Not very bad episode, but directing isn’t very good. There are lot of revelations (maybe too many - the pace is rushed I think), but all of them are felt very insignificant, especially for the characters. For example, Levi almost said Mikasa that he is Accerman too (I haven’t read the manga, but this fact is very obvious for me) and Mikasа did’t react at all. Honestly, I like that authors give Mikasa more development that the strong girl, which always screams “EREEEEEN” but it is not felt like really important moment for her. Mostly, I think because of bad directing and limited animation (maybe Wit Studio saved money for the end of the season). It is sad fact because Tetsuro Araki always famous for being able to make any scene looks really epic, whether a potato chip scene in Death Note or every action scene from AoT season 1.

Great episode, we are exploring more in the beginning of the story and Eren's power.

Grisha obtained Frieda's power and possibly manipulated humanity, the fake royalty and all that story, also Historia's sister.

Now, what happened with Grisha and where is him. Is he the titan beast or something?
Is just that the titans design is similar.

Now soldiers versus soldiers, we're gonna watch a rescue attempt. Tension.

The power to manipulate memories feels really out of place in this series, a bit too far into the deep end of the supernatural/superpower spectrum, even for this show. I can't say I'm a fan of it but not like I have any control over what they're doing. Hopefully it doesn't go overkill on this superpower/ability stuff.

I many persons were a bit iffy about it to when it was reveal in the manga, as a manga reader you can breath easy.

The power to manipulaye memories and control titan is from the coordinate that Eren has, so its not something where multiple persons can use, only the person that has the coordinate, I guess you can see why the titan shifters wanted to capture Eren so badly.

It showed at the begining of this episode that Eren ate his dad, so his dad cant be the beast titan.

Man this show is handled so bad to the western audiences is sad.
The big reveal is here and all the hype is gone.
After last seasons ultimate tease (beast titan) I think a huge amount of the fanbase just spoiled themselves (myself included).
On my point of view, had the show concluded where I think this seaoson will end, would have been amazing.

OMG! I'm crazy! This episode was insane! We found out in 1 episode more than in 3 seasons. I can't believe this omg! What an episode.

So Eren's father as we knew it made him a titan but it seems that Eren ate him a long time ago and forgot about it? Because if he is dead then why he looks like the monkey titan? Maybe he isn't dead at all? omg!!!
Never thought that i would find it this way, Eren's dad killed all of Reiss family (at least that's what we know now), wow!

As expected, Mikasa and Kenny are related, and it seems that they have some kind of power? Feel bad for Mikasa's family :/

After finding all of this, it won't be that hard to convince Historia to eat Eren...but i'm not sure that she can do it.
And damn, i feel bad for Eren...finding all of this in the worst possible way.

All i don't get is why Kenny is protecting the King. Oh and i feel like Historia's father didn't tell us everything...

I'm so happy that after so many episodes we were finally able to find out some of the truth.

Is the next episode of SnK going to be one of the most epic episodes we've ever seen? Without a doubt! Can't wait for the next episode!

Also safe to say Eren dad is the talking hairy giant titan lol this episode, mind = blown.

Yup, she's dead. Grisha ate Frieda and took her power. Then turned Eren into a titan, Eren ate Grisha and inherited both his father's titan ability and Frieda's power.

i'm confused. Eren's father going after them because of the " Strong titan power " that Freida has doesn't make sense to me and feels out of place. Can we assume he was after her because of the coordinate power and not something else ? because we did confirm Eren has the coordinate, but we don't know if he does have that purple eye thing yet. And it makes sense for the Reiss guy to try to hide that fact.

And does the coordinate have both the memory change power and the control titan power ? or are they separate things ? if this is true then that means there is pretty much nothing special about the Reiss family bloodline. All they have been doing is just moving the coordinate down from generation to generation.

If someone wants to correct me on my theory please don't be a manga reader.

This was an important episode for the answers of some unanswered questions. As a non manga reader it was surprising to learn what happened to Eren's father. And also I feel like Levi might be the son of Kenny's sister. I don't know yet.

