Ah, the production of "Mobile Suit Gundam" - a series I will probably never jump into due to the vast amount of content it has.

The key frames are interesting to look at.

Don't really understand why 35 year-old key-frames are being shown off besides the geek-factor Gundam has in Japan. I thought this was supposed to be a spotlight on new animators?

It's divided into many manageable pieces...the first series is only 43 episodes, and the best series, Gundam 0080, is only six. There isn't even that much in the way of connections between even the ones that use the same setting, let alone the ones that just use "Gundam" as a marketing brand.

Weakest episode of the series so far; only presenting the key frames of "Mobile Suit Gundam." I was expecting something unique.

I have a personal guideline to watch as well as finish the entirety of series in chronological release order whenever possible, so it becomes very much unmanageable for me if I do choose to start watching the "Gundam" franchise.

I actually liked it. It was interesting to see part of the process of putting together scenes and battles, and considering how big of a cultural phenomenon the Gundam series is, it's a nice little salute to one of the biggest inspirations in anime.

A lot of the clips were from Encounters In Space so it's not all 35 year old animation, some of it's 32 years old :p

Personally I recommend the movies instead of the TV series for reasons of canon and cutting down on some of the stuff the toy company basically forced into the series that is now de-canonized.

The movies are better than the TV series (and the Gundam: The Origin manga is better than both), but being so interested in "canon" is fruitless nerdiness. It's not like the discrepancy between the movie and TV version of the story are brought up by any other Gundam story.

And now I've written a whole post that doesn't actually have anything to do with the piece of animation we watched. Shows how interesting it was, I suppose.

Never seeing Gundam this would be better if the re-done animation was done in full screen.

That was kinda nice, not as good as other episodes, but still interesting, and it´s nice to see how the how anime is made. I should already watch Gundam.

Also, nice, Nihon Animator Mihonichi just got into top 1000 anime on MAL and is also 10th best rated ONA.

They didn't re-animate anything for this. It's just an exhibition of production materials alongside the finished product.

That's just what it looked like. Nothing redone. I think that's supposed to kind of be the point though in a way.

Best episode yet, but I guess that's not too difficult when nobody in this studio can craft a compelling story.

I was funny watching this today, when earlier today I finished the second 0079 compilation movie. But that's some classic animation. Computer drawn just isn't the same thing.

This felt... misplaced. After last night's Whitebox episode, I was slightly more interested in key frames but overall this wasn't very captivating.

Interesting watch from a technical point of view, my least favourite of the bunch so far though because it wasn't that entertaining. I'd have liked to still watch this but not inside this animation showcase :P

The whole thing is called "animator exhibition" and people are wondering what the point is? This gives insight into the process of creation of an anime, something I would expect at an exhibition.

I found this episode searching for some Anno's Gundam related works. Currently reading The Origin, I found Hideaki Anno's piece of text at the end of the first hardcover volume so it is not a surprise to see this short key frames showcase assembled by Anno and included in this collection.
Strangely, I felt something was missing in each animated rendition of Amuro and Sayla, compared to their nice portrayal in the key-frames.

Oh wow, that was a real treat. I'm so happy I went through Mobile Suit Gundam before this.

Not too much to say for this episode, but I'm always amazed at the differences between the initial planning stages and the final product for any anime. Mobile Suit Gundam is no exception here, as the difference between simple line work and call outs for movement to all the flash and liveliness of the anime is present even in this 1970s series. It really makes me appreciate the work that goes into present-day anime even more with the translation from hand to computer.

Gosh, the first Gundam anime was so good... and then I tried getting into Zeta and it just wasn't doing it for me anymore.

Looking at this again, though... I can really see some of the reasons why I loved that first series.

Part of me wants to go through all of the Universal Century timeline, just to see it through properly... but part of me also just wants to skip ahead to the really critically acclaimed stuff like War in the Pocket or 08th MS Team.

I'm not really a fan of Gundam but seeing the how the hand-drawn animation works is a little interesting to say the least.

But compared to the other entries, this looks a tad out of place.
