This anime is going by a steady pace and it shows that Shinpei is confused yet also feeling a lot of emotions upon seeing Ushio again.

Episode also captures the elements of despair that has been a recurring element in the show. I want to see Ushio get more screen time from now on since she and Shinpei obviously has a chemistry especially in this episode. On a humorous note, I can't take that mask thing seriously. Looks like a meme.

And she was supposed to be dead… good for Shinpei though, seems like both sisters have hots for him. Not so good for that dude on the other hand, nevertheless Ushio felt like a fun character to be around. But again it was all fun until shadow Mio made her appearance, and things went totally south after that, quite brutally too.

Ending it on a cliffhanger again, it’s just evil at this point. Curious to see what that glasses lady's up to.

Man it was an amazing episode. Where Ushio came from, how is she alive and why was she wearing a swimsuit is still a mystery. Lol.

At first I was scared for a min, I thought Mio was the shadow, like how she shouted but even worse, it was Shinpei's shadow.

Amazing episode. 5/5.
Gonna start the manga soon.

Nah it’s still good rn idk why they rated it a 1. This ep was one of the ones I was most looking forward to tbh, and the next one. They’re doing a pretty good job at adapting the manga still so I’m happy. Easy 5/5 for me.

I can see why some people would hate this ep. The way the tone of the first half of the episode was taken so lightly would probably turn off some people, and the way they portrayed the reunion so casually would probbaly irritate some people. But I personally liked this episode. It gave me that same feeling when I first watched episode 1 and the overall tone of the show shifted on the second half of the ep, putting me on the edge of my seat.

Yeah but I've these 1's every time a new episode drops and usually they score it also as soon as a thread is created. Last ep, I saw about 5 people giving 1's immediately (might be the same people) when the thread dropped so I'm suspicious if whether they really watch the show or not as subs were not out yet. However, everyone has different taste, can't argue with that

Episode was a 5/5 for me though. I enjoyed it very well and it felt fresh despite having already read it before. They undoubtedly elevated the staircase scene in the anime

Damn...now the Shadows know about the looping...that's not good!

There's a lot to dissect here - I initially believed that Ushio coming back was a complete illusion of the Shadows to try and lure Shinpei, but it seems like her relationship to the entire conflict is more complex. After all, the Shinpei Shadow maliciously grabbed her and looked like he was about to break her limbs, just like the Mio Shadow did to Shinpei's arm earlier. As for how Ushio herself factors in, we'll have to wait and see. At the very least, we can glean from what we saw this episode that her presence is not malevolent (or at least as much as we might have assumed in episode 3). As the Shinpei Shadow insinuated with his question, she never planned to switch with anyone.

And the entire sequence by the steps to the temple also gave us some much-needed information and twists. The fact that the Shadows have deduced the time-looping now means that one of Shinpei's primary ways of combatting them is now taken away. The Shadows now have every incentive to keep him alive since his death would just act as a hinderance to whatever plan they have with their "Mother" waking up soon.

And wow, the lady is back and packing heat! Things are definitely getting more thorny! For now, we press onward!

The real Mio is somehow involved, don't know how but since ep 1, I had a feeling, she knows more than she shows about the shadows, I suspect that she did some kind of deal with them to have Shinpe for herself, or a shadow of him, cuz is clear that she loves him

those are just speculation, I have not read any manga

this is a 10/10 episode bro from beginning to end, first of all glad that ushio appeared at last and her voice actress is poppin, second her adorable pout is deadly! jk but not,
anyways she been getting into trouble and acting rashly but her memory is all messed up and she thinks she’s the real ushio, the mask scene was very funny with her transformation as magical girl lol also i love mio’s reaction to seeing her it’s very logical, and then shinpei’s revelation bro, when i read the manga i was so hyped and the anime didn’t fail to deliver and his voice actor is doing a fantastic job with the shadow he legit gave me the creeps,

the visuals and animation is top tier and should be praised at all times because wow that scene in the end with shinpei and mio (without spoiling) was making me feel greatly on edge, villains should learn from shadow mio how to not waste time on chatting and instead directly attack the mc and be a whole ahh menace

i still didn’t recover from how great that scene is the animation was so dam good, i also love how shadows are capable of thinking rationally too, shadow shinpei is really scary man.
Glasses girl finally came to the rescue! she’s gonna be an interesting one, overall 10/10 episode i tell you, the first part felt good and lighthearted in a natural manner and second part was just epic

i hope this show will gain the popularity it deserves please

I think some interesting theories can come out of this episode of Summertime

For me and this might be a stretch but I think Ushio Is God. They mention that thing about stuff washing up onto shore, that being of a god and eventually turned to Ash. Well if the real Ushio did die, what if she became God in the process? I know it's a little out there but I feel like the story they told in this episode has to come into play somehow.

