Well that was a sweet episode with a bit of drama in it.

Irina spent days on the isolation chamber but she was able to withstand it. She finally parachutes by herself and is able to land.
But that scene where they hold hands while falling from the sky was really sweet.

The spacecraft that was carrying the dog crashed however, I hope nothing happens to Irina, and Lev is also on the line, if the experiments fail they will go after him too.

Looks like we got some storytelling about 5 months before the story. Experiment dogs were talked about and their current mission also has its risks.

Not much comedy nonsense episode. After all that training, Laika is on a serious mission this time with her partner. And it didn't take them long to find a comet. I guess the show is starting to reveal its darker elements.

2 weeks before the space launch, and both Lev and Irina trained separately.

Even the USZR has failed expeditions (like the placing of Malty the dog) that has the space rocket called in jeopardy. But whatever it is, the pride of being first is but the only concern of the motherland, whoever (that is Irina) and whatever it takes as impertinent sacrifices to the Nosferatu Project.

Irina's short flashback certainly raises a prospect about humans protecting vs. humans disposing beings like Irina. And Lev most certainly heard her cries for help, which brings back Irina's loveable grins.

With people like Franz transferring out soon, there's almost no credibility that Irina will come ouf of this alive, and Lev will do everything in his power to train, teach and protect her till the Project is done. While though, I can definitely see the small blushes between both characters that have a common dream of flying into space.

The way that the higher-ups have planned for this approach, they'd better have it ready to exterminate all evidence in order to keep mum about secrets outside of the UZSR (just like the Soviet Union, anything must not be divulged), and that is frightening enough.

In my heart I'm really praying that Irina will come out alive, because this Nosferatu Project will kill her slowly and gruelling.

They're going to kill Irina and my heart isn't ready for it. The fact we're only half way through the season and the launch is only a week away, gives me hope she'll be alive at the end.

Poor dog... 😒
Irina finally parachuted by herself. πŸ‘ However, the death of that dog will definitely be a new trauma for her.
That racist auntie at the first half was another annoying character who has joined the racist brigade of this series.

that vampires being burnt was brutal.. legit made me angry not gonna lie..
This episode had some Irina cute moments too but mostly focused on world building and backstory which is nice once in a while

Not gonna lie, Irina may have been obedient but she just didn't wanted to acknowledge that they will kill her afterwards the Moon landing thing.. and then seeing the Dog being burnt alive made her realize and traumatized that she will indeed suffer the same fate..

from the PV of next episode.. looks like its not gonna be a good episode for Irina..

Great episode! Irina managed to withstand the isolation chamber section of the training. That scene where they held hands in the air and Irina landed was great. It seems Irina also thinks he isn’t a bad human.

Looking forward to the next episode!

With Lev back to the program. And Irina close and prepared to be sent to space, and we are halfway of a season still, my guess is Irina come back safely and the rest of the show will be Irina and Lev defecting to UK.

I'm terrified for Irina. I think we'll get some sort of bittersweet ending where she might float off into space, but there's not way that regime lets her live peacefully on Earth

This anime is really trying it's best to make us feel anxious about the finale :S

But I'm all here for it. I love how it hits the right spots and is slowly becoming one of my top favorites this season. Perhaps even AOTS if it sticks the landing...pun intended.

Pretty sweet episode until the end with the orbit crashing on earth. Franz got kicked out of the project and Lev got a place, lucky him. Even though he doesn't like using other people's misfortune, he still got a place. Seems like Irina have to be super lucky to make it out alive. I'm excited to see how this will play out. Will she make it out alive or not? Probably, yes.

Man, after seeing that cabin crash and that dog that was in it died, I am becoming legit afraid of what fate Irina might meet and the consequences that Lev will have to deal with. But that's really worst case scenario. For now I am really appreciating the wholesome Irina x Lev moments!

