It looks like Kaina and Liliha are getting to know each other in this harsh environment.

Somehow, this episode turned slightly comical thanks to Kaina's sensitiveness. Getting deeper into that abyss, I thought the episode drew its survivals themes well. They made the world look desolate and anything can happen. Seems pacing slowed down this episode though.

Hidden gem of the season back with a new ep.

Ah yes the obligatory piss scene, this is literally made in abyss with Yamamoto instead of Penkin lmaoo.

In all seriousness Kaina and Liliha sleeping on the edge of that cliff had me so anxious, one toss or turn and you’re done lmao.

Seems like they both have had somewhat similar backstories, lost parents, trapped and kinda craving adventure. Really a perfect match. As for the sage, I’m wondering if he was just a regular person/AI from normal human society since reading tablets are “from his time” I don’t think 11 episodes is gonna be enough to answer all these questions/get Liliha home. I know a movie’s been confirmed so that’s exciting.

The Valghians' appearances so far have had a boring "faceless henchmen of absolute evil" air to them, but the writing has been so solid that I'm confident they'll turn out to be some kind of actual fleshed-out people with understandable motives.

Wow, so many plot holes. This was essentially episode about nothing. They climbed down, she took a piss, they ran into some people and jumped into water. That's it. But they are somehow trying to build romance out of it.

Writing was anything but solid. They keep doing illogical things just to push the narrative. They go down tube-like cave but are somehow seen on the side. Floater stands behind them in the midair, but once they jump on it it starts moving up and away. He says 30 days to climb down, then she gets better it's 3 days and they end up touching the ground day after. Floater is moving them away but they decide to jump into the sea for some reason and then episode ends. Also let's not talk about the fact villains shot arrow at his feet but when they jumped on floater none of them got the idea to shoot the floater itself or are we to believe they each had only one arrow.

And the whole absolute evil or absolute good trope is annoying. There's nothing to explain or justify why they are doing all of this.

Ririha and Kaina's journey down is full of a treacherous landscape, but the Valghians are still pretty much a mystery. That said, if they can pick up the pace, they will reach faster than the usual. Some life-sharing between the two of parents lost to circumstances, the same Wise Man sage story that is just a myth more than a legend, personal family stories with similar findings, as they sleep together in the small cliff.

After a stint of Ririha taking a piss and Kaina almost losing his life from the embarrassment, they reach the lower depths of bugs apparent while both Atland and Valghian sides attempt to locate them. The Great Snow Sea is in sight, but seeing both Atland and Valghian soldiers pursue them both on the spire tree, this is new for Kaina adapting to the situation and crossing the Snow Sea.

A whole lotta slow, but there is progress.

This show really is a hidden gem for this season!!

The world is beautiful as well as the animation.

There were a few moments between the two that I kinda liked when they were climbing down.

Kaina and Liliha are finally at the bottom and well seems like were gonna get a bit of conflict to start the next episode.

I would like to know how many days it took. He said 30 at the start so they sped up but surely it was still like half a month right?

Another great episode! lol

A bit disappointed as there's not much to see when they're going down from the Canopy and it ended too short to enjoy more from their rappelling (dunno if I used the term correctly).

I'm quite curious about the "Light" they're talking about earlier since the first episode. Their travel was really too short and it should be a long one, too many things to point out but it was also a cute episode.
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

The world building is amaizing, the visuals and the animations is great. Even the characters are interesting, Kaina is cute and you want him to have adventures since his present goal is to know more about his world. I bet this anime is going to be great although its starting slow.

Staying for the world-building and the friendship through adversity of Kaina and Ririha. It is something I haven't seen ad infinitum. As a fan of Frostpunk and Lost Planet this world has me intrigued.

Far too much cynicism going on lol, the tube like cave obviously had holes of space throughout the walls, which is why they were spotted, it's as simple as that.

We don't know much about floaters as far as I'm aware, but it seems they have some sort of buoyancy effect going on, as shown previously when the floater with the princess headed straight up when she went on it.

30 days was a throwaway statement, barely passing as an estimate, as he takes her skill level into consideration. Trivial. She gets better quickly and the time is reduced significantly, go figure.

They jump into the sea, so they can be quickly picked up by their allies, and not drift further away.

The "villain's" were told to capture them by that commander, or at least that's what was implied in that talk between those two on the ship. The arrow could be seen as a warning sign, the lack of shooting arrows could be seen as not being allowed to kill or grievously injure them, at least the princess.

