as much as i liked the series before, this first episode felt really out of place in 2018.

the first episode was basically just a hello from all the char's and some silly slapstick, so i'm hoping they pick up the pace again quickly. it felt definitely like to aru though, maybe too much so, although i'm not sure if that's a good thing yet.

Alright since you are so adament in your shit taste - I never said I dislike Index only because she is violent, she is obnoxious overall and her beeing violent to the guy who lets her crash at his place 24/7 doesnt help

Face the reality scrub, Index sucks

Ad hominem check.

Hypocrisy check.

She has no choose but to stay at his place. Do you not remember that she has basically bben enslaved before hand?

Also misaka is way more violent then index. Let see shooting her railgun which could obliterate a human at touma. Shooting enough lighting to kill a human at him using an iron sand chainsaw on him. Not to mention

so getting attacked over and over again by Misaka out of random adolescent outburst every time He steps outside isn't obnoxious?

at lest Index has reasonable motivations for her anger. touma getting himself into trouble and hurt, forgetting food (which is by the way important if you want to live long.)

also face reality.

you ofcourse realise Biribiri never tried to actually kill touma? And once she learned he was immune it was free real estate anyway

The fuck you on about.

The novels clearly state Misaka only does it because he can nullify it. He is an invincible existence as far as her powers are concerned. She only shot her Railgun directly at him only once in a typical tsukkomi routine. The chain saw was only done once in a fight Touma himself agreed to, and she expected it to fail anyway. As for NT spoilers

I can understand not liking Misaka, there's a lot to hate especially when she and Touma are on screen in a non-serious scene. But this is just silly.

Index does indeed have other choices. She can go with Stiyl and Kanzaki, or any of the many church members that love her and enjoy feeding her because she's adorable. But instead she forces Touma to accept her as a freeloader while abusing the shit out of him. Like idk she says he saved her life and she is grateful but she doesn't show that in her actions at all. Instead of repaying the debt she claims she has she just makes his life more miserable. Oh and btw Misaka isn't the only one with tsukkomi bs Index bites him for the same reasons Misaka tries to zap him. But in Index's case she actually causes him pain, and she knows she will cause him pain. Biting him for food isn't better either because he doesn't owe her anything.

And then there's the fact that her jokes got old after the nth time. Same could be said for Misaka I guess but then you realize Index is actually irrelevant for like 90% of the story, while Misaka does play more important roles and has more scenes than just another headcrab #765745 scene. Index is both annoying and a literal shitbag, Misaka is just annoying in the worst case.

What makes it more painful is, when Kamachi decides to make Index relevant in a non headcrab scene, she actually shows good potential. But eh whatever.

@ second spoiler that's not even the superior blonde so shush.

my main point here is index is hardly any worse then misaka. also sorry , but might not hurt him doesn't change the fact she attacked him. imagine if he didn't notice just once when she attacked him while he wasn't paying attention it takes only one mistake to kill him.

@ second spoiler shes bai and you know it the other blonde will never be remembered

It's not "might not hurt him." It's "will never hurt him." The only time it did was when he willingly took it head on, which shocked Misaka herself. And she will never attack him when he can't block it, she may have a short fuse but she's not stupid.

Kuroko is a better example than Touma but even then the zaps are only to knock her out and are very much warranted.

I get your point. As I said I disagree. They have one thing in common which is beating Touma for romcom reasons. One knows she will hurt him that way and does it anyway, the other knows it won't work. One abuses him for food he doesn't owe her, the other doesn't. Dunno man can't really say Misaka is worse than Index.

@ blondes: yeah I mean both blondes are the losing teams anyway so w/e who cares. Index has this in the bag.

As expected, the first episode is already great! However, after watching it I really feel the need to rewatch the first two seasons.

Excuse me, which incident...?

Yup, I totally feel you, Misaka, me neither.

I'm not really big on rewatching, so hopefully, I will eventually catch up on things watching more and reading wiki on the things I don't remember, lol.
But I honestly think they could dedicate more time recapping previous events rather than one minute at the start. It's been 8 years after all...

Tsuchimikado is a double agent and knows about both the magic and science sides. If the Roman church is doing something big, it likely has to do with magic and he likely has heard about it from his English church boss.

Kazakiri incident IS what happened on 30th of September. Kazakiri was turned into an Angel using Last Order to fight against The Roman Church's invasion by Vento of the Front. Back then an armed mercenary unit, called Hound Dogs, was making things difficult for Touma to move so Misaka diverted their attention elsewhere. The incident ended without Touma ever telling Misaka what happened after they separated.

It has been 7 years since the end of season 2, so i need a bit of a reminder. why the hell does Touma tolerate having Index around. All she does is laze around his apartment, eat his food, bitch, moan and attack him if even the slightest thing goes wrong.

I mean honestly with this episode, biting the person you're leeching off of because he couldn't afford to feed your parasitic ass? If I was Touma i'd have kicked Index out of my house back in season 1.

Because she's the first person who was worried about him when he woke up at the hospital after his memory was wiped. He thought that Index was his close friend or lover before his head got fucked up so he felt that he had this sense of responsibility to care for her. A weird and somewhat shallow reason, but still a reason nonetheless.

The rest of your complaints are pretty much common old LN tropes, just replace angry tsundere punches with bites.

LN was was written over a decade ago so it "Takes place" in that kind of time frame. They have mechs and stuff but flip phones were still prominent in 2008 when S1 aired, for example, especially in Japan.

It's hinted pretty fairly often that he really really cares about her, too. So that's generally a good reason to not let someone run off on their own. He wants to protect her.

