Please, No Spoilers!!!!!
I've had my big fucking share of them already!
Basically that, I've heard a lot of people thrashing this show because they expected a harem comedy.
I've got no problem with watching something different, but apparently this show is way beyond what normal anime depicts.
If it is going to get me down and depressed, is it at least be worth watching?
I'm pretty sure people hate the show because the characters are horrible people. I found it more hilarious than depressing though, but I guess once the drama kicks in...Well...Even then I'd say it's more rage-inducing than depressing. Still, definitely worth the watch if you're open to something different.
Don't worry, you will not feel depressed after watching this show. You will come to realize how garbage the characters are, so garbage that it's not worthy of influencing your mood. The show is pretty funny in my opinion.
to me no it wasnt depressing if its worth watching that i cant really tell you it up to you if you like it then keep watching it at least give it a couple of episode before you drop the anime or any anime for that matter
I'm not saying I'm gonna change the world, but I guarantee that I will spark the brain that will change the world..
I think the reason people hate on it so much is because the first episode fools you into thinking it's another cute little romance, probably a lovely little school slice-of-life harem like 90% of the other anime out there (it seems to me some of the time :|). In fact, this is probably the reason most people started watching it, with a name like "School Days."
Then when it turns out it doesn't fit their cute little image they rage and scream about how shit it is. I think it's a very good anime personally, one of my favorites, and very original.
It was one of my first anime (5 years ago) so it kinda depressed me for a couple days, not that so called "depression" of course but you know what I mean.
The ending song sealed the deal for me (I was not accustomed with that type of songs) but I do like those depressive songs now, they are pretty inspiring.
I'm sure I wouldn't be impressed if I saw it now for the first time though.
Depressing? More like rage filling. By episode 5 I hated Makoto so much I cringed whenever he appeared. I skipped the rest and went straight to the ending. I guess in the end

it all works out....
Apparently everyone was left with that rage. I guess I could handle that, though I still find it amazing that a show can make it's MC be hated so much, I suppose it was designed to be hated.
It's a lot like Shadow Star Narutaru. It gives you a sense of something usual and generic, lulling you into a sense of ho-um and complacency until things start spinning in a direction that doesn't seem to reflect the beginning episodes.
School Days is a lot like that. You go 'Dafuq was that?'
By the way, you could also watch Shadow Star Narutaru...hehehe
Vyudali said: I wouldn't say depressing, just more like infuriating at how things end if you liked a character in the show (particularly the mc).
In my opinion it was like watching the kids at my school and their drama, only with a really dramatic ending.
I personally thought it was pretty damn entertaining, and the ending made it worthwhile.
Is it possible to like the MC?
If you love polyamorous relationships like every other animal or most animals in the animal kingdom, then yes (and given that the female treasures dismemberment.)
Depressing? Not at all. However it still remains one of the worst things I have subjected myself to. Mars of Destruction is a masterpiece in comparison.
you need to watch it to understand, its not depressing it just really pisses you off the way the MC acts and views different things..
It's something you want to read the spoilers with or "like me" you will have trouble going through it lol.
The ending makes it all worth it and leave you gasping for a breath from a huge wtf turn.
But in the same turn, its kind of expected, or dare I say, wanted?
While the show wasn't depressing (just shocking), one ending in the novel actually was pretty depressive. In that ending, Makoto's actually the good guy. Sekai gets pregnant with Taisuke and claims that it's Makoto's kid (even though they didn't have sex according to what I played, but yeah bugs I guess). Makoto of course finds out that she got pregnant while she was dating Taisuke and refuses to raise his child, as he's a kid himself. Sekai gets butthurt and kills him after few years.
il just say that school days left me with anger and depression at the end but at first i liked it and then it kind of gets twisted so yeah up to you if u want to watch it
I didn't find it depressing at all. However I understand those who thought it was a depressing experience or whatever. I quite enjoyed the show, probably because I really couldn't take it seriously.
People hate it so much because of a sad ending with a sadistic plot.
If you saw a harem in real life, most people would feel jealous. They would get angry if the guy didn't notice their feelings and plays around. So why do people enjoy other harems such as To Love Ru/ most fan service anime so much?
That is what this anime was made for. It is one of a kind, must watch. It is THAT unique.
As for the ending, it is straight up sad, (95 percent of all anime seem to be happy or bittersweet endings, or not end at all)

That's what I though when I finished it. I wasn't sad, but I was angry through most of the show, like people predicted, and I actually liked the ending.
This anime is unique in that it shows how a harem would be and how it would end up in real life, plus a couple of good life lessons. I liked it, and loved the last scenes.
I must admit that I was pretty depressed after this one.
And not really because it was THAT bad, no.
I really hated how everybody in this anime are just bad people. I'm not only talking about the obvious one, Makoto. His best friend rapes girl with smile on his face, and probably every single girl in this show is a whore.
The only ones I could understand SOMEHOW, were Sekai, Kotonoha and Setsuna... Kinda.
Kotonoha - For me it's no.1 mentally sick anime character. It has decent reasons, at least - doesn't have any friends, all around are bullying her - even though she doesn't have much of personality, she's cute, innocent person - that is until Makoto comes in. Possibly worst choice for her. Because of featuring events she just breaks inside.
Sekai - Nice girl, which fell in love with wrong guy, one more time. I know that they are girls like her in reality - she loved Makoto, but didn't hate or was a bitch to Kotonoha. There are two obvious wrong choices she made:
- Why the hell she didn't made Makoto break out with Kotonoha before dating/doing stuff with her? I know that he was fucking coward, but if the whole thing would be only about her and Kotonoha, maybe the next events wouldn't happen.
- Didn't she knew that her best friend, Setsuna, was in love with Makoto? Then why did she asked her to exchange the sitting place with her? She isn't a person who would cheat on her close friend, at least I'd like to think so...
Setsuna - She was so cute, even though this anime was so fucked... The thing is, why would she want Makoto to take care about Sekai, when she CLEARLY knew, that he just want her body... If she did, she should have make Sekai break up with him, before she left to the France.
I'm not mentioning other characters, because rest of them were CLEARLY just a bitches who wanted sex. For example Hikari - she was friend of Sekai, and yet "she didn't mind sleeping with Makoto, but she thought, that he should talk to her". Same thing with Otome.
I don't even want to write about Makoto or his raping friend as well, it can just give me a headache...
Anyway, I'm glad that my school days aren't like those showed in this anime.
Btw., anyone here played the visual novel? I've been wondering, are there really good ends in this game? After anime I'm not even sure...
Also, is it true, that the game contains Kokoro and Sekai's mum routes? Jeez...

1.) I do have the VN and a lot of endings are good ends. Hell, there are only three death ends and a few breakup ends.
2.) That is the Cross Days VN, which is basically Makoto but replacing his blood with Viagra.

Hard to believe for the 1st one, but I'll probably check it, when I get over anime, at least ;) About the last sentence - I can somehow imagine it... :D Thanks, anyway.
