Ah, we get a lot more focus on Diana this episode. The idea of Diana leaving the academy felt rather surprising and it looks like she wasn't happy herself about it.

I found it amusing how Akko encounters Andre again while hitchhiking.

Also really interesting glimpse of the Cavendish family. Quite a noble family indeed although I do find some of their family members to be arrogant.

Seems Diana has more trouble than expected.
The family issues run deep and her aunt doesn't seem intend on following her heritage of being a witch.
This could get very complicated.

I love the face that Akko had when Diane was standing up to her Aunt. It was so "oh crap, what did I just step into".

Looking forward to the subtitles, but it seems that Diane has finally stepped up into the role I thought she would have. Loved how Akko was talking about the rabbit, but Diane was scared about revealing her true treasure. Also loved how irritated she got at her relatives blatant pandering.

This is why I have always loved Diane. In a world where everyone disrespects magic, she has been fighting the fight against great odds the longest. This is why she both loves and hates Akko (the love was revealed when she defended Akko when her family started to dish her). Diane is so lonely for someone, who like Charlot, loves and respects magic, that she keeps hoping that Akko will be that person. While she does not doubt Akko's "love", she is disappointed about her "respect". But that is soon to be resolved and will be a pleasure to see.

Lots of focus on Diana in this episode. Her family will be in trouble if she doesn't do the ritual or her aunt will be the new family head. Her aunt is an idiot. Akko isn't happy about Diana leaving the academy. Her encounter with Andrew was funny.

Okay so Diana is leaving Luna Nova, and we find out her mother wanted her to revive the words and Akko was the chosen one, knowing that now and looking back their past encounters, I have even more respect for Diana, I always respected that she maturing Akko was the chosen one, but knowing what I know now, even more respect that she didn't turn on Akko and try to steal the Shinning rod, most people in her situation would have snapped. Is Trigger trying to kill me with cuteness, first Constanze from last episode and now little Diana she is adorable.

Hannah and Barbara even they might be some development, and Akko is determine to bring back Diana, where if I heard that before, well Akko do that in 2 episodes and not take who knows how long like a certain blond haired raman eating person, and unlike in that situation, Diana is some worth bring back, not some psychopath who murdered a bunch of people. And seeing Akko and Diana confrontation on the balcony, it shows one thing they do have in common and why they are always clashing heads, they are both stubborn, once they set their minds to it, they don't back down.

And Diana's family, her aunt and her cousins, now I know why she tolerates Hannah and Barbara and their antics, compared to her family, Hannah and Barbara are actually nice.

Finally we see Diana stand for Akko which is great, it is nice that she did that, but still she stands against her family, but lets Hannah and Barbara do what they please, well maybe this little arc gets Diana some development in when they do comeback to Luna Nova, next time Hannah and Barbara try to pull any crap she will step in, though if Akko brings back Diana, I don't think that would be a problem anymore, I don't think they will pick on Akko anymore.

And everyone thought we were going to be get a betrothed plot with Andrew or Diana, or Andrew and one of Diana's cousin, no it is just a garage sale. Maybe one day. BTW I am betting Croax is behind those soccer riots, though in real life do we need magic tubes to get European soccer fans to riot. It will be funny gag at the end, if it is revealed Croax had nothing to do with the soccer riots.

So confirmed Diana has the last card, who didn't see that coming, that is as obvious as Chariot's identity. Speaking of which, what will happen first, will Akko find out Diana is a closet Chariot fan and has the last card, or Akko find out Ursula is Chariot, or neither, which would really piss me off.

So how is this going to get resolved, how will get Diana back to Luna Nova and save the Cavendish family. Maybe Aunt Daryl will have a face turn, maybe Diana's mother ghost will comeback and scare her into being good. That would be great or we can at least trick into thinking Diana's mother ghost is haunting her.

So great episode and can't wait to see what happens in episode 20.

Loving how we're getting more focus on character's lives outside of Luna Nova. Diana has consistently been one of my favourite characters so far, and this sort of thing is exactly why.

If there is one downside, it's Diana's aunt. I don't disagree with her motives or actions for the family but the way she's presented makes her seem like a cartoon villain. When I saw a snake slide under her dress and those red eyes, I was trying my hardest not to snigger.

As a side note, Andrew and Akko must have some kind of red-string-of-fate attachment to run into each other by chance as often as they do. And finally, I wonder if this show is going to make a reference to Terry Pratchett and how he writes witches. I would be ecstatic if a future episode featured headology in some way.

Good damn episode. Getting it back on track feels good. Good character motivated plot with the themes of the overarching narrative firmly but subtley in the background.. THIS is what i wanted from the last few episodes. excluding last week. cause damn those TTGL and NGE references made me so happy.
Diana's story is tragic but damn its so good to see her be THIS mature. what a legend.

I'm guessing the next word will have something to do with Diana however, I feel like the plot behind the words is really dragging out, I do think it's good they're delving into characters lives/issues however I swear Akko hated Diana now she has a sudden interest.

