becoming normal was the most ideal end.. if this is what normal is.

Though, the show in itself has been a ride(no pun intended). I'm not sure when was the last time I saw something this outrageously weird lol. You could feel how fun it'd have been even for those making it. We need more of such shows.

Youka's back to normal after her friends brought her back to her senses. She let it off to Shizuru too. I just realised watching this episode but Yoka's pretty thicc actually. The world's also semi back to normal. Agano people are now hybrid animals and Makoto sensei became a giant lol. Good to see Kuroki will be still with her gang. Also that pochi guy was a bird. I don't know if the new effects are permanent or things will go back to normal eventually but it's better than before.

The entire thing was one bizzare ride. Enjoyable stuff at times and other times it was okay. Except for being bizzare it didn't really have much going for it.

第12話 いつもって何だっけ?
Episode 12: What Was Normal Again?

Aww, 47 got eaten by a lily pad after Pochi-san came in clutch, but at least that's one of the antagonists taken care of for the moment so I can't really complain. And honestly though, I'm surprised it took the girls this long to figure out that it has to be Yōka to press the button in order to revert 7G's effects. I would've thought Akira would be the first one to notice instead of Nadeshiko, but I guess I'd also be the same if I wasn't an omniscient observer who had all the pieces.

On the flip side, I think I can understand now why the production team needed an extra week before releasing this final episode: the train animations speeding down the track for the entire chase sequence were an absolute delight, even providing some realistic sound effects of the train grinding the rails when rounding bends. The armored carriage was also pretty nicely animated for those couple scenes until the turret guns shot themselves–something I wouldn't expect less of Pontaro.

The reconciliation scene between Shizuru and Yōka was produced rather nicely, but I'd say it isn't anything too special as it is just two characters reconciling both with each other and their past. And after all this waiting, the button is pushed off only after Pontaro reappears after getting the retribution he deserves when 47 came in clutch during their scuffle with Agano jiu-jitsu. I digress, how he was able to come back from what is seemingly a void we will never know, but at least that's a good thing as he ironically turns into the one thing he turned his enemies into: a cup of egg custard. But back to the story at hand, at least everything is gradually starting to return to normal with some residual effects from 7G–funny how the zombies retained their allegiance to Kuroki even after turning human again–or maybe the world has turned into an alternate reality as Akira said. Whatever the case is, the main conflict is resolved and all that's left is returning to Agano.

Dare I say it, this was one hell of a train ride from start to finish. I thoroughly enjoyed this show, all for its cast of characters, the plot, but most especially the usage of trains as its highlight. Each station passed through had its own identity and wacky situations, but it was unfortunate that that we weren't able to cover all the stations in detail. And with this being an anime original in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Japan's first railway in 2022, not being able to read a manga or LN before each episode heightened the intrigue in waiting for each episode–I'm not a big manga reader, but I would've probably read ahead if a manga had existed. It was a banger show overall that I'd want to rewatch at a later date, and though I'm not expecting there to be a second season, that or any new media based off this anime would be welcome.

What a lovely way to send off the series, by having not only a video game esche final confrontation against Pontaro, having Pochi's and "Pochi"'s help to stop him and finally setting down the arguement between Yoka and Shizuru in a very sweet manner. Not only were the zombies useful but even the weird goose guy made a last minute appearance to help them by accident.

In this new world things have certainly changed and there is a lot to do for it to go back to normal but overall it's as good of a final episode as we could have gotten considering how messy the concept was. Hearing the explanation for why Shizuru named the train apogee was heartwarming and made me feel that the journey was really worth, mixing bizarre scenario with quantum physics lingo. Only one question remained: where did that crow come from?

Damn, those zombies are so useful. All hail the queen!

The old man coming out of nowhere to save the world lol.

Huh... so the world returned to normal but not that normal. I don't know how I feel about that but it's interesting for sure.

Man, I really liked the reconciliation with Yoka. It left me pretty satisfied and happy.

Anyway, I guess that's it. This was a show I expected to like and it captivated me from the very first episode. Absurd, chaotic, weird, charming, it was such a fun ride from start to finish. I'm going to miss these girls so much.

I'm gonna miss the OP and ED too, both were so good.

If there's anything else I would have wished for about this finale it's a bit more of the epilogue but oh well, 10/10 for me, one of my favorite shows of the season. Wish there was more, even the return trip could be its own series but now with Yoka.

Giving Pontarou one final attack after he was definitely thrown into the wide abyss was so unbelievable stupid and unnecessary. And then that random wanderer being the one preventing it out of nowhere was just to much. This Deus Ex Machina was really hard to swallow.

It's the bodyguard Pochi. You can tell when the world turn back to normal.

This episode wants to say that the world keeps changing, there might be something that cannot be completely returned to normal. The mistakes or trauma are already made, and it might have permanent influence to you, you won't forget it. Yet, time will slowly make these negative feelings fade away, as long as you're experiencing new things. People also change, they might finally realize they did the wrong things someday. So, don't be trapped in the past. "It's better to try and have regrets than not do anything at all."

Not really surprising - GBC wasnt licensed up by any major streaming service, and Shuumatsu Train Doko e Iku? is an original anime, so it's natural that they have smaller audiences.

Super impressed how action-packed and drama-filled the finale was, and still stuck the landing.

It didn't elevate the show to new heights or anything, but it somehow said what it wanted to say, even in the middle of all this craziness.

It felt surprisingly sobering when Youka pointed out how annoying and selfish Shizuru was, and how afraid Youka was of going back.

We need more anime like this. Even if it doesn't always work, the anime was fearless and allowed the creators to "fool around" and spread their wings.

This ended up being a mostly interesting (train) ride although I thought the ending fell a bit flat as this final episode wasn't as exciting or interesting as previous episodes. Also, while the world seemed to mostly go back to how it was before it is a bit different with some people not quite back to normal but it implied that over time they might as Zenjiro could communicate for a longer period of time than before. 7/10

That ending is more open to the point it's like a cliffhanger than I was expecting and they can still make continuation out of this if they want to.

If they add one more episode then I think it'll conclude perfectly but with this? There are more possibilities.

But yeah, this is a hella good show, just as expected of Tsutomu Mizushima.

They simultaneously managed to fix their world in the final episode and make it as surreal as the entire show before it. I'm still freaked out by the "remnants" of 7G magic and the strange hints of parallel universes and new changes in their world, but at least it doesn't look like a fever dream anymore. The CGDCT version of Evangelion saved this world from the consequences of a teenage quarrel between two schoolgirls.

A solid 7 out of 10, this was also the thousandth TV show I've watched. Applause.

@Softhenic03 I also liked how realistic the show was in its portrayal of teenage psychology despite the overall surreal plot. The conflict between them was well understood even after the first flashback and the ending developed this well.
