Idk, I just never seem to fully appreciate voice acting when it comes to foreign languages. Like it's weird to say this, but when I don't actually understand them word by word, most VAs start sounding same-y to me.
but again Mamoru Miyano is definitely one of the exceptions, so that is definitely hype.
I'm at the "this will probably slap so I'm not going to watch trailers anymore" point with this one.
For some reason, I've never played more than the first dungeon of persona 4 golden though... I think I got really burnt out at the time because 1. I played right after P5R, and 2. more annoyingly, I bought a PS Vita just to play, then found out I had to get a memory card too which took 2 weeks to ship... 3 days before my memory card arrived it randomly got leaked that it was spontaneously releasing on steam in a few days and I just felt so defeated before even playing lmao
This was my first persona game, and second Atlus game (the first was 13 sentinals, which is one of my all time favourite things).
I own p5royal too, but I'm probably going to hold on playing that one for a while. I can imagine it being not the best idea to take on another 100 hour plus game right afterwards lol
I played it on playstation 4, and it was really fun. My cousin loved the game when he played it last year, and he had been telling me to play it since then, and I'm glad I did. I've heard the anime adaptation for p4 is also REALLY good, so I have that to look forward to as well!
Even from the trailer alone, if we count movies, this is probably one of, if not the strongest direction all year. I have yet to see a lot of the critical hits this year, so me saying oshi no ko is the best directed. isn't saying as much as you might think, but it DOES have extremely great directing, I'm sure of that much.
Oh my god, this looks incredible lmao
Will definitely watch this one soon.
It's a really, REALLY weird movie. I think it's best to watch it completely blind because of how absolutely unhinged and bonkers it is, but the basic premise is:
The trailer looked incredible though, and I've been hearing nothing but praise on it, I'm really sad that I might not be able to see it on the big screen. I mean they are having sessions for the bocchi the rock recap movies but not this, like what the hell lol
This past 2 or so months I've been mainly just playing games in my free time. I basically burnt 2-3 weeks playing persona 4 golden 24/7. And I still gotta do a New game+ for a certain secret boss.
I finished spice and wolf and oshi no ko today.
Holy moly did this season of oshi no ko COOK. The directing was godly, probably the best we're going to get all year, and the man clearly had the budget to do whatever the hell he wanted! I really liked season 1, but for me this was a whole level above it.
Spice and wolf also probably gets the award for "dialogue of the year" if that's a category lol. The animation leaves a lot to desire, but the dialogue and music are just so fucking good you almost don't even care.
I also watched "the substance" in cinema the other day, which was also really good. Honestly, I've been getting too much great media recently. I need to watch some trashy dumpster fire before becoming completely spoiled lol
holy moly I had no idea this was a thing that existed. I'm hyped!
I saw that shot where Nagara and Nozomi are both standing on the roof with Nagara's side having storm clouds while her skies are sunny and instantly connected it to the rain in the last episode. As you'll recall, the last episode opens with everyone back in the real world but clouded by constant rain. I realized that this is because, while they are back in the real world, the Nozomi that's alive is no longer the same unique and free Nozomi from the beginning of the story. Now, the sunnyness she brought is gone and only Nagara's clouds remain. It isn't until leading into the final scene, where Nagara goes to the train station, rescues the birds, and receives some closure with Nozomi / his future to complete his arc, that the rain finally calms. Of course, I had picked up on the rain before, but I had mostly just connected it to Nagara's mental state without linking it back to this shot with Nozomi.
sorry I must have missed this message before, so I'll response to it now.
This just goes to show how good of an interpretive piece sonny boy is, cause I had a completely different interpretation for it. I think the clouds represented the dullness and mundaneness of the real world. They went through a multi-life time of an adventure and now that they're back it's just... normal.
as if nothing had even happened.
The world isn't reflecting Nagara's thoughts, the world is just what it used to be. Nozomi never changed the world, she just had a different viewpoint. One that lead her to believe there is a light, which.. there is. in the final episode, there is still a shot where she reaches into the sky to get the light.
