Well at least Ash is out of jail now. That was a hell hole for him tbh.

The bad news is that more bad guys are roaming the streets and they get into trouble with them. Eiji also gets involved in the trouble and he pays a bit for it.

Pretty tense episode. The investigation of the "Banana Fish" continues. I'm also kinda liking this dynamic between Ash, Eiji, and Max now that they are together.

Everything starts here.
Ash should get an Oscar for his 11/10 acting skills. And I can't say it didn't break my heart when Eiji asked if he can stay with him.
They skipped some scenes and made that one where Ash was shot less intense but this episode was still extremely intense. Ending made me cry, they just had to play ED song when Ash was crying, didn't they?
We'll see Cape Cod tomorrow. And no spoilers, really, but prepare a bunch of tissues. Actually, you will need tissues until last episode.

Oh, by the way: I can survive Shorter with hair (even though he's not almost-Saitama anymore, such a waste, he's even voiced by the same VA) but what they did to Charlie's appearance hurts me in many different ways.

Poor poor Ash, I really feel bad for him, that last scene was heartbreaking. He couldn't hold the tears anymore.

So far it is pretty okay anime. The both prison episodes were pretty the same so I am more than happy that Ash is out.

What a great episode, almost everything about it was a joy this time. I loved all the moments Eiji and Ash shared as they got even closer to each other, I'm glad that Dino was shot even though he deserves way more than a bullet for all the despicable, unforgivable crimes he has committed. Also, even if it was thanks to the interference of Shorter, Eiji still pulled that trigger, well, almost, and since things are bound to get even more ugly, it would be nice if this served somehow to strengthen his resolve, which is already pretty solid.

I loved how he was so glad when Ash allowed him to "stay by his side". I also already love Max, he reminds me so much of Poplin from Gineiden physically speaking, but I'm glad that's all the similarity they share. I can't get enough of this anime, even though that last scene with Ash crying as he thought about his brother was pretty heartbreaking.

Max done goofed. How could you leave out important details like that? All the cops and private investigators surrounding Ash and Eiji seem so incompetent. It reminds me of those stereotypical American cop films from the 80s to 90s.

Ash, how dare you tell your boyfriend to leave the car! D: Banana Fish is a drug, confirmed. I’m sure almost everyone knew by this point but it’s nice having confirmation from the big bad himself. Shorter is probably my third favorite. Ash is first (used to be together with Skip), Eiji and Max are second and third is Shorter but I’m putting him on second place together with Eiji and Max. So that girl at the Chinese restaurant was Shorter’s sister. Eiji is packing heat boys, step aside.

I’m disappointed they didn’t show Shorter’s Chinese breakfast :( Chinese food is one of my ultimate favorites. I like even more than Korean and Japanese food. MAX IS BACK! How did he escape from prison or was he released? SHORTER IS A FUCKING BOSS. The way he shot that guy while Eiji hesitated. Dayuuum. Also, Max punching out Ash was awesome. All of my favorites are working together. This series just gets better and better.

The series appears to be 24 episodes, do you think they'll adapt all of the manga? The pacing feels quite quick so I get a feeling that they might.

Yes, they are going to adapt the manga in its entirety. At the pace they're going, they should be able to; however, they might need to speed through some content later since they actually got through the early portion slower than I thought they should have. For reference, we are halfway-ish through volume 4 currently (out of 19 volumes). It's kind of unfortunate since I was hoping that they'll adapt some of the side stories, specifically Garden of Light since it serves as a very good epilogue. Maybe a few OVAs will also be released so that everything related to Banana Fish will be fully adapted.

When they were talking about a plan to get closer to Dino, I was expecting something like an infiltration or something a bit more subtle... not Ash and co. trying to run over him with a fucking truck xD Sure, it was intense and all that but I must say It took me off guard.

That aside, I really like Shorter, being honest. I liked his personality and how friendly he can be although he won't hesitate in killing to protect his people. However, I have an strange feeling about him... based on the OP, I'm not really sure if I should fully trust in him.

Overall, it was a good episode. Really looking forward to seeing this Cape Cod place where Ash and Griffin grew up.

Well, Ash is now out of prison. Yay. That place was awful.

Thanks to Max, Ash knows it was Dino’s doing that got his brother killed. So of course he wants Dino dead. With the help of Eiji and Shorter, he goes after Dino which I thought was just a little bit dumb. I’m glad he was at least able to get a shot on Dino. If only he could’ve killed him..

Max gets out of prison and goes after Ash, knowing just what he’ll do. Thankfully he gets to him and the others in time, getting them away from Dino and taking them to his secret hideout.

It was so sad to see Ash cry. I guess he hasn’t really had the chance to properly grieve for his brother.