I expected this fictional show made for entertainment and has vampires in it to be 100% accurate to the history that it's being inspired by. The historical inaccuracies in this episode in particular! The USSR (which is clearly what the show is based on) didn't have flight termination systems. So why did they mention they terminated the flight! This couldn't have happened. smh

The garlic necklace doctor's assistant has slightly raised a spy flag with that talk about getting transferred from the city soon.
The other two possible spies are the bully girl and the matron but these two aren't shady at all so I'm writing them off for now.

Another great episode. Reality hits hard after seeing the failure of experiment including Irina as though what if it would have been them instead. Irina can finally jump the parachute by herself. It seems like dog death will be cultivating the long time nightmare for Irina. I really wish there will be nothing detrimental occurred to her and she will succeed in her objectives as the launch date is looming upon them. Also she seems to start recognising the Lev hinting the possible romance between them. I hope Lev also feels same since he will do anything to protect her. I sure wanna see them together and Irina sucking some blood. So, it was really human who killed all Irina brethren and her family, I wonder why they did that. It makes me despise those scorny and loathsome humans and fuck that lady instructor. Lastly, Tsundere Irina is cute and let us go to the hibernation until the next episode is released, deso.

So my initial guess from the previous episodes were correct, it was a raid-turned genocide on the vampires. I wonder why Irina told Lev she volunteered herself hmmm

Anyways her training is going smoothly and Lev got promoted back to his original position from reserve, nice.

I can't imagine how bad Irina must feel inside now since she's trusting her life to people who are very willing to sacrifice her if need be.

Damn, anyways 4/5 ep

So let me get this straight. Vampires are so weak that whole village of them can't put up a resistance to some human soldiers. Vampires don't need blood to survive, don't have special powers like strenght, teleportation etc.

So what makes them different from humans? Just longer fangs, longer ears and dislike for sun? It's not enough to dehumanize them, and why she is even needed as an astronaut if she doesn't have any special powers?

I really dislike this approach of removing all vampirism from a vampire but still call it vampire becouse of reasons.

This deconstruction of vampire myth by showing how bad, bloodthirsty humands are hunting and killing poor, innocent and harmless vampires is also stupid.

Nevertheless, I like this show. It has unique setting in Soviet Russia, it's fun to watch astronaut training and interactions with this cute pseudovampire elfgirl.

I think that's way before Irina was recruited by the USZR, so it might have been a different army altogether that burned Irina's village.

Really good episode! I like how Lev just continuously praises Irina even though the other cosmonaut candidates are badmouthing her. Irina did a great job withstanding more than 3 days in the isolation chamber, that flashback was brutal, Jesus. But the soundtrack in the show continues to be a banger.

The parachute scene was so sweet and wholesome, I love Irina and Lev a lot. Though the construction of the rocket ain't going well, which makes me really worried for Irina. Less than 2 weeks left till launch, really looking forward to the next episode.

What kind of resistance do you want to see them do? Banzai charge the deadly PPsh & flamethrower? Without any basic discipline training, gun, bayonet, or even katana like the Japanese?
Good luck, most of Japanese banzai charge are complete failure against US firepower supremacy anyway. Even the rare successful ones are short lived.

But, how about ambush?
If these soldier split in teams instead of going alone like in the usual hollywood movies, good luck trying to ambush them with fist or cooking knife.

"why she is even needed as an astronaut if she doesn't have any special powers?"
1. If the test flight have minor problem but still managed to successfully return safely, which would be better? Asking the dog about the minor problem in dog language, or asking a non-human species about the minor problem that can talk in human language?
2. If the test flight also fail, at least she is not categorized as a human. Like how the other nation use chimpanzee who are close to human as the test subject.

In real life, the United States' first human spaceflight program was named after the Roman god Mercury, and the first group of astronauts were called the Mercury 7.
In their world, the United Kingdom of Arnak's first astronauts are named the Hermes 7 (the Greek equivalent of Mercury). I like how their world plays out similarly to our own.