I suspect the other 5 members might not have been killed by Grisha, but eaten by Lord Reiss to power up like on "Highlander"
Otherwise he just tossed them to the Titan to get away like a coward
He didn't care about the mistress and Historia (until the last moment) previously and the preview doesn't make him look good either

Attack on Titan is incredible so far, rejoice!

I had suspected that Eren had eaten his father. Neat to see that was right.

They're telling Eren a lot of new information, but I don't see it changing anything. They want safety within the walls, and that's the opposite of Eren's goal. So, they probably gotta die.

that wouldn't make sense because Eren does have the coordinate which Frieda has therefore it wouldn't make sense if lord Reiss is the one that ate her.

Frieda's titan possesses three distinct powers: one to alter the memory of people, one to control the titans and the last one has not been reveal in the anime. The coordinate is the 2nd ability.

so i'm guessing all these abilities aren't particularly special to the Reiss family, but it has been passed down from generation to generation by them hence the reason the only titan is Frieda so she can absorb these abilities from the previous generation ? so its not like each Reiss family member has something unique ? Or am i misunderstanding something

so as a manga reader, ive just started watching this season and i think they give the lowest budget to animating historias past and im not even complaining lol never liked her. her scene with frieda is so low budget lol

anyways isnt the pacing like too fast for the anime-only? not really sure cus i dont know how they feel. and the censorships are funny tbh im waiting for memes cus why not. pretty sure more and more would get curious about the royal family and the ackerman, i suggest read the manga already so you get the most scenes and not the cut ones up to 50% (i look like a manga promoter, yes)

i think they shoud've played it more with the music during frieda and grisha scene. now people might see grisha as a bad person but whats gonna stick in ass is what mikasa's gonna say

still a dope ep though 5/5

so i decided to read the manga seeing how every one's saying a lot of good stuff and dialogues were omitted in anime, but the order of events are completely different in the manga and some stuff that that will be animated later on, like the scene with historia and frieda, are shown earlier in manga, so i decided i'd read this arc after it was finished in anime. but if you say the order of events will be the same as manga from here on, i'd like to continue the manga version of this arc, there were so many good stuff, like the time levi tells historia for the first time that she's gonna be a Queen.

I can't answer you to that without talking about the titan shifters which is very spoilerish... But each titan shifter possesses a titan with it's own special ability. So, Frieda was just another person in the Reiss family to possess the titan with it's own special abilities. The reason it possess 3 abilities is just because it is supposed to be the strongest of all. They should touch that next episode or in the next after that. But yes, you're basically correct.

@xValorix
EDIT: I was wrong. After looking on AoT's wikia, I found out that the people that Reiner and Bertholt belong to call Frieda's titan "The Coordinate". I don't know how this pass through me while reading the manga.

Eren's dad's titan form looks similar to the big beast titan so I wouldn't be surprised if they're somehow related like a long-lost son or something/experiment gone wrong.

I'm still not even sure what this series is trying to achieve, it doesn't do a very good job of developing characters or anything. It just feels like one random revelation after another but it doesn't actually mean anything. :/

It's still better than the last season though and the next episode looks like it'd be good fun.

Though I'll say that I wasn't prepared for another branch of power of manipulating memories. But hey, I won't knock it depending on how it plays out in the future.

That is the point though, you're just starting to see the bigger picture here, and the more episodes goes by, the bigger the picture becomes.

It only feels random, because you forgot a lot of foreshadowing in season 1 and 2, that if you watch now will make you say '' now that scene long ago makes sense now''

About developing characters, this season and the following season will focus a lot on developing the characters, take Historia for example, she was a background character in season 1, now look where she is now, and her development is just about to begin, that's just how this series is, it takes its time to develop its characters.

People need to keep in mind, that it is a lot more harder to develop characters when there is constant threat of the titan, now that the titan has taken the back seat, the characters are getting their chance to shine, like Erwin for example.

As a manga reader I can already say with confidence that when this series is over, and people are talking about the snk characters or in reviews, they will say that the characters weren't all well develop in season 1 and 2, but in season 3 and 4, if it is the final season, the characters will make huge development.

As a German speaker and after hearing it in this episode mutliple times, the family name Reiss is pronounced wrong, assuming it should be German. It is like in Reis (variant) and Ei. There is even an example in wiktionary.
