World Masterpiece Theater

Welcome to MAL's one and only club dedicated to The World Masterpiece Theater, a collection of childrens' anime series that ran each year from 1975 to 1997, then 2007 to 2009. Such series were usually based on classic European of American novels and stories, and are known not only for charming children the world over, but also being some of the best series out there to discerning adult fans.

Whether you've seen them all or just got sucked into a few episodes of Les Mis, please join us in discussing these fantastic anime!

"How are you finding it on the rewatch?"
I wouldn't call it a rewatch, I was too young when it aired on TV to remember any of it.
Also, if these were different times I would have already finished watching, but I'm watching too many things at once and slowly. One day I'll make some push to watch faster.
For now I have nothing to complain.
And episode 7 was surprisingly "homoerotic".

I like Peter Pan a lot, and can think of many WMT series I find to be worse. But it is unusual in being more of an adventure series. In fact, I think it has more in common with some of Miyazaki's early work like Conan, Puss in Boots, Holmes and Laputa than other WMT series. Especially the exciting chase sequences in the climactic mid-point and final episodes feel very reminiscent of those, and are my favourite parts of it. I will admit the rest of the show can drag at times.
I also thought the character designs were weird to begin with, but after I got used to them I think they are appealing and distinct.
How are you finding it on the rewatch?

The first ever WMT I watched was Peter Pan no Bouken, it was one of the first animations I ever watched, I probably had 5 years.
Because I had "already watched" and the character design seems so ugly I never had interest in watching it, but recently I remembered that it exists. Also, that one of the characters was probably my first ever "anime crush" (even if I was so young...). And lastly, recently it was fully subbed, so I started watching.

This one don't seem to have many fans.
Maybe it's "bad" for WMT standards?