I think another possible theory which may be more likely is that False Ushio is Dead and Real Ushio is still alive.

Or False Ushio is the traitor. This one I feel wouldn't make sense because at the end even if she was a shadow she would have known Shinpei was a Shadow.

Really good Mystery so far.

Also shout out to Glasses with the save this episode.

If Ushio right there is a shadow, why she is said have exact Ushio personalities unlike other shadows which completely cruel? But turn out Shinpei is the real shadow one, and that shadow know how to make real Shinpei couldn't get into their way, love that this anime always give plot twists on almost every episode!

WOW was this episode packed with stuff or what. So many things happen in 20 minutes that you could almost write a whole essay on it. First of all, I theorized correctly when I thought that Ushio wasn't going to be a shadow nor a human but something in between. By this I don't mean that i'm discarding she could be one of them, but saying that if she is, she's not going to be in the "typical" way. She doesn't seem evil so at the very least she's not like the other shadows that are if she is one, or she is evil and there's going to be a big plot twist later, and she can also be a human for all we know and somehow transferred her thoughts.

Another thing that came out of nowhere was the confession, which given the circumstance Shinpei was in I don't blame him for how he reacted. Of course it's not like we all didn't already know that they both liked each other, or at least theorized given the info of the last episodes. I almost forgot that there was actually a second one, Sou confessing to Mio. Not surprising the result but it could be a hint of how the couples may end. Also, if I remembered correctly I think it was implied or directly stated by Mio's shadow that there's some sort of upper boss, or a shadow that is the leader, so that's interesting.

Finally, given the situation Shinpei was in the at the latter part of the episode, the best way to avoid the whole ordeal was to die, so I guess the shadows did the correct thing by not allowing him to do that, although it didn't seem Shinpei wanted to die even if it was the "correct" thing to do in that situation. Well I guess is not surprising as dying must really take a toll on you.

There is no fucking way this is the real Ushio, she literally appeared out of the fucking nowhere and it's very terrifying that she lost a bit of memory but gradually recalls it heh, hopefully, she can regain it, also that confession, I'm surprised that I didn't feel a single embarrassment but find it funny instead because of the dialog they're using lmao. I like how Ushio is just going inside the festival knowing she's literally dead wearing that swimsuit of hers and SHADOW MIO LOOKING at the chopped octopus and then disappearing once Ushio and Shinpei were going around the festival, truly suspicious. Along the way Shinpei talked to perhaps shadow Ushio that'll get a headstart and with her blunt action, she started to call Mio wtf.

Shinpei went back to Mio and her friends and watched the fireplace, everyone is still thinking about Ushio :( and my man Sou really confessed to Mio this quick lmaooo, really find it funny especially Kensho Ono voicing him lmao, and oml Ushio interfered with the confession with a mask, baka Ushio! She eventually revealed her mask to everyone and of çourse, no one can't trust her BUT THAT TWIST and a prior event happened where there a prior event where Shadow Mio appeared in front and killed him, Shadow Mio knew that he recorded her yikes and there is a copy of Shinpei's shadow. I got almost goosebumps when Mio nearly killed Shinpei but thankfully Hizuru shoots Shadow Mio's head, she'll definitely going to play an interesting role as the story progresses. I'm hoping by the end of the day I can watch the uncensored version because I know things are about to get REAL gruesome.

Also Hizuru is looking so fine mhm mhm

We resume at the part where Shinpei sees Ushio in the water. But she somehow doesn’t seem to realize that she is dead, and likely a shadow. Was Ushio special like Shinpei? And she doesn’t seem to want to kill either. It seems Shadow Ushio is an anomaly… an irregularity… a misfit… a deviant… or whatever from the Shadow Kingdom. Also, I gotta say, Ushio takes being dead very well.

Love confessions left and right. Hooo. But sadly, let’s be honest, we already knew that Mio loved Shinpei. But what’s surprising is that

That plot twists tho. Did not expect it one bit. I always thought since the last episode that the shadow would be the blond-hair dude.

Shadows seem to be hella strong and have some type of teleportation ability. It’s likely teleportation with range limit and not super-speed since
It also makes me wonder what other kinds of ability shadows have.
It seems the shadows knew beforehand about a looping ability but didn’t know that Shinpei had it

If he can return to the 22nd with his memories intact, then one day he will without a doubt become a hindrance to us. So don’t kill him. Not until everything’s finished. From that we can infer that even if shadows are aware of Shinpei’s looping ability, they can’t remember it.
“Until everything is finished.” So the shadows are planning something with
From that, we can infer that if they finish their plan, Shinpei’s looping ability will be so little that it wouldn’t affect much. As we saw in the second episode where his return point had decreased?, the “time range” of his looping will be so insignificant that nothing will be able to change. OR maybe if
emerges, that would be an Absolute Point in Time where he won't be able to go back past that.

