Reki kawahara mentioned in every afterword(LN) that he acknowledge the flaws in his writing. Even way back, before the anime came out in 2012, he acknowledge the area he lacking in and put effort into it. Overtime, his writing become more smooth and he give some character redemption(such as Asuna in Mother Rosario). Inner monologue are essential to the character development(I blame the director for not including it). Personally, I find SAO unadaptable, such as the Watchmen(Alan Moore).
I may sound like a LN purist, but the anime degrade what made the series great(sorry for the long rant lol).
Indeed i agree, although i know he's capable of stronger writing. Maybe he will be alot more devoted to his new project. I think Kishimoto kind of felt into the same trap to be honest. He was even questioning him self on his story and had mention that certain things were not carefully planned out. But then he turns around and says my next project I aim to be better then naruto lol.
This is why one piece is always going to remain the top tier shonen for me, not so much the depth of the writing and story telling that oda does, but its his commitment and optimism that really goes along way in developing a long ongoing series with such consistency.
"Hiro Mashima is quite possibly the worst storyteller I have ever seen in my life"
Hmm.. Makes you wonder how stuff like Rave master was actually good and quite consistent in its writing and story telling. So i wouldn't say hiro mashima is the worst story teller ever. I would more or less say that he lost his ambition and commitment to fairy tail and i think thats why it ended up the way it did.
Your review of Fairy Tail was clearly not a review. Instead of offering proper criticism you just bashed it in a clearly biased manner. Its okay if the movie was not for you, we all have different tastes but REALLY a 1/10 for that movie. My sense of rating is clearly different to yours, I base my ratings almost entirely on how entertaining it was after all that is why I watch it in the first place. By all standards even with its glaring plot holes it was a decent movie.
