Ah, badass Ash returns in full with a gun in hand and that tough attitude. Really cool that he doesn't let anyone intimidate him.

On the other hand, it's also fun to watch his casual life especially with Eiji. The two really make up quite a fun duo to watch when they're not in trouble with their enemies. Half way to the series now and I feel like the plot is also moving more too.

Can't wait to see what else Ash has to show to the audience with his skills.

What I liked and kinda didn't like about this adaptation was Ash's pizza delivery boy disguise to Max and Ibe was cut out but the whole scene truncated to simple cell phone call. It makes sense in modern context but I liked the lesson he gave them about not having their guard up which was cut in the change. I also don't believe he has actually called Bones and Kong by their names in the anime. If he did, I missed it. Good episode overall with how the paced his plot with Arthur's gang. Don't mess with Ash. He will murder you even if you beg for mercy.

Looks like no Charlie or police briefing either in this episode. Also no The Snows of Kilimanjaro story which is important to Ash's character development.

I loved this episode (with a lot of foreshadowing fot the follow episodes). I was waiting for Cain and Black Sabbath too. They cut something (and the next one will be a bomb) but it was perfect. The pumpkin scene with Ash at the verge of being surprised and terrified was perfect. The confrontation with Arthur is coming.

Oh, yeah. I didn't even mention Cain in my post. He's one of my favorite characters. Really honorable for a gangster.

I love it when Ash and Eiji are just having fun and bickering at each other! The pumpkins part was so precious... Next episode is going to be a blast with Ash VS Arthur. I can't wait for Sing and Cain to have more scenes, too!

Come on Mappa, stop censoring Eiji all the time!
Well, at least we got Hallowen scene, I was waiting for in impatiently.
I liked this episode a lot though they cut out many things. We finally got to see Cain and his gang. I can't wait for 13th episode. It will be... well, no spoilers. It goes for every episode to be honest.
I really like that there's almost no suffering since Shorter's death. What a pity library scene made me burst into tears...

So, we knew what they want to do some officials from the American government that have ties with the Mafia and Banana Fish.

In the other side, Sing suspected that something is wrong with Ash killing Shorter.

The fight with Arthur is coming.

Yut-Lung acknowledging that Ash didn't kill Shorter, he just set him free, already made this episode great for me. And finally someone said that him, and Ash are alike, Sing is one smart boy, and I guess that Yut-Lung is going to make a move against one of his brothers now, walking down the path he chose for himself with Ash on his mind, and I can't wait. And I love how Ash is cornering Arthur slowly, and perfectly. I mean, killing people is bad, but it's not like he went berserk, he's just getting revenge for his friends as he increases his chances by decreasing the enemy's numbers and their influence at the same time; when you're fighting monsters you may end up becoming one, or at least acting like one. I also loved how he faced Dino at the airport, it was so bold!

It's a bit sad that he fought with Eiji for the first time, but they talked it out, and they are fine. Ash can now continue to eat more healthy, and stinky japanese food, as they keep sharing their days, or at least I hope so. The halloween bit was cute, though I felt a bit bad for Ash with all of those pumpkins. And it's a pity that the first person he cared for died, but I'm sure he won't let it happen again with Eiji. And also, how precious and in character for Eiji to become friends with the housewives, a cinnamon roll indeed. And I liked that he's helping Ash with the photos, and that bit with Max; the conspiracy Dino is planning with his accomplices is taking form, and it's big. I can't wait for what's about to come, but I'm also a bit worried with what Arthur is planning, he's rotten to the core and it's obvious he's going to try and cheat.

The suffering is real. My heart just sinks more and more with every episode. I doubt Eiji will go back to Japan. I think the scene where he is shown running in the opening will come now (Not the same scene, but you know what I mean). He will go for Ash, or something.
And JESUS the foreshadowing is real: They killed the girl Ash liked because they thought she was his girlfriend, Eiji's innocence can be "more dangerous than a gun" and stuff. Ugh............. Eiji please take care of yourself my boy... I don't see him dying, is more like Ash is going to die for him BUT I DON'T WANT THAT TO HAPPEN EITHER

Probably. I'm guessing they are going to leave out a lot of things or abbreviate them like how they cut out the whole police manhunt for Ash subplot and no Nadia and Charlie.

Ash was on a rampage on Arthur's men and that soon will change though, since now he seems to be going for the peaceful route. I guess Eiji is becoming an influence on his decisions, but will it work though.

We even got a glimpse of Ash's past and as always it is painful.

The Jack O Lanterns were the best part of this episode. The anime has been going down hill for me for a while so Ill stop before I offend anyone.

i really wanna like the new Asian kid but his logic for wanting to kill Ash is just...frustrating.