It seems shadows are sorta like zombies, and you can kill them, probably the only way, if you not only shoot at their head but blow it off. Maybe they could be like titans, where the brain is disconnected from the rest of the body, making that they can’t generate. Seeing that Mio could still move after getting a clean shot to the head, I assume that the only way to kill shadows will be to sever the head from the body so they can’t regenerate and die. Seeing that Mio took the first shot without flinching, we can also assume that shadows don’t feel pain.

It's just a theory for now. But the fact that the Shinpei Shadow seemed to take issue with what she was doing indicates that Ushio is either not doing what she said she would, or perhaps has an ulterior motive.

Damn, this was some episode!

First half with Shin and Ushio was entertaining to watch and, at the same time, I felt like a jump-scare was coming but thankfully, that wasn't meant to be. Man, silly of me to think that a happy ending was going to be in store for us when Ushio appeared with that hilarious mask. Y'know, I couldn't help but smile a little. Once Mio snapped though, something felt wrong...

And that feeling, the second half nailed it and more! I'm a sucker for "Hold up, here's what happened 10 minutes earlier though." moments in this of series. But little did I expect it to transpire the way it did. Imagine Shadow Shin finding out everything in the form of Shin. Wild, innit? All those happy moments instantly vanished the moment he appeared. Gee, Shin's arm though. Display of inhumane strength indeed. Freakin' finally the lady shows up. No idea what she rambling on about but it seems Shin's survived a bunch of torture for now and that's obviously great news.

Mother waking up soon? Well, no clue. On another note, Ushio? Is this her real version and the one buried the Shadow? Also, we've only seen two shadows at a time now, is that the limit? More clues please, I can't wait to getting around to unravel this mystery. In other words, manga readers, please don't spoil. I'm just hypothesising a few things and I'm leaving behind this as a save point.

Small mention to Sou-kun, lastly. God bless you for being able to muster up your courage like that!

WOW amazing episode, my favorite so far. Quite bittersweet and fun in the first half, while things turned from 25 to 100 real quickly in the second half. I already like Ushio, she seems like such a charming and sweet girl. Wonder what's going on with her. I did not expect shadow Shinpei coming at all, it threw me for a loop when he suddenly turned against Ushio like that. These shadows are so damn OP wtf! They could even copy the original's memories in a flash. Low-key love how they talk though, their tones are so monotone and chill lol. How are the main characters going to deal with them all? Nice that glasses woman appeared just in time, I was wincing a bit when I thought Shinpei's legs got ripped off. Too many bad memories of seeing that happen in other anime/manga already lol. Hope that shadow Mio is dead. Super excited for the next episode!

This is the anime of the season man. Every single episode just goes by so fast, the mystery, tension and the steady stream of questions being raised about the shadows… just forces you to stay on the edge of your seat and look forward to the next week.

I’m so lost on what this ushio is, how shadow shinpei could be made without the first one dying and who the hell big tiddied onee-chan is.

This episode was definitely a lot to process, just trying to make a timeline of everything and my head hurts lmao

So i do wonder if Ushio is indeed alive or is that her shadow, like...we'll have to see man.
But loving this so much already!

Ngl I don't expect shinpei's already swapped and megane girl to come for the clutch shot. Great twist. But one thing bothers me is megane girl said that she's never eat narezushi, and in episode 2 while on the tree she said she had eaten it. Is it important for the plot? Or just miss-writed?

Edit: I think I'm understand why in the OP shinpei's try to kill himself because the shadows won't kill him anymore. He needs to die to save everyone

This episode ended with a bang lemme tell ya lol, but man that went by so fast, and so much happened too. So this Ushio is either a shadow that isn’t hostile or it’s the real Ushio with amnesia, I’m thinking the ladder but there’s a lot that’s still unknown, but I absolutely love her personality, she’s super fun, makes me sad she technically died episode 1 lol.

The Sou confession was also great, man tried with no regrets, Ushio jumping in was hilarious tho. And it turns out the Shinpei there at the fire was a shadow and the real one was stopped before he got there, the shadows do a really good job at making you hate them too lol, literally taunt you and everything, absolutely hate em, which is why it felt so good when glasses babe blasted shadow Ushio with her shotgun, that part was honestly perfect, I was so glad to see her finally show up lol. Perfect cliffhanger to keep me on the edge for another week, I really wanna see Shinpei go shadow hunting with her lol.

