----------------------------------------
"Masai's Heart"

ZZ has taken on a serious and reflective tone ever since it arrived in Africa. This is the 3rd consecutive ep where the misfortunes of African populace has been highlighted.

While devotion can prove to be wonderful thing, the beautiful young Masai takes it to the extreme. Attacking the Gundam Team w/ a single Gelgoog (one of my fav mech designs by the way). Honestly I was more disgusted by the AEUG pilots. Masai did a hell of a job & really made them look incompetent. Too bad she's so screwed up as she has a sad ending @ the end of this ep.

I believe Tomino directed these eps. So let me say, thank you Tomino. Thank you for helping us realize that while we were cheering on the awesomeness of the desert battles of 0079 & Zeta, countless civilian lives were being crushed as well. The guy never forgets to make a point.

I completely agree, I never thought ZZ would become so serious after all I've heard about it. Probably the people who dropped it and bashed it never reached the 20's episodes. Btw new opneing, nothing special, still better than the ridiculous inicial ZZ OP xD

Oh and ZZ is just getting better and better, it looks like a c ompletely different series after the slow paced and goofy (still rather funny) first part, and I can say it's becoming a rather entertaining and engaging series. And it will get better (after seeing the next episodes, I can only say that)

Nice episode was this again. ZZ continues to amaze me episode by episode and I like the way it handles the poor civilians circumstances in this war~

I for one am against the new direction ZZ is taking. I liked the gooyfyness, especially because it seemed to reflect life. Life isn't all serious, so if gundam follows the lives of individual pilots, why should it be so serious? Not that I'm complaining; gundam is good serious or slapstick.

I don't think Mashymere or Glemy represented real life soldiers very well. Not everything may be serious, but real life war always is, especially when a bunch of kids are forced to fight. ZZ is still funny anyway: everyone bickers over water while Puru just pours it over her head, team of mobile suits rush upon a humble religious village and see cheering kids pour out.

ZZ is going at a good pace right now. I'd like to see an overall story eventually, but it's no problem for these one-offs to continue a while longer.

I miss the old OP.

I'd have to say that ZZ definitely got better as it went along.

Ominous ending.
Masai held her own though.

When I didn't hear Anime Ja Nai! anymore I had to pause and sit in silence for a little bit while reflecting over my life.

The new OP was good, but the new ED was crap.

For the ep, I liked seeing the girls fight and my dislike of Puru only continues to grow. Overall, it's another ep that seems pointlessly dark. Sure the fight was pretty good, but there are a good amount of options for the gang and Masai to do yet they did none of them. There's at least 5 easy questions I could ask but the anime is too lazy to answer or expand on yet I'm supposed to care? Not the hallmarks of what I would consider a "good" show.

I also find Judau to be irritating as well in his continuous need to not listen and only see everything in his narrow POV. But, not as irritating as Kamille, thank goodness.

I still dislike and find Puru annoying, she's like that clingy little sister type and she's not even Judau's real sister (which he's still trying to rescue but just apparently forgot it this episode).

Sidenote: I lost count how many times Puru yelled after Judau this episode.

I love the new opening, already rewatched it like 5 times.

I actually found the ending here more ambiguous than anything else, sure it ended on a pretty depressing note but at least she's still alive, and with the Gelgoog destroyed maybe she can let go and move on or maybe she killed herself the second the credits started rolling, could go either way.

Amazing episode!

Love the new opening and the new ending isn't bad! Nice to see Gundam RX-78-2 all the way to Double Zeta!

This Masai girl reminds me of the female pilots Amuro and Kamille fought over the course of the series. I really thought Judau would have left her dead and that would have been better imo. But glad Puru helped saved her at the end.

Still Masai did good going against Zeta, Hyaku Shiki and Gundam Mk II, though if Kamille, Char, Emma were in the seat she would have not lasted for a minute.

I hope to see more dark scenes soon!

Can't wait for the next episode!