A literal interpretation would be that her reaching to the sky, is using the symbol of her seeing the sun from behind the clouds, to show that she still sees the light. While from our or Nagara's pov... it's just cloudy. there is no sun to reach for.
so in a way, the light is just as present in the finale, but we have to look passed the clouds to see it. As Nozomi has been doing during the entire series. I mean she first saw said light in a setting that had a literally pitch black sky. Nothing has changed in that sense. Nozomi has just always been better than us at finding the light.
but again, sonny boy is partly interpretive by design, so there isn't really a "correct" answer here.
tbh I have seen only like half of his works, so thankfully I still have a few titles to go through If I'm itching for more natsume goodness!
It had been a while since he worked on something though, so I am still waiting for a new title to be excited about.
It is true that you can never grasp the feel of a long story with a youtube video, but Tale Foundry is probably the closest thing to making that happen.
Both his analysis and retelling (with analysis) videos are really great. As a self proclaimed creative, his videos are actually some of my favourites.
So while I obviously didn't get the full picture of the story, or got the entire emotional weight, I think you would be surprised by how much of it I did get.
I suggest watching one his videos: https://youtu.be/i44KnocYsno?si=bqfD8r5tDIfIokiC
this one is really great and the video that made me get into his channel. I promise is better than you expect.
And here's the homunculus video, you can be the judge of how much he does it justice: https://youtu.be/yS6QDg9vm-0?si=kT-ADYFoWTCOy7aN
I had heard great things about the manga, and from the poster alone I already love the aesthetic.
bro you already forgot about look back lol
I haven't finished girls band cry so don't quote me on it being AMAZING, but given how it's score only went higher as it went on, it probably stuck the landing. Dungeon meshi I do genuinely fully recommend though. probably more than everything else that I named.
Oh you will be extremely but pleasantly surprised with episode 1. It had so many cool directing choices that it has already surpassed s1 in terms of production imo
from minute 1 the director is going all out with making this season something special, for more reasons than just the story.
Honestly, I don't mind waiting. There is a constant stream of shows and movies that I am excited about, and even when there isn't there are a ton of top tier classics that I can catch up on. So I honestly don't mind waiting at all lol
I'm not exactly from Australia, but I've been living here for about 6 years now more or less. I was born in Iran.
But yeah this place slaps, my favourite person working in the anime industry Kevin Penkin is from here, so, I couldn't be more proud lol
Will check it out after I binge girls band cry then!
At first I was going to throw a huge WHAT and start saying why would you say this. but then I checked and I don't blame you considering how you seem to have missed the vast majority of the great anime from this year.
So here's some stuff that you have got to watch instead of the random seasonals:
Spice and wolf: As far as a romance couple go, I have a hard time seeing anything else coming even close to this one. The writing is REALLY good and the music is kevin penkin, so you know it's a 10/10 soundtrack. It also has brilliant voice acting in the dub, Idk about the sub. I saw Tatum as the MC and I knew I was watching this one in english lol.
Dungeon meshi: Probably my anime of the year as of now. It's a visual feast with loveable characters and fantastic music. It starts as a fun wholesome show about cooking monster, and it still is that, but as it goes on, the serious plot points kick in and it gets REALLY fucking good. It's world building is some of the best in all of anime. It would not be a lie to say it's just as good as something like made in abyss when it comes to both the world building and the adventure aspect.
It's genuinely brilliant, and absolutely deserving of it's high critical acclaim.
Konosuba season 3: it's more konosuba, and konosuba is great!
My hero academia s7: this is shaping up to be either the best or second best season of the show. so it's great.
Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction: I haven't started this one myself, but I can already tell you it's going to be one of the best anime this year. This is a sci-fi from one of the most legendary mangaka out there. The acclaim of this guy isn't that far behind Urasawa or Takehiko.
His most well known work is Oyasumi pun pun, but Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction is also a massively beloved title. from what I've heard, it's a good adaptation too, so I can easily see it getting to the top ranks of mal by the time it ends.
From the few episodes that I have seen, girls band cry is also really really good. and apparently it gets even better.
I also loved the first episode of a sign of affection, but I put that one unhold for now.