Those journalists are probably biting off from what looks like more than they can chew. Griffin's old buddy is another story, he was in the navy so he could take on some action, but those other two, as much thrill they add to the story, really need to cope down for a bit, not only their faces and identity is in danger, but also their families, you never know how these big mafia families do it, but when they want somebody dead, you can almost swear they have the government's backing up.
Ash is taking a lot on him, it's hard the way he looks older, but being 17, that's so young, and the guy can hold some real tears in public, when he's crying alone, he reminds me of when Kyros (One Piece from the Dressrosa arc) was crying alone behind a boulder at the end of the arc, that takes a lot you know.
I just noticed this, I thought his voice sounded familiar, but I just made sure. Max is voiced by Hirata Hiroaki, the same voice actor that does Sanji from One Piece, I really can't unhear now.

I checked my record, and I saw episode four on Sat. July 28, 2018. Wow, it's been close to a year since I last saw this! I'm glad I didn't need to re-watch the last four episodes to recap. x))

Anyways, I like that the ending theme song was playing softly in the background towards the end. It's tragic that Ash is so young (it's easy to forget our protagonist is only 17), and he shoulders so much on his own... :'( When Ash cried on the rooftop while the sun was setting, that was finally time for him to mourn over Griffin... Ash cared about his brother the most, and I'm curious what Ash will do after he avenges the deceased....?

Eiji is gaining courage as well, like when he drove away, despite Ibe and Charlie trying to stop Ash from pursuing Dino. And I'm glad Shorter is an ally here, and he even shot on Eiji's behalf when our protagonist hesitated :((

Even though Dino didn't die, I'm glad to at least see him shot lol. It's disgusting and incredibly sad that Dino sells children! @_____@ Dino confirmed this episode that Banana Fish is a drug, which we know killed Griffin. When Ash said Dino uses a drug on the children and they only live a few years, which is how human trafficking is kept a secret, I'm guessing Banana Fish is used on the children then. :/

I can't unhear Hosoya as Arthur!! XDD But anyway, Arthur working with Dino and even shooting Ash... ;/ Will Arthur stay as the villain forever?

It was impulsive of Ash to stand on the truck Shorter drove (with Eiji also in the car) and shoot Dino, but I guess people don't always think straight when they're seeking revenge. >< Thank goodness Max punched Ash, which knocked Ash out and stopped our protagonist from being reckless. I hope everyone gets a good rest at Max's hideout!

I really like the pacing of events so far. Characters are interesting, and I care about their goals and feelings. I'm actually surprised the popularity isn't a bit higher. I'm wondering if people skip over it due to the shoujo tag.

People skipped over it because originally MAL had mistakenly tagged it as "yaoi". It was too late even after it was corrected and still wouldn't touch it for BL themes.Which says a lot about the MAL staff and the majority of the users seemingly very homophobic.

Ah, thanks for the explanation. That does make more sense in context of the previous tag, unfortunately.

"He didn't seem to want to go home"

"I guess home isn't something you want to remember if you ran away from it"

Things are just starting. Sad to see how Ash couldn't catch a break. There is always some shit thrown at him like he couldn't even have time to mourn. And when he finally cried when the last person who meant the world to him died,, I cried too

Shorter what a bro! And he protected Eiji when they jumped into the river so cute!!!! Lolol. Glad that Max has joined them. That hideout was so cool too.

That art at the sunset rooftop scene while the ED was playing was so lovely, and then sad......Ash’s tears.....I can almost feel how alone he feels :(

Ash is finally out of jail thank god, I know that was hell for him. Eiji is leveling up owning his won gun and shit. I am starting to like Shorter a lot there is something about that I'm drawn to, he always has his friends back which I like. It looks like we are going to get a glimpse of Ash's and Griff's childhood and possibly how they were treated by their parents.

Every shot that had all three of the dynamic trio (Ash, Eiji, Shorter) made me so happy and giddy. I love their relationship so much.

This is probably where it's first actually highlighted/brought up, but yes, Shorter is the gang boss of Chinatown! He gets along with Ash because they met in juvenile prison before (shown in a side story called Angel Eyes, I recommend checking it out after the series ends).

I love this episode so much, it had so many great and defining character moments, while also being really exciting. The last scene with Ash crying along with the ED playing was so heartbreaking, and finally Ash could properly mourn over his brother. The series really can't give him a break huh?

Knowing what will happen in a few weeks, I can't stop laughing at Ash's line to Eiji "But you better look after your own ass. And don't get in my way." : ^ )))) it's sometimes hard to believe this is the same Ash tbh

Poor Ash hasn't had time to mourn for his brother properly. Granted, he could've just stayed undercover for a little bit while he organized this more so that's kind of him for wanting to take revenge so quickly.