This show would be better with some Yuri action (Not a personal fan)

Maybe if Daryl showed any feeling that she had to sell out like desperate times and all, but she showed no remorse at all which is why she is the worst. Chess set and candle are fine enough but the literal symbol of your house is going to far to be perfectly fine with selling.
Also why the Hambridges. They might be distantly? related but the currently head is publicly known as anti-witch so I don't see how they invisioned it going well.
Also the twin Cavendish morphs annoy me. I'm getting a Cinderella vide from these new guys.
I hate Daryl and co.

At least Akko was cute this episode especially loved the hitch-hike scene. Diana also now finially showed her love for chariot.
Speaking of the hitch-hike scene, the football riot must be leading up to something.
One more thing with the dress scene. Is Akko supposed to be petite or was Diana a fast grower? She does look a little small compared to the others in this episode.

Nice episode. Diana leaving Luna Nova.
Akko not about to let her go.

Oh snap Diana's got the Shiny Chariot card. Akko would freak if she saw that.

I'm very happy that Diana's arc will be longer than one ep. It seems pretty clear where the end point for this arc is but I'm still a little unsure of how we'll get there.
I enjoyed this ep far more than the recent eps, which is relieving seeing as how Diana's development was the thing I was most excited for when I heard about the TV adaptation.

Can't wait for next week

Oh nice, finally we get some episodes focused on Diana. She's barely had any screen time as of late but she still remains my favorite. I'm feeling like Akko and Diana will finally properly bond during this small arc.

Just like Akko, I'm wondering if her Aunt really is all that bad a person. I wonder if there's more to it. Well, whatever the case, it seems like it'll revolve around Diana's mother, maybe.

Akko's "HITCHHIKE!" was truly adorable, although it almost failed on her though. XD

Anyway, we've finally have Diana getting her screentime again and it's sad to see her in the position she's in right now. Having no choice but to leave Luna Nova, the place that she enjoyed being a student of, to take the head of the family that's been placed into disarray from her greedy aunt, Daryl.

Speaking of Daryl, the two Cavendish girls next to her (Daryl's daughters maybe?) act almost similar to Hannah and Barbara in personality. -__-

Daryl's biggest mistake is to try to sell off the family's most treasured heirloom for the pursuit of money. At least Andrew's father did the right thing, for once, in rejecting the offer and walking out as well.

I'm happy that this arc will continue in the next episode, as I believe it will lead to the fifth word coming out. Also, did Diana collect Chariot cards as a kid before? If so, then it'll be interesting to see if Akko finds out about this too...

Seemed so. Dunno if you missed it, but she was also in the background at Chariot's performance as kid, in the first(?) episode.

Guess she used to be a big Chariot fan as well before her family name started weighing down on her

That must've slipped from my mind I guess. ^^;

It makes me hope more than ever that Akko will somehow able to find out more of Diana's past and maybe about the fact that Diana was a Chariot fan herself. If that happens, then the two can bond together and probably become friends. =)

Well at least in that case, you are talking about your husband ex and her daughter. Maybe there was jealousy there. But here that is your sister and her daughter, what the hell is wrong with you?

Who knows maybe next episode she will break down and reveal she was angry about her sister's death, and that is why she is the way she is.

Actually the way the plot is going, she has to turn good, for us to get Diana back to Luna Nova and her family in a secure place. That or maybe we have some lawyer to keep an eye on the estate while Diana is away.

I think the solution to all this is simple, Andrew's dad marries Diana's aunt, she becomes an Hanbridge and has no use for the Cavendish estate and leave it alone. Come on I am not the only one shipping those two. They deserve each other.

Funny, we asked for Diana and we GET Diana. The funniest of coincidences, no doubt. What's even more funnier is that Andrew and his dad's here too (I have, once again, coughed up blood out of sheer shock). The power of coincidences, man.

Of course, being an episode focused on Diana, the show pulled no punches. We learn more about Diana, we found out that she is a descendant of one of the Nine Olde Witches, she has a wonderful mother, she has a snaky bitch for an aunt, and that she lost her parents at a young age. So much info in only ONE episode. And on the subject of info, it's been confirmed, Andrew's father is basically the chairman of FIFA. Yup, I can already see where HE'LL be going. And I just can't help but smile a little at the little scenes, where Diana opens her box revealing a Shiny Chariot Card, and when Akko fits into Diana's (eleventh[!]) birthday dress SO WELL, it just goes to show how they were once, one and the same (presumably when Diana was eleven years old, it also adds to the fact that Akko, even when she grew up, still has her dreams from when she first saw Shiny Chariot). The show also gave us a pretty good cliffhanger to mark a thrilling prelude to a stormy family legacy. Of course, calling her aunt a bitch is an understatement, it's TOO easy to call her that anymore. She sells all of the Cavendish's rare treasures, JUST for herself, she looks down on her sister/-in-law(?) for being kind and affectionate, and I can only guess what she'll do next time. No, The appropriate word for hags like her should be....

Old Lady: NOOOO!

