The episode almost put me to sleep. Show just kinda feels lifeless. I will probably give it few more episodes. Tho that scene when they kill the father was well done. |

Pretty good episode. I didn't like how they cut the scene when they were about to fight each other. That mysterious-looking guy was interesting. Can't wait to see what he does next. |

The episode was ok. The pacing felt a bit off/too rushed even. The scene with the dad was well done. I enjoyed the first episode more, but looks like next week's episode will be quite good. I'm hoping the series will get better as it goes on. |

Pretty good. There were a couple of kinda awkward sequences and lines, but overall it was okay. I liked that Maki is actually capable of beating the new guys. The direction on the fight was a bit sketchy tho. Like some of the frames didn't flow together to great which led to some distracting cuts and made it harder to follow. I also feel like the whole respecting the people/families who burn thing could have been executed better. |

Maki is great. Honestly, this anime bores me, it serves no purpose, there's no goal in it, makes it like a slice of life action show. No, it doesn't serve as a goal, as they're not moving towards it, and there's no given way to move towards it. Leaving it as "people are combusting without a reason and we don't need a reason, let's just live" without a question to why would instantly make the story "bad." I presume it will move later though, so I'm not saying this is by any means "bad." |

AnotherGuy said: have you seen fire fighters they have exams and competition especially the rookies , this is common amongst cops as well.HereticHunter said: Why do I see people complaining about a shounen being a shounen? lmao Because, even if it's shonen, it needs to make some sense. Why would firefighters fight amongst themselves, specially the rookies? If if was the entrance exam for them, or a yearly evaluation of the firefighters, it could make sense. But these guys are fresh out of the academy, what's the point in evaluating them now? It seems extremely out of place here, kind of like the tournaments in Shokugeki no Souma or Yakitate Japan. Authors throw in these arcs when they're out of ideas or want their characters to develop quickly. But it's episode 3 we're talking about. There hasn't been any plot or character development yet. We don't even know these people. As far as the test is concerned, suprise test are a thing to guage the rookies, this is practiced it most fields dealing with emergencies makes total sense. No character development yeah no shit, it's the second episode and no plot development have watched the show we had alot, introduction of power systems, world building etc. |

Just realized this was from the creator of Souleater and thats why the creator design is familiar. Figured it out from Arthur/Exaclibur's appearance. Not finding the plot interesting nor the characters except maybe Maki. So the main goal is to find out who is burning people up and creating infernals? They seem like just a fire crew tho so I guess its just going to be the same thing next ep. |

I really hate what they are doing to the show already. The frames/animations are annoying. They literally take a manga screen and animate as less as possible. Sometimes there is literally nothing happening and a bunch of voices for 10 seconds or so. It doesnt feel that the people and the show "live", which is why it really annoys me. The fight scene with Maki had some very interesting stuff but I hate how the rest of it was executed. It must be my first 'I read the manga first' anime I've seen but man Im not sure I can bother watching this anymore. |

To a person's eye, it may seem still, but the body is never as still as any object would be on a flat table. The body is always in motion, balancing the body with the two feet and utilizing the hip. Same concept with the hand. If you hold out your hand and look at it, it can't stay perfectly still at all. That's why sometimes when you carry cameras sensitive to motion, there would be shaking to the screen somehow. I've experienced this many times before. I'm not being picky, but I felt something was lacking this time around. However, the execution of the victim this time around was nicely done. The atmosphere was nice. This is actually what I was trying to say in my last comment. Lol. Totally agree. |

I really hope the fanbase of this show doesn't act like you because you seem to be a prick to anyone who has mildly dislike for something about it. They don't show any blood but they show people getting killed and burned and mother and infant dying in the first episode , so it's for kids because it doesn't show any blood great we'll guided logic here. Cause showing blood is more violent than people dying that makes sense. Name one American kids show that did what fire force does. Wuss ? So what. Adults call other people wusses it's implausible I'm not what adults you're around but where I'm from yeah we call each other wusses especially men, but in our native tongue, in Japan I don't believe they use pussy as an insult frequently so once you're logic is misguided and superficial. I'm not American by the way, I thinking with the mindset that people getting burned alive and spontaneously losing their life is dark subject that you wouldn't want to expose your children too. Just because something is marketed towards a certain demographic doesn't mean it can't posses deep or dark subject matter that ideally wouldn't be exposed to that demographic, you're the first person I've heard refer attack on Titan as a show suitable for kids to watch. Nor does that mean it can't have ideas that don't resonate with adults, I'm not talking about fire force here im talking about fiction in general. No it doesn't youre point doesn't counter my statement at all here. That is the mindset of a child they don't think about names logically they think about the one that sounds cool to them, you're statement about the fact that a knight can't be a king yes it's an oxymoron, but you think a child cares for or knows about what an oxymoron is, he certainly doesn't care and the show has established him to be like that. Yeah I misunderstood you here i apologize. You don't need to worry about that cause I'm not part of that fanbase and I only disagree with critism if i find it hyperbolic or poorly founded or when people phrase their critism as objective fact when it's purely preferencial, or when people's opinions are poorly founded which is this case is yours. |