So this episode covered 157 pages I believe. I'm honestly surprised no one so far commented that this episode was fast considering this was the most content covered in one episode thus far.

I can definitely see next episode covering 170 pages because a ton of it is action. But I feel like the aftermath of it all needs time to breath so I'm on the fence with how fast they might need to go.

Instead of them blitzing through volumes 9-13, I would rather they condense the events in volumes 14-18 because I personally found the action scenes there were dragged out and a little tiring to get through. But maybe I'm just a bit biased because almost all my favorite parts of Banana Fish are in volumes 9-13 and would hate to see that content rushed through.

This was pretty good, but some parts felt a bit rushed. Particularly the part where Eiji confronts Ash about his killings. It happened and resolved so quickly. Ash even went to say that Eiji would hate him by the end of 10 days, so I figured there would be more buildup of Eiji questioning Ash and such. Plus it was resolved immediately after in the library. I guess that does show the strength of their relationship.

Man this epsidoe went by so fast x_x I'm okay with cutting content, but damn, I feel like this episode was sloppily written. The amount of short scenes and quick scene changes were really noticeable throughout the episode. I understand that there are a lot of volumes to adapt, but ugh, this episode wasn't as enjoyable to be because it felt so choppy. Otherwise, I've been enjoying the adaptation so far.

see, going to an airport armed was slightly more believable if the setting had stayed in the 1980s like it supposed to instead of turning this into a modern adaptation

actually a lot more things in Banana Fish come off more as being more sensible in the original setting

Volume 8 chapter 1 at around page 44 (25 in online scans). Ash tells Eiji how he views his own life and how he pictures his death will be by
It is a pretty important conversation that shows that Ash is mentally in a really dark place and how his character develops later to get out of that mental state. So the argument that he and Eiji had did not just get resolved as easy as the anime makes it seem.

Two people quoted my comment but for some reason I can’t see them? maybe they deleted it, but if you’re looking for the cut conversation it’s in volume 8. ash and eiji are looking at manhattan and making up from their argument and ash talks about his feelings towards his own death. I hate that they cut this out because it’s an important part of his characterization and puts their argument into perspective as well and is also important for their relationship. That’s why I’m so frustrated that it was cut out.

ohh ok I guess my phone was just glitching. but yeah I know they have to cut things out because it’s only 24 episodes but this is so frustrating to me and honestly I’m considering dropping the anime for a little while. first time watchers might enjoy it more though, but I reccomend to everyone to read the manga.

that conversation after the argument left both ash and eiji with more complex thoughts and feelings than shown in the anime as you said and UGH it’s so frustrating.

I don't think you two should stress over this change. The next episode's title is called "The Snows of Kilimanjaro." Plus, from looking at the five screencaps provided for episode 13, the scene on the pier is also there so it looks like they're going to have that conversation in flashback format.

I hope so. When I originally watched the episode, I didn't realize it was cut because I thought the conversation happened a bit later but I had remembered wrong. Then Hiatus reminded me it was missing and I realized it was a big part of Ash's character arc and hoped that maybe it would be done in flashback form but wasn't sure that's even possible. I hadn't seen the preview for next episode yet so it's good to know it will likely be included since later on it is referenced again. That's still a strange narretive format to include it though.

Sing Soo-Lin is so cute. Since Skip is gone, he will be my new son in this series. They killed off most of my faves: Skip, Griffin and Shorter. I hope they don't kill off Sing since he'll be my new fave.

Also, I liked that little encounter between Golzine and Ash at the airport. Golzine and his men couldn't do anything while Ash taunted them.

They finally showed the group of black men from the opening. I was wondering last episode if they were going to show them since they had their own scene in the OP just like Sing Soo-Lin and his gang did. Cain looks like he would never let Golzine or Arthur control him, he looks like the type who would rather die and even give up his own life for his men but I could be severely wrong. However, I don't want any manga readers telling me either. I'm trying to read the manga but I'm way behind and don't want any spoilers. I had to block a lot of people commenting in reaction videos because they were fucking annoying.

Damn, Ash is cold-blooded killing those who refused to join him but he's changed. I'm sure he has killed more people in the past and I'm not talking about the monster who raped him as a child. He has probably killed many enemies who opposed him in the past.

That little Halloween scene was nice. Those two guys in Ash's team, I don't know their names but the big black guy and the skinny white guy with pink hair, they seem like the doofuses of his group and I hope they never die. Again, please don't spoil me if it's going to happen. I've accepted the fact that lots of good characters are going to die but I want to see it as it happens in the Anime for myself.

I hope they reveal that girl who was killed when Ash was 14 years old.
