This turned out to be one of the more dangerous adversaries Kenshin has faced so far in this show.

A murderer with an ominous intent...even if he realizes the risks. On another note, it's great to see Sagara Sanosuke really being part of the team.

Their era is “peaceful” just in name for newspapers articles or for books they’d have kids go through in coming years… the reality is far, faaaaar from it. I mean people are publicly stating that they’d target some wealthy politician and you are to your means to stop them, if you can… and that person was mister psychotic Udo Jin-e.

Like Kenshin he’s another manslayer, but he takes that status literally, I mean for someone who takes fun in killing and slicing people, a mansion full with so-called fighters who in attempt to make a name for themselves and partly because of the money they were paid to protect the politician, when started attacking Jin-e left and right, it makes sense why he was grinning so brightly. Using shin-no ippo and paralysing his opponents, he quite literally slaughtered the bunch there until Kenshin stepped in and stopped.

Though like Kenshin’s previous opponents, he too wasn’t quite satisfied with Kenshin’s new persona, and might have left that time but… but made quite an appearance in the end and did something outrageous.. kidnapping Kaoru. Worked as a great cliffhanger btw.

Sano already learning to use Kenshin as a shield from Kaoru's rage i see. Hillarious that the lackeys that the VIP hired were all idiots that Sano had beaten in the past. Shin No Ippo sure sounds like gravity magic if this was a fantasy world. The fact that Kurogasa was part of the feared Shinsengumi didn't surprise me in the least. More than anything what Kaoru fears the most is Kenshin leaving her. Damm what a entrance/exit from Jine at the end though that ended up creating one hell of a cliffhanger as well.

With the main cast assembled we can get into some crazy fights this series has. Starting off with Kurogasa the maniac attacking imperialists who have prospered in the new government. Kenshin even heard a rumor about this swordman back in the old days. Kurogasa has a crazy aura attack unleashing his spiritual energy that immobilized anyone nearby. Cutting down even the gun welding police like its nothing before they could fire a single shot. Kenshin and Sanosuke both going to help defend Kurogasa next target, another imperialist turned wealthy businessman. The dude hired some other swordman to guard him but naturally they're no match for Kurogasa spirit pressure attack. Kenshin and barely Sanosuke could break out of it. Kenshin doing his best to keep Kurogasa at bay but the criminal gets away. Becoming the next target in the process. Kenshin trying to be noble and face him alone at the riverbank. Kaoru getting mad and storming over there was actually very cute. She's definitely grown feelings for Kenshin and is worried he will leave her like so many others in her life. Kenshin feeling her angry aura and thinking it waa Kurogasa made me laugh too. But it turns out he wasn't far away swooping in to snatch Kaoru away to lure Kenshin into becoming his old self.

The utilization of the Shin No Ippo technique seems to be primarily rooted in imitation, raising concerns about its effectiveness. The unsettling aspect is that Kurogasa possesses knowledge of this technique, potentially rendering many individuals defenseless in a confrontation against him. While Kenshin appears unfazed by the technique, the momentary immobilization of Sanosuke serves as a telling indication of the formidable challenge that Kurogasa presents.

The emotional backdrop of Kaoru's losses lends understanding to her vehement reluctance in allowing Kenshin to depart. Her profound attachment and the scars of her past losses serve as a compelling rationale for her stance. However, the narrative takes an unexpected turn as Kurogasa begins to tail Kaoru, culminating in a skillfully executed kidnapping sequence. The impending clash of ideologies and abilities between Kenshin and Kurogasa heightens the intrigue and leaves the viewer eagerly awaiting the next installment.

On the surface it may seem like Kaoru was stupid for going to the river, which she was kind of, but it would’ve been even worse if she stayed at home because Jine was there scoping the place out and no one would’ve been able to stop him.

Jine’s ability is crazy OP. Can’t wait to see how things turn out next week. The studio been doing such a good job of keeping that 90s anime feel going in these episodes. Just feels like a blast from the past

This was fine, maybe lacked a bit of tension but pacing was fine and the cliffhanger was nice, even if predictable. Jin-e definitely feels like a 90s villain lol.

This was an intense episode, this is one of the first times in this show where the villain felt like a major threat imo, this Jine Kurogasa guy is an absolute menace with his paralysis skill, I liked the explanation for how it works too, it’s one of those grounded in reality but definitely not real kinda powers which are fun lol. The initial fight with him was short lived but it was damn good, it felt like anyone in the room could die despite it being early in the show still.