MasterHavik said: so showing blood would make it more mature, this logic doesn't make sense, people bleeding is worse than people burning to death, this is what I meant when I said you're logic is ridiculous / misguided. Yes that may common place for shounen but just goes to show that stories in shounen are more violent than people believe and that the Japanese are willing to expose a certain demographic to violence that the American side wouldn't. I haven't seen the 90s x men but I've seen pretty much every power rangers and I've never seen a single death that was human. I’m glad the rivalry between Shinra and Arthur is not just pure hatred. I was a bit concern at first and I tought it was just gonna be two characters who dislike each other but it seems to be a bit deeper than that so that’s nice. |

New guy joins in. Lieutenant is super mean. Anyway, a few of the early scenes were a bit awkward and the battle against Maki was lacking, not bad, but it didn't feel all that good either coming right off the first episode. Second half was pretty heavy on emotion rather than action though, and it pulled that off well. |

Very funny and cute. EXTREMELY reminiscent of both Soul Eater and Blue Exorcist, imo, which is good because those are some of the only shonens I like. The rivalry was good, and I was surprised that the show would start a tournament arc so quickly lol looking forward to the next one |

The atmosphere was nice. yes and what are we doing we are watching somebody else , we aren't embodying them, so yeah they would look still considering the context of the scenes where they do. Imo you are being picky cause it's unrealistic to expect characters to constantly make movements especially when they are just talking and unreasonable to expect animators to work at that Eh, dude, I meant that the characters are like, flat sometimes and there are awkward pauses. I didn't expect better animation (of course, animating is a pain in the arse), it's just the way the scenes are executed with weird flat scenes felt a lil' down for me. It could be the art that needs some shading or depth, I don't know, but something is off. |

Goodness I cannot emphasize enough how I thought this was studio BONES behind the animation. It reminds me so much of Soul Eater it's insane! I'm loving the show so far :) |

Shinra's rival seems neat. Overall this episode was alright. |

I found the first episode entertaining. The animation and art was cool but I have to admit it was a bit much for me to keep track of, a lot was going on in that fight scene. Regardless the bombastic introduction of characters to slowly ground them but keep it entertaining was fun, the characters appear simple even though I assume they will get much deeper and as they are now, they are relatively fun, and it was a nice set up for the series. That said, I am never a fan of showing character backstories before I'm invested in them. I didn't care for Shinra's backstory at all and the implementation felt heavy handed last episode for me. That is merely a nitpick however and it was fun. This episode on the other hand had some great banter between Arthur and Shinra, and it started to ground the bombastic characters introduced last episode quite well. It showed what made Obi tick in how serious he cares for the victims of/and the infernals themselves. It also showed Athur take the onus to take out the infernal himself. It was nice. Further, it showed the difference in second and third generation fire powers and I liked the brief moment where Obi mentioned wanting an engineer and Hinawa mentioned he liked the work. But, the part that really sold me past all that fun and cool stuff was the infernal scene. Wow! I said to my friends as we watched, is this going to be a monster of the week show for the first week? 10 minutes of fun stuff and 10 minutes for a battle scene. But this went against that! The infernal scene, while a bit heavy handed for me, really gave me chills. I loved the way Obi pulled the two recruits to the side and told them to not wield their weapons in the open. I loved how the tea cups were freshly made and on the table showing remnants of the tragedy that just struck. I loved how it was a mercy killing in which the infernal didn't move at all, as if it had the self control to beat out the infliction and sit there, protecting its daughter, not creating harm, and waiting with a smile like Shinra's to die. Then, of course, the sentiment of protecting the photo and giving it to the daughter. Good for the characters and a beautifully sad set piece overall... That scene really got to me! It reminds me of when humans barely control their devils in devilman. |