And we know next to nothing about the two nations, so to assume the good and evil tropes this early on is ridiculous. Pretty much everything you complained about, could be explained away or is so trivial in detail.

Didn't they say they are reusing rope because they don't have one long enough, so my question is how are they reusing it if they stuck it in the tree, because I only seen them adding more?

They are using a technique called "rappelling" - look more carefully and you will see that they are seemingly using two ropes. Actually this is one looped rope.
When you reach some suitable place, you pull one of the ends and un-loop it. Then you make a new support point an loop the rope again.
This is how you recycle it again and again.

Pretty nice episode imo

Kaina continues their journey down the tree and we get to see the two factions from the first episode searching for them, which leads to Kaina and the princess fleeing until they jump onto a floater to escape. We get a bit more worldbuilding here and even a bit of backstory for the princess and that weird thing they both saw, pretty cool stuff!

Also, little side note, I like how we even got to see how they handle their uhh... Bathroom situation. Because yes, it would be kinda hard to believe they just held it in all that time they spent going down the tree. It's small and some might roll their eyes at it but idk I kinda liked it

Loving this so far :D

The use of colored graphics to give history and to move the story is well done.

I love how relationships and bonds grow in a harsh environment … very realist my early adult years in a rural Alaska setting … if you can learn to survive and care in this type of harshness you will always be together.

Note that Liliha’s “light” spirit??? Is magical and moving.

Note, also, that Takahashi-sensi brings real life to Liliha!

And, the created world is visually, amazingly beautiful 👍😀

Episode was kind of slow until towards the end. The relationship between Liliha and Kaina is slowly starting to build as she called him by his name. I wonder if the "Light" is like a guardian spirit or something (or maybe what's left of the sage? who knows).

Looks like they will get rescued (hopefully) and I'm curious to see how Liliha's village is like.

I am astounded that Ooyukiumi no Kaina does not have a much higher MAL rating:

  • fantastic world
  • great MC characters
  • OP to die for by Yorushika
  • Takahashi voicing for Liliha is grabs you (or at least me)

Ririha sure is not used to climbing trees
LOL 30 days to reach the bottom? really?

there was some kind of heartquake so a tree branch fell and almost hit them
Ririha getting used to the climb, but as usual, when you feel confident, you make a mistake LOL she hit her face into the tree
btw do they not use the bathroom? lols
well, that's quite a drop, i guess she is going a lot faster now, but only 3 more days till they reach the bottom

all their parents, apart from her father (the king), are already dead since they were young, sadness

more stories about the sage and the world
lol sleeping so close, how cute

rip that running animal, it just wanted to find its owner

LOL i guess ririha still needed to do human things, and ofc Kaina had to turn back and get punched

humans and bugs are similar, they both want to survive
or so Kaina says, while eating a bug alive :D

LOL Ririha called Kaina's name and then got embarrassed (but happy), the usual, guess even in that worls, they are the same :D

oh damn, the guys from the surface already noticed them and are waiting for them to come down, that can't be good

after how cold they were the day before, now they are getting hot, so Ririha took off that big coat, and is feeling a lot lighter lol (i mean, she is close to the place she is used to, probably the temperature there is a lot different from the top ... but then again, the surface is frozen while the top isn't... i'm confused

they got surrounded by those bad guys but ended up jumping to the sea, trying to join their own soldiers, things aren't looking good, their side is heavily outnumbered lol
let's see what happens next

This anime has some really nice world building and I really enjoy the interactions between the two leads. I’m hoping for some romance between the two of them later in the season lmao.

Are a lot of people not watching this because of the the CG or something? It’s had a pretty good start in my opinion. Definitely underrated this season

So many people nowadays are used to breakneck speed storytelling. You can no longer set a mood to a world before explaining it's details without getting people calling it trash. And for a storyteller like Nihei who works so much by ambiance and mood, that just mean being in the MAL doldrums scorewise. Specially when almost all your works get adapted with a heavy dose of CGI

This was quite a watch for someone who hates heights. One of the tree spires collapsing in the distance near the start of the episode was especially ominous. Kaina and Ririha's interactions were far more engaging in this episode too, especially wish the dash of humour sprinkled on top.

I noticed when one of the injured steeds was mercy killed, it's body was sent to "Toa", some sort of realm for the departed. Curious to know more about it.
