That was a really great episode. The Major backstory was truly beautiful. I really want to know who that young boy is now. I don't think it's Batou, because it look like he was still searching her. Makoto lived through some hard stuff...

Will there be a new member in the Section 9? It could be interresting. I don't think they did that badly, I mean even batou couldn't follow her in that strange place.

The OST was also really good.

As far as who the boy might be, who remembers this from episode 5?

Yeah, that's... spot on :P

I remember watching this episode a few years back and just stopping watching the series here, because I knew I wouldn't see an episode this beautiful that could top it. Sometimes the stories that are predictable manage to surprise us in the way they make us feel. Truly a piece of art in this anime. Never felt that way before.

Episode sweet and poignant, that breaks the rhythm.
Brief that has no impact on the main theme.
Episode in which the protagonist, going by logic, the Major and his past.
Technique, narration, graphics and OST optimal level, perhaps only the designs are a step lower in some places, but you can also fly over.
Curious to know the identity of the boy.

Wow. I don't know what else to say than, wow.

It's funny. I recently wrote a blog about the nostalgia GITS:SAC recently brought to me and I decided to watch 2nd GIG because I really didn't get a very good chance to watch it when it was airing on Adult Swim.

I got to this episode and boy, do I feel ashamed I didn't put in more of an effort to watch 2nd GIG. This was by far one of the most touching single anime episodes I've ever watched. There was a lot of context to this episode and the nice thing about it is unlike most GITS:SAC episodes, it's rather simple.

We already knew from the first season that Motoko was incredibly young when she received her first prosthetic body and that she had a hard time controlling it. We learned from this episode not only what led up to that, but discovered her inspiration and what drove her. I can only assume that part of the reason why the boy wasn't able to track her down was due to Motoko's heavy military involvement that probably kept her on the move and made it difficult to track.

This episode really brought a tear to my eye because it clearly showed the the two loved each other and that more times than not, first loves never work out...but you always carry with you the feelings and memories you had for your first love.

Powerful, powerful episode.

This was such a nice episode.

So... The little girl was actually a younger Motoko. It's nice to have a little story about her past, because I totally didn't expect one.

Definitely the best episode of season 2 so far. Didn't expect to get major's backstory this episode but was not disappointed. I'm sure I know who that boy is and I'll be shocked if I'm wrong.

Also it's good to know that the major had feelings for someone before.

Well, I think the same as you, but the show doesn't really tells you that out loud. We, as in you and I, can only implie that. I believe is him, but I'm not 100% sure, who knows.

The Major has her caring side, as seen here and the Arise series, but she's pretty unconventional about that. I like how this episode its executed, far from cliches and moving along the tone of the GITS universe.

This was touching, great episode. And while Batou was still dishonest towards Motoko in the end, he at least was honest with himself and changed how to treat the recruits.
I'm still confused how the "hack" on Motoko worked, though, and how she vanished on the stairs. Did all the other people beside Motoko get hacked?

I have a question....

Why couldn't she tell the boy who she was? What was her reason?

Now I have seen the entire show, but never felt like I got an answer on that one. I would very much like to know, so I hope some of you guys might be able to ease my mind.

In advance thanks for any replies

My take on the issue is that she didn't want to make him feel that he had been folding all those cranes for naught (as she was alive the whole time) and lose the will to go on (as folding cranes was what kept him going).

All art is manipulative and some people just need more convincing than others. The emotions that are evoked are equally genuine though, so I wouldn't begrudge people for them. In the end, I suppose it's what you're looking for in a story. We've gone on for a season and a half following these characters and it's nice to see a heartfelt story of their past, relevant or not. (In this case, it did at least shed light on her origin story).

Very sweet, and sad... Motoko loved him. I hope she finds the boy some day...
And when she made the crane at the end... ;o;

This Motoko is the best version of her. She actually has humanity.

A really nice backstory for Motoko, been looking forward to something like this.

This idea is kind of far-fetched, but towards the end of the episode I couldn't help feeling that Batou may be the boy from this episode? I'm most likely wrong but that's just the feeling I got.

you are so used to seeing Motoko hacker who does not perform que she was Actually hacked Motoko was the victim of a hacker, remember how she climbs the she stairs tries to talk to the Batou but can not, it is a mysterious place, recruits not find it after the staircase, nor the Batou at a later scene Which of the conclusion que her body went into a kind of hiding after the staircase and his mind was hacked probably by Kuze who remembered her after the attack on japan premie where it meets the kuse but she does not know who he is this episode and it at the beginning of the series.
Conclusion: Motoko was the victim hacker by Kuze made que remember the memories lost a long time.

I would have to rewatch that episode. What I meant was that I don't think she was hacked by Kuze. I also don't know which scene you are talking about where she would try and talk to Batou. I can't recall that. Wasn't he tailing her and she vanished? I think it's pretty clear that at least everybody else got hacked while going through that place. If not they would have seen Motoko. Now, I'm not sure whether Motoko was hacked or not. It's possible she was. Maybe it was a two-sided issue. We can't say for sure. But I'm fairly sure Kuze himself has nothing to do with it. He is not a hacker.

I was right, the Kuze is not just a hacker and also and a great conscience, the major tries to hack her celebrate but not conssegue in particular episode he deceives major, I was always sure that was never a common episode but the major was being victim of a hacker attack made by Kuze

Kind of melodramatic but it was still very nice to see a character-driven episode that wasn't centered around batou or togusa
"I like young-girl sexual creations, Lolicon is just one hobby of my many hobbies," he says.
I ask what his wife, standing nearby, thinks of his "hobby".
"She probably thinks no problem," he replies. "Because she loves young boys sexually interacting with each other."

wow... I was literally going to make this comment again (3 years after my first watch)...

The way I interpret it this time, I bet the boy (man) set it up so that if someone followed a certain procedure (bouncing ball etc.) then they would be able to enter that shop/dimension. I don't think that shop exists in the real world.

--> And this is actually a really relevant episode for later development.

Consider me floored.
That origami crane part was so touching and thoughtful. If there was one gripe I had is that it was rather easy to tell that the full body prosthetic in the car looked like Motoko, so it took away some of the surprise factor.