Okay, I won't. Yeesh! Just using a term not many people use on those who have risen beyond bitches that's all. Is it so hard to call her a c....

Mismagius: DON'T YOU DARE!!!

But let's look at the funny bits for now, my favourite part about this post. Notice that the candle is made from the scale of the seventh Cavendish's favourite mermaid; And she gave them her consent to pluck her bloody scales out of her body? YEOWCH!! And the real tragedy is that Andrew's father didn't even buy it! WHY? A mermaid got her scales painfully and begrudgingly plucked out of her body just to make this candle, why not use it for party tricks, or some shit? And speaking of his dad, why did he let Akko in? Granted, you can make the argument that Andrew let her in, but his father could easily have kicked her out. I wonder.....

Andrew: Well, we'll just see what Miss Daryl has to say and then we'll....Wait a min...AKKO?!?!

Andrew's Father: What about her? Let's leave her be. She's nothing more than a useless witch.

Andrew: It looks like she's hitchhiking for a ride? Perhaps her destination isn't far from ours?

Andrew's father: Andrew, I will not have you pick up hitchhiking vagabonds into our car. Especially after she (remnants of the love poison kicks in and his scandalous memories return)
...................You know what, I'm feeling generous today.

You know, just speculation is all.

I think that is suppose to be a joke on how much more physical developed Diana is than Akko. Speaking of which if Akko can fit into 11 year old Diana's dress, what does that compare with Amanda. What clothing can present day Akko fit when it comes into Amanda, 8 year old Amanda, 9 year old Amanda?

Would be a interesting dilemma if Diana's aunt don't be represented as such a villain...

I mean, considering the situation, Daryl's decisions are pretty reasonable... (selling old stuff and all... ). But, they put in a way that is like she want to get rid of those things (and upset Diana) only because she is evil and greedy (and not because is needed to the family to survive in these times where magic is less and less relevant)... Diana assuming as the head of the family seems to be the resolution to all problems, but this don't change anything about the family's situation

this aside, is great to see more development to Diana...
and, probabily the next word will be that thing Diana's mother said in the flashback, when she was talking about Beatrix

Maybe you're right about her feeling about her sister blinding her, but they are descended from one of the 9 greatest witches ever. Her selling the tapestry is like Queen Elizabeth selling the crown jewels. The age of witches might be dying out but a prestigious family like theirs should come with more pride.

I don't know about her being good, maybe a redemption with her having good intentions, but not a full face heel turn.

Honestly I kinda hated Akko's way of doing things this episode. Always trying to get things done her way, despite whatever consequences other people have to face. She clearly didn't belong in the Cavendish household, as you could see the constant look of her being uncomfortable. humph. Either way, liked the focus on Diana...

I don't know anyone had noticed something about the scene but it's quite or so similar:

In this both pictures, you can tell that in right hand picture where Diana is crossing her arms and left hand picture, Aunt Daryl does the same was well but even so. The characters are particularly mirrored and if you look back in latest episodes, you will be interested/surprised that each scenes you see characters behavior and attitudes are the same.

Well I could see in the climax we cut back to a bunch of old characters to see what they are doing while all this madness is going on, maybe they are together having a meeting, so being in danger together, brings them closer together.

I don't want Diana to leave either, because it reminds me this series will end soon.

It's not disdain Diana, just calling out BS when she sees it. This is where Diana misunderstands Akko the most. The only times Akko is shown being against tradition is when it's outright stupid and promoting the pecking order (Saimhain festival), or hindering from finding a better solution (the Faeries' strike). Akko doesn't hate tradition, she hates when others are obsessively following tradition to the point of lunacy. Magic is dying because most witches are too caught up in following tradition that they have effectively fallen behind and isolated themselves from the rest of the world. That's why it's important that Akko is the definitive "outsider". She doesn't have the natural talent of being a witch, but brings that outsider's perspective that's needed to bring change to a stagnant climate.

I like what they've done with Akko. This would have been like every underdog story ever if the series focused on Akko improving her magic to the point she reached Diana's level, with a final confrontation. Akko's character has a different role, touching other lives and inspire change in them, which will inspire change in the world. The earliest example is Andrew and developed a friendship with him over their few encounters. Her roommates became her close friends that believe in her during the Saimhain festival. Akko knows that accomplishment couldn't have been done by herself, and it's been ingrained in her, even showing that to Constanze in episode 18.

The series tackles the theme of one person being able to accomplish great things, and shreds it. The golden era of magic wasn't brought about by one witch, but nine of them. And everyone that is shouldering things on their own are either unhappy or villainous. Chariot has ended up in hiding; Croix machinations are only going to mess up things. And Diana, Luna Nova had such high hopes for her that she would be the one to save the magic crisis and the school, showering her with all their expectations and special privileges, and regarding her as the "star" of the Luna Nova, only for their precious model student to have to leave due to extenuating circumstances. Akko's going to bring her about, but still, the risk was there that the teachers would lose Diana, and to them, the chance to save the school and magic, because they put all their lot on just one student.