It's been a while.... is what I would like to say, but since I only finished Index II yesterday, it's nice to jump straight into Index III. To think it's been 8 years since Index II and it's really noticeable, quality is quite a bit higher as to be expected.

Really loving the OP and it's visuals. Probably becoming my favorite from Index.

Slight recap of previous events at the start but overall a nice and relaxing episode. Until the ending that is.

Seeing Misaka kicking that vending machine, never gets old. Such a troublesome girl at times, but I love it.

As someone who watched the Railgun series only, this feel nostalgic. Railgun was the first to introduce fripSide to me as well.

However, not remembering much from Railgun and not watching the first 2 seasons of Index seem to seriously block off most enjoyments. This episode started just alright as a standalone.

Its been a long wait and I don't know its the series that has aged badly or if its me that have matured in my taste but this episode was really bad in my eyes. The characters are utterly cardboard, the humour falls flat because its shallow jokes and the characters ring hollow. The story is uninteresting and feel extremely forced. I guess this is the way its always been in this series but in todays age the tropes that were old back then are ancient now.
This show might be a success on nostaliga alone but if I am going to evaluate this as an animated series of 2018 objectively it gets an 4/10 from me...

Oh no worries, the anime was always crap, the show was never a success, it was popular back then based purely on the source readers hype. Source readers are few these days, and they more or less resigned to the fact that the anime was bad.

I mean you can still stomach the anime, if you read the source and have your expectation set to "as long as it moves" - level.

However regarding the source, I still rate it as a legendary milestone in the LN landscape, few can match the "Absurdity" that it have got.

Wish Touma and Makoto had more time together though!

"A large scale protest by a religious group in France"? Replace protest with burning buildings and cars, gang-raping women and young girls, and destroying churches and cemeteries and you will have modern day France.

It looks a hell of a lot nicer in this anime too - don't believe me? Find some current pictures of the Eiffel Tower, and other tourist destinations in that country. There's a reason their tourism industry is down 98% and they've been under total martial law for over 2 years - yes, 98% was the real statistic, last I checked.

Lol. I love when these anime miss the mark on organizations and locations that actually exist in reality - though in this case I would surmise they did this on purpose because this anime isn't supposed to be about mass 3rd world invasion, gang rape, and sex slavery.

Uh, if you're going to put a recap at the beginning, how about a proper recap? It was many years ago in anime-time that I watched Index and Railgun, wtf happened on sept 30 (for 1 example out of many)?

Also, the episode was all over the place and I was like whuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuutttt is going on here?

Seems that it would have been better to re-watch the series before starting season 3 to at least be able to keep up.

Exactly.
Just watched Railgun S2 (which had ommited before) and now strated this.
And nah.. not even 5/10.
All this fanservice is forced and extremely annoying, characters are cliche in a bad way, dialogs are total bs, logic is non-existent, etc..
Was Index always such useless and abusive brat
And Touma balless soyboy?
Perhaps yes.

Well, in the name of Nostalgia I'll watch it till the end anyway, but really not a single hope something will improve (

Sorry to offend you man, but couldn't they have just been a bit more creative instead of just assuming the phones would have the exact same design in a more futuristic setting? It kinda hurts the illusion tbh

Dat ending.
LMAO at Touma and Tsuchimikado falling out the plane.

What a start. I'm so happy to be watching Index again. You know I had to wait for the BD, especially after wanting Index III for so long. You all might have seen my thread from 3 years ago (https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1669711) when Index III was announced about who would perform the OP song with Mami Kawada retired. I guessed it would be Maon Kurosaki for a good reason and she delivered. Not only that, but Mami returned to do the lyrics of the song. She should have just went all the way and did the vocals as well. lol With that said...

They changed the sfx of Imagine Breaker. WTF were they thinking when the original sfx is iconic. Also, I loved how Itsuwa grabbed Touma in the OP. I just started cheesing.

Magical demonstrations at the Southern France?.. Hm..
Well, it seems Uiharu is nerding sometimes.. ;P Well, I personally find it more attractive and interesting that she likes her hobbies.. ;P
Many characters doing good old things I know them for.. ;P Lots of slice of life this episode, reminding the characters is nice.. ;P
Ok.. So director board of the city actually would want war in their majority.. And to cush Rome Church.. While Rome Church would like to crush Academy City themselves.. Well.. Ok.. It seems there are literally no force to stop war train going.. So we'll be having full scale war at this pace?..
Konstantin's document, hm..
Touma disappearing without saying goodbyes isn't the best thing.. He might not return anymore, and for others he'll seem like he one day just disappeared..

Damn, so much dumb bullshit, Railgun is so much better..
- Index being the ungrateful asshole that only thinks about food that she always is
- The boys with the bunny girl discussion in front of the female teachers
- The baseball throw skirt flip
- The teacher getting period blood red stain on her skirt while he walks in
- Misaka grabbing his phone for no reason and getting upset because of her mother
What kind of weirdos watch that and think hey, that's funny.

So right, we went from Touma plucking weeds at the school playground to him skydiving towards the end within a matter of 20 odd minutes.. and this still doesn't surprise me. That's just how uncertain this series is.

Knew something was up with the old lady, but hey they didn't need to kill her off just like that lol. Though again, we'll blame the Roman church for everything, right?

Anyways, it's quite a typical start. Fanservice, panties, sudden foreign trip and... a bit of reintroduction. Knowing the reputation this season has, I'm already low with expectations. By the way, a new girl is coming next episode.

That didn't feel like a full episode at all, it went so fast. Pretty much a continuation of sorts from last season, with the shenanigans from the Roman Orthodox Church. This time it involves France!

Love that Misaka already made an appearance. Just for trying to zap Touma, nothing more.