One of my favorite anime openings ! Even though I just got to the point in zz gundam where the 2nd op plays, I discovered it on YouTube 6+ years ago so I've already put it on my phone long ago and listen to it a bunch of times . Although anime ja nai is still a pretty good opening and catchy .

It's amazing that girl was able to fight so well against the gundam team her husband? Must have taught her really well for her to give them such a serious challenge in an outdated mobile suit. Well it also helped that pretty much all the pilots of the gundam team except for Ruex are so impossibly naive and enexperienced they could not figure out that all the traps were land based and kept walking into traps time after time it was hard for me to watch that level of incomptenece with top tier mobile suite like hyaku shiki and zz gundam

"This is not anime" no more. The new opening is less catchy but better.

Vengeful lover episode remotely connected to the One Year War. Judau tried to talk to her but it was Ple who pushed him to save her.
Wondering if Elpeo Ple will stay in the ‪Gundam‬ Team (I hate this name, it makes an even more super-heroic/sentai impression) or go back to Neo-Zeon for another brainwashing session. I really don't understand why people would have problems with her presence in the show, she's a lot more understandable than two other stupid characters in the team, or I might be blind because I pity her (like the previous CyberNT) and am already glad that there is still no omen of her comeback to Zeon/death/whatever bad ending.
I liked the relatively ambivalent end (alive but empty) who contrasts with Judau's successful save of the opponent, his optimism and the global tone of the third series. I don't remember any dissonant outcome in Zeta, everything seemed as desperate and doomed as the gloomy ambiance lead to think. (despite how hard Camille tried to fight this)

After the Zaku, nice to see a Gelgoog despite how outdated it is.

I found the ending visuals almost ugly, but the history of the Gundam models was a good idea.

4.5/5

Four's returning seiyû as Masai was surprising but seems like no one else noticed. Edit: I checked and it is indeed her. (but I didn't hear the similarity between Emma Sheen and Liina)

I vastly prefer the new OP to be honest: not that Anime Ja Nai was bad per se, but it reminded me too much of the time when the show was utter crap and I'd rather forget about it altogether if I can.

I've really been enjoying those Africa-focused episodes, to the point that I might even say they've been the most interesting Earth-related episodes I've seen from the main UC titles thus far. Simply showing how painful it can be to keep going after the war has already damaged your life beyond all possible repair is a much more effective way to get the audience to care about the series' anti-war message than throwing a bunch of insane Cybernewtype women doomed by fate at us like Zeta did.
Masai handling the Gundam team with an outdated Gelgoog was pretty badass too: makes you wonder how ridiculously overpowered she would've been if she was piloting a Gundam herself (Mondo probably would've been killed at least three times).

However, the highlight of this episode (if I can even call it that) was definitely its depressing resolution. Instead of sacrificing herself in an ultimate act of complete selflessness for the love of her man like all those Zeta chicks did before her, Masai was actually saved; but her mind was already broken. And yet she has to keep living, when her very reason to live and to fight is already lost. I can hardly express how much gloomier this is compared to the end of all those cyber/newtypes in the prequel, whom at least in death got to share an eternal interdimensional bond with the person they perished for.
That might be the first time Tomino and his team actually went down that road, and I can't help but commend them for that.

SACRILEGE!! UTTER SACRILEGE!!

PS: About "Silent Voice", I originally felt that while the song itself was quite good, they could probably have used a more talented singer; but later on I realized that this was really Haman Karn's song of sorrow, and given that the singer actually sounds quite a lot like her, it kinda worked out well that way.

Another good episode highlighting the tragedy of people clinging to the memories of war. And Masai even survived! Though I guess it'll be pretty hard for her to move on.
Very pleased to hear a jazz track here, too. Suits the tone of the episode perfectly.

I also appreciated the quarrel over water between our heroes, heat really melts your brains :0

New OP is great, and the music in new ED is also pretty nice and melancholic. Though visually I liked the old ED more.