Irina's village and parents were killed in an anti-Vampire pogrom.

She looked so happy successfully landing with a parachute.

If they keep blowing up their test subjects before they land out of fear other countries will steel their secrets, then it defeats the whole purpose of Project Noseferatu; to test human spaceflight (including the landing) without using a human.

Like the last episode, the slow and gradual growth in the relationship between Irina and Lev is what makes this show so great. In this episode, the separation of the two characters has brought them closer in the end.

Also, love these subtle moon imageries too

I think it is the same USZR army that burned the village or maybe it's an army equivalent to the German army before the Soviets took East Germany around the end of World War II.

This was a great episode; the best one yet. The use of music and silhouettes and general imagery in the portrayal of the raid on Irina's family castle was beautiful. And as much as this series also has plenty of laid back and calm moments to catch your breath, I can't hold back the feeling that it's becoming more and more like a political thriller with tensions and all the implications surrounding the future launch ratcheting up.

The internal policing and gag order on information leaks is becoming so extreme that they're starting to sabotage the efficacy of parts of their whole program. I wonder how much research will end up aborted or just underutilized because of suffocating paranoia. Visits from the NKVD-esque comissars and military intelligence officers and brass like Lyudimila are ostensible morale boosters but just see the usual lemmings jump up to bleat the party line. No actual value or insight gained from either side except serving the purpose of walling off info between the sectors and making sure everyone is toeing the line.

People are dehumanized for far less than that all the time.

And historically and depending upon country, culture, and resulting political environment, especially so.

Thinking about it, I actually don't think too much bad will come to Irina. She has quite a few people on her side, or at the very least, not wanting to see her killed right away.

I am more worried for the Supreme Leader. Mainly because he did not seem interested in executing Irina after the launch and if she successfully returns. What if someone else were to take power? That's what I'm worried about.

Also the ending worries me of course. From what happened to the test dog, it may very well be possible that the flight for Irina would be a success, but she would have problems coming back to earth and possibly be left with the capsule being terminated due to those problems, similar to what happened to the doggo. However I do have hope that would not happen as the goal is to test whether it is possible for humans to go to space and come back safely, and failure of Nosferatu would likely not be tolerated.

Ahh the intensity, I can feel it. It really is getting harder for Irina by the day because not only she carries all of her past trauma and current burdens, she also got to witness a dead dog. And looking at the chances, she's likely to end up in the same manner, and it's just sad to think about it.

I wonder how Lev can plan something ahead so that he could manage to save Irina by the threads of the UZSR. We'll see about it, for now let's enjoy the sweet moments between these two as they are slowly connecting to each other.

Good Lord in Heaven, I love this OST.
It's one of the best I've heard in a long time. I'd say since the first season of Beastars came out two years ago.

I also love Irina's voice (Ah, of course, it's Hayashibara Megumi!).

Huh, the soldiers that assaulted the vampire village were using PPSh-41s. I suppose that was some sort of suppression operation after the war, done by the Union.

Huh, huh, Irina was calling out for Lev.
My, my...

It's not like those people have any kind of power. At most, it's just a couple of scientists (one of them is going to be transferred anyway) and a serviceman. The top officials don't care a bit.

Things are going so well for both Irina and Lev, until the cold harsh reality hits.

Ussr only wants success, they will cover up any failures and dispose of the test subjects to keep their secrets.

The massacre of Irina's village is hard to take in, they killed her parents when she was 3 years old.

I want Irina to live after this is over.

Irina's past was brutal. The vampires in her village (including her parents) were burned to death and she was made into a disposable test subject for UZSR space projects. Those vampires were awfully stoic as well; they didn't scream or cry out from the effect of the flamethrowers, even when their weakness is supposed to be heat.

Not liking Irina's chances in that launch. I don't think her survival will be made a priority over information. Knowing some of the characters in this anime, they might even detonate the rocket out of spite.