And I didn't even consider the stuff from this season which have just started like oshi no ko s2.
And along with all that, there are a ton of highly beloved stuff that I haven't seen, and know very little about, but are apparently really good according to the people who have seen them.
Kaiju n8, Kingdom s5, The Dangers in My Heart Season 2, Sound! Euphonium 3 and Yatagarasu: The Raven Does Not Choose Its Master.... just to name a few.
I really hope they put the look back movie in cinemas here in Australia, I would LOVE to see it in theatres!
btw do you still recommend the jelly fish can't swim anime? from what I have seen the reception has turned a lot more negative since it ended.
I changed mine that way to, it looks really weird to me cause I'm used to it being the other way around, but since the other order is the norm I changed it for the sake of not causing confusion.
I order it from right to left, because my 10th favourite anime changing, is WAY more likely than my 3rd or second favourite anime changing, and since mal puts new favourites on the left, it's a way less of hassle to change it.
So why is it that literally anyone I see on this website orders it the other way around?
I actually really liked her too, when I said new characters I was talking about everyone but her.
I really don't know, I feel like the moments that it shines at are so good, it would be pretty damn hard to mess them up. the music also is doing some heavy lifting in making every single scene hit.
I think how bad the directing can be is really obvious on some of the action scenes.
There are also the extremely weird choices like ending half the episodes with fake cliff hangers, or in the very legendary episode 21, skipping the part of his travel back that would have been the most interesting to see.
The directing went from "good enough" to not take away from the scene. and weak. I can't think of a scene that impressed me because of the directing. There are also some continuity errors specially in the scenes of the soldiers showing up.
And there is also one shot of okabe in particular that looks so goofy. It's like an important scene at all, but it has been living rent free in my head for years.
let me see if I can find it:
The more I look at it, the more wrong it looks lol
I have problems with 0, okabe is NOT one of them lol
Even if the entire rest of 0 sucked with 0 redeeming qualities, I would still love it for making my all time favourite character even better.
It is for me probably one of the hardest shows to give a score to. It's the show that someone could give any score between a 9-4 to, and I would be like, yeah, that's fair.
I don't know of any other show that goes back and forth with it's quality as much as SG 0.
And honestly, 6 is a bit of an exaggeration. Cause it's like a very high 6-low 7.
Like, let's look at it this way, most of 6s are shows that are actually 6s. Steins;gate 0 is a 10/10 that loses a lot of points because of all of the problems I have with it lol
I think the reason I allow myself to give that low of a score is, for me, my favourites list (and extended favourites on the about me thingy) is what I decided to fully base off, how much I like something, and made my score be purely how good I think they are critically. Steins;gate 0 definitely would be in my top 5 favourites, I just didn't put it there, cause I leave only my favourite part of each franchise in it, to kinda represent the whole thing.
You know what's funny? the return of Hououin Kyouma is literally the scene that impacted me the most out of any show that I have watched.
And there are like 3 episodes of 0 that I consider a masterpiece.
But I gave it a freaking 6!!!
and I find it funny how for you it went from a 10 to a 9, but for me it went from a 10 to a 6.
Despite the fact that I can sit here and ramble for hours about how much I fucking love steins;gate 0. It's such a weird show, there is so many things that I think it's incompetent at, but it somehow has just as many things that it exceeds at above 99% of other anime.
Like I sit there and think, wow, the directing has taken a massive step down, but holy shit the music is even better. Wow, that episode was terrible and the last 2 minutes of it is so good I'm about to cry.
Why the fuck is farris still a cat girl in war, holy shit Hououin Kyouma is fucking back!!
I'm so tired of these fake out cliff hangers, It literally has one of my favourite endings of any story.
The pacing is so messy, the character interactions are still gold.
the new characters are so uninteresting, and the so called villain was dog shit.... the old cast gets even better with their new developments, and okabe is now officially never going to be not my favourite character....
you see what I mean?
There is so many things that I don't like about it, but so many other things that I would consider "all time best" level good. One scene I'm thinking "what a terrible show" and the next thing it hits me with peak fiction material.