We got a few comedic scenes with Kaoru too, I loved when Sanosuke stretched her face while she was asleep, and then later when her aura was so threatening that Kenshin initially thought she was Jine lol. And Kaoru may seem stupid for going to Kenshin, but really staying at the dojo was also a bad idea so I can’t fault her too much, but damn when Jine first showed up and grabbed her I actually got jumpscared lol, he has the creepy factor down for sure. Really looking forward to see how Kenshin saves Kaoru next time!

Lmao Sugita was the perfect pick for Jin-e. He really nails the creepy feel of him. I love this arc of the story so much.

At last Soma-kun shows a bit of frantic and angry Kenshin and we even see his pupils dilate. The ribbon hand-off scene was really nice way to end it, very precious.

Jine is bad news. The guy is legitimately a murderer and very good at it too. No surprise he switched his target to Kenshin.

Kaoru is 10 kinds of dumb for providing Jine with a hostage (according to plan). But I guess Jine was listening at the Dojo (there's a laugh from beyond the wall at the end) so he already knew she means something to Kenshin, and she would have gotten kidnapped one way or another.

Next episode - ye old obligatory "rescue the helpless damsel in distress" honestly it's no wonder her dojo is going bankrupt from lack of students (needing to sell paintings to get food) if this is the extent of her sword fighting abilities, which TBH we haven't seen much of her doing anything good with her skills ... in 6 episodes.

Jine kidnapping Kaoru in style, dude has class. Kenshin ain't happy though, he better go and save her fast. Kaoru's feelings for Kenshin is strong, that was so sweet of her trying to make sure Kenshin stays with her. Kenshin mistaking Kaoru for Jine was hilarious though.

Shin no Ippo is supposed to be somekind of a hypnosis ability, like when some malicious stranger tapped you on the shoulder somewhere in the middle of the street, and the next thing you know you have smh unconciously took an amount from the ATM to give to that person. It's a BS kind of ability, and you'll find more BS abilities further in the series, but none of them are actually supernatural. They're all based on IRL phenomenons (from magicians slight of hand to cirque du soleil) just with heavy exagerations.

I kinda find Jine funny, he felt/sounds more like a weirdo than bloodthristy murderer and that last scene where he kidnapped Kaoru right in front of Kenshin (which I'm wondering how the hell did he not see him coming) is freaking hilarious it's almost like a comedy skit lol

But on the next episode we gonna see a less funny side of him and Kenshin being personal

Sanosuke waking up Kaoru lol
All the punks the big guy hired are scared as the street fighter that whooped their asses before and a legendary ex-assassin enter. That Sanosuke struggles against his skill is a testament to his own spirit, second to Kenshin (or third, as Yahiko would say haha). Injuring his arm to protect his client.
Jin-e was an intriguing antagonist in Origins. He manages to bring out the Hitokiri Battousai in Kenshin.
Kaoru won't let Kenshin run off even if he wins, giving him a token to remember her by felt like an omen in retrospect as he is the one who must find her (and Jin-e), not the opposite. The anger is there in his eyes.

I was curious about how they would address Kaoru's kidnapping, especially with Jin-eh passing by. When I read it in the manga, it's not hard to go along with the story, even if it's a bit unrealistic. However, in the anime, it felt a bit silly when it happened. But then, having Kenshin mention that the river was swollen due to a storm made it somewhat more believable.

Ah Sugita indeed doing a fine job with Kurogasa, he makes me wheeze hard with that eheem sounds lol

Well, anyway, he's also hitokiri and a part of Shinsengumi on the past even though immediately quit the job cause he's a pure menslayer. Slaying a rotten pig like Mr. Tani is fine, Sugita, but not with the bastard way to kidnap Kaoru to fulfill your wish against Kenshin. Smh. Not cool.

Wishing for Kenshin to not just arrest him but slap his ass hard enough because i like Sugita cracking a nasty voice by that...

IMO this Jine is way more menacing than the previous version, mostly because Sugita's Voice Acting gave him that creepy threatening vibe, no matter what he said.

Me too! I think this is the best episode so far, in my view. They adapt very well the manga (it's pratically equal), and added some comic from the old anime, which I loved. The action scene worked very well too.
The scene of Kaoru and Kenshin is one of my favorites, and the next episode has everything to be one of the best.
