R.I.P (i hope were wrong)
I wanted to comment over your statement in BF review about shoujo and bl.
''Since its publication in a shoujo magazine in the 1980s, Banana Fish has received several labels such as boys’ love (BL), shounen-ai, and yaoi due to popular misconceptions. Not only are these terms incorrectly applied to the work, but they also do not cut at the meat of what Banana Fish is. And even its original shoujo demographic tag deeply misrepresents the content of this anime.
Drugs. Rape. Pedophilia. Gangs. PTSD. Violence. Corruption. These are the terms at the core of Banana Fish. ''
What you're basically trying to claim here is that shoujo and Bl can't have any mature themes and something like BF shouldn't be called shoujo because of that reason. This is simply wrong.
Yoai manga Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai's main themes are rape, pedophilia, PTSD and mafia. Korean manhwa Let dai which is considered shoujo (even though it had bl elements in it) is focused around gangs, violence, rape and victim's treatment by society. Killing Stalking is about mental illnesses and how they define human relationships. NANA extremely popular shoujo manga also have an adult themes and very realistic romantic relationships in it. And there are lot of other examples out there.
It seems like you yourself have a big misconception of the genre. BF is clearly shoujo, why beacuse it's been published in that kind of magazines and it was made by woman and clearly aimed more at females than males. And it doesn't make that work any less of an adult or deep.
You have probably received plenty of compliments regarding your review on Banana fish but I still want to thank you for the review. I couldn't have said anything better myself, and I especially admire the cohesiveness of the review itself. It seems like you put a lot of thought into the structure and design.