And one last thing to note, interesting that the shadows know that Shinpei can time loop this early (or at all) but I’m guessing this will lead to him having to kill himself to get restarts now if the Shadows aren’t gonna kill him, that is if they find out he’s a looper in each loop.

AWESOME!!!!
Can we take a single moment to appreciate the animation producer of summer time render “Hiroaki kojima” this goat really doing Komi can’t communicate and summertime render at the same time shuffling and brining excellent freelance animator’s for every episode. Summer time render is amazingly consistent from its 1st episode quality .

I’m happy that I didn’t read the manga and these cliff hanger’s and twists are giving me goosebumps. This is the only anime in this season I feel like I will remember it as nostalgia in future .
The pain Shin is receiving and the face expressions gave me Rezero Subaru vibes .
Truth behind how ushio is still alive , how the shadows are made of , who is the shadows mother , what are their objective it’s really intriguing.

The glitching effect was also in the manga so i don’t think they used it to consor

ik the glitch effect its in the manga, but i dont remember if they used it to censor things like in the anime, i remember they usted them to make more mystery in the story, i dont remember that good but i think some parts that are censored with glitch effect here arent in the manga
It's like that in the manga as well. In fact, it's more censored in the manga. The anime toned down the glitch a bit to show slightly more details.

Ushio is alive! Or is she? Is the Ushio that Shinpei is seeing now a Shadow, or her real self?

The way that Ushio is expressing herself to Shinpei, it seems like she's THE real deal whom has raised from the dead. But of course, is this all an act, like Shinpei we don't know, but what he knows is that the "Shadow" Ushio shouldn't be around people to raise suspicions. Ask questions and put the pieces together, but Ushio's interference through Mio's phone call has her flabbergasting that she was alive for a moment.

Sou's planned confession to Mio with Shinpei and his older sister Tokiko in view, he's not letting any feelings be loose, but of course, Mio has already set her heart on Shinpei, and Ushio even with her mask on for a disguise, just is unmistakable for creating a ruckus. But the TRUE Shadow in this case...was Shinpei effectively crushing Ushio before the real being could arrive in time, only to be stopped by Shadow Mio.

Shadows Mio and Shinpei being the first to realize that the real Shinpei can timeloop and predict events before time to look into the Shadows, and to make things worse, Shadow Shinpei has to show up being a copy that has been copied before the festival itself to reveal more of their plan to kidnap Ushio found in the sea and their "Mother" whom is awaiting awakening.

Lo and behold, the big boobed woman whom Shinpei met in the ferry...she'll become his huge asset going forward. What an episode, and we're not even 1/5th the way through.

I love that this seriously puts the thought into my head of what if this Ushio is actually the real one, and the one that died was the shadow. It would be a possible explanation for why there was actually a body. Anything is possible on all fronts. This series is seriously so fucking good right now.

Damn, this show is on a completely different level! If it wasn't for Spy Family, this would be the most interesting anime of this season so far!
This episode was definitely a lot to process, just trying to make a timeline of everything and my head hurts lmao

So i do wonder if Ushio is indeed alive or is that her shadow, like...we'll have to see man.
But loving this so much already!
Nah, even with Spy x Family. I've been loving Spy x Family, but Summer Time Rendering has the edge for me right now. I really hope it remains on this level and doesn't drop off (I know for a fact Spy x Family won't). If Summer Time Rendering's quality remains the same for all 24 eps, it'll be a serious contender to be my pick for best non-sequel anime of the year.

I'm still on episode 1 but what's going on? 4 votes for 1 out of 5, is it getting bad or is it just mal users being mal users?

Nah it’s still good rn idk why they rated it a 1. This ep was one of the ones I was most looking forward to tbh, and the next one. They’re doing a pretty good job at adapting the manga still so I’m happy. Easy 5/5 for me.

typical MAL users always capping this anime is always driving me nuts because every week is a fucking cliffhanger

this weeks episode is making me put on the edge of my seat fantastic episode 9/10

Ughh it's just getting good and good. There's a lot of mystery to why this and that.

Why is the Kage Ushio-chan not attacking them? Is she really a Kage, what happened? What plan the Kage's are up too? Who's mother? What's Hizuru-san role? Does she knows about the Kage too so she went on a mission in Hitogashima Jima?!

I'm excited for what will happen!!

After this episode, I honestly think I'm more excited for this show than even spy x family. And I have been loving spy x family. This is a such a good season for anime. Already feeling like I'm going to have a very hard time picking AOTY between these two, made in abyss, and chainsaw man.

Welp, sad episode but lots of information! Shadow looks like they won again. Wonder if Shinpei will reset after talking with ferry girl. Ferry girl got her revenge tho. I wonder if Ushio is actually real Ushio. I wonder if Mio killed Usio in jealous rage. I hate love triangles, sucks this has one.