Todd_ said: A much weaker episode than last weekend's stellar showing. Maki is super cute and sexy. I want to see more of her. The new rival character is horrible. He ruined whatever chemistry the team had in episode 1. He's insanely annoying and just ruins Shinra's character. They just sound like 5 year olds bickering at each other and it's a detriment to the show's entertainment value. I found the scene in the house well directed, but that was the best part as far as directing goes. The rest of the episode felt odd and choppy. What is going on with those weirdly psychedelic moments? They feel so out of place. And even the scene on the roof top felt awkward, so much so at times I didnt know what was happening. This episode has me nervous. I loved the first episode, but if it continues in tbr direction episode 2 took it, Fire Force is in deep trouble. Well, teen boys are usually not that mature tbh x) |

First half was all over the place. Really liked the emotional aspect the leader brought up. At the end of the day those infernals were humans who left loved ones behind. I'm slightly triggered by the loud explosion sound effects. It's like a fucking gamble nowadays to get proper action sound effects in anime I guess. I might be oversensitive on this topic but I'm listening to this on top tier headphones, of course you won't be able to hear how bad these sfx are when you listen to this on your phone. |

Actor_Irelend719 said: well yeah,I understand that , the scenes are directed differently compared to other anime. It's understandable to find it weird but to me that leans towards a positive as apposed to a negative. It creates a charm to it reminiscent of monogatari but not at that level of course. It's not about shading or depth those are at the level or done similarly to how anime is done, it is more about the timing of transitions between scenes.Black_Sheep97 said: Actor_Irelend719 said: I honestly felt like the animation went kind of downhill at the first part of the episode this time with unnecessary brawling and the "still, flat" animation scenes, making it awkward. The episode could've done better by just following the manga instead of making a filler scene with muscle-girl. No offense to her or anybody, but I felt like the people just slammed the scene down to get everyone to laugh but failed to. The fight scenes were so dull too despite the amazing art. Other than that, the second part was fantastic, brilliant execution of scenes and angles. The shading was awesome too. But it gets tedious for me to keep watching somehow, like the show is lacking something to keep it interesting to follow. Like a farse maybe? The scenes between Demon boy and so-called knight felt lacking in rivalry and the animation were kinda "still" and lacking in natural motion ... Like, standing, right? To a person's eye, it may seem still, but the body is never as still as any object would be on a flat table. The body is always in motion, balancing the body with the two feet and utilizing the hip. Same concept with the hand. If you hold out your hand and look at it, it can't stay perfectly still at all. That's why sometimes when you carry cameras sensitive to motion, there would be shaking to the screen somehow. I've experienced this many times before. A decent episode exploring the morality of the world. The pacing and progression were slow, yes, but honestly, I think that it serves the show for the better. Without the slow pacing, the eerie table scene would not have had anywhere near as much of an effect. I |

Episode 1 kept me in, but this was way better! I can see that they are still pushing early chapters into self-concluding episodes to drag people into it, but they are doing it quite good so I won't complain even if I prefer more slow starts. The only real critique that I have is that while the animations and the style of the action scenes work very well, the camera is strange, but this episode made me think that it is't a result of some bad idea but that it is a consequence of the the direction as a whole which is a bit quirky. Personally, I think that it works better during the normal scenes, but maybe I just have to grow accostumed to it. P.S. Happy to see that the "SAD BACKSTORY PLEASE LOVE SHINRA" went where it deserves: in the background. Not saying that I dislike the idea or the character, but I didn't like how it was pushed so much in our faces in the first episode. This second episode did it waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better, by showing how he was a bit traumatized by the scene and how he had a flashback before. I understand that as above they probably pushed it so much as it was needed to move on with things while giving some context, but they really could have done it better. But again, I am speaking of this to praise episode 2: if they keep going like this, I can say that I will prefer this to both Dr. Stone and Vinland Saga (which I read both as manga but nvm). |

The part from where they go inside the house and find the father all the way to the end of the episode was alright. The first part though, the comedy isn't clicking well with me and it kept falling flat for me. Some of cuts used in certain scenes feel awkward. |

So far, so great. I like that Shinra and Arthur became friends within one episode. Excalibur and Bobobo are not as I remember them. I have my concerns that the rookie games will become a boring (to me) multi-episode competition arc. I have quit more than one anime due to a competition arc. |
