Boogiepop wa Warawanai (2019)

Both written in the late 90's, dark and gritty themes, violence, supernatural, mystery, thriller, I got the same feeling watching both of these shows. Both deal with relatively mature topics. Both stories are somewhat difficult to follow if you are not paying attention meaning you will get more out of subsequent rewatches.  

Supernatural happenings in the big city. Both have unconventional ways of telling a story and have large casts of characters each with their own motivations and goals. Boogiepop is darker and gritter than Durarara, but both deal with supernatural beings that are found in myth and lore throughout the world all while living in a hectic concrete jungle. Each both have compelling stories with meaningful drama and terrific characters. 

Honestly it's the most similar show out of every other recommended here. Both are severely underrated by people who watch 1-3 ep and don't understand the plot and both have extremely complex story telling which might be hard for some to understand but if you get into them both, you'll find them to be quite brilliant. Enjoy. 

Both series have a nonlinear, non-obvious, avant garde style of storytelling. The effect of this is that one has to be in complete attention while watching the show or it will be confusing and difficult to follow.  

Both Series start of small but will lead to something grand in the end. Both Series are set in a Urban Setting. Both Series make you think a lot while watching them. 

Same director, same guy on music. If you liked the vibe that sonny boy had, then you'll like boogiepop as well. 

Both are very mysterious in plot and characters. Both have violent and bloody parts. 

Both anime follow the stories of a wide cast of characters, around a number of strange or terrible occurrences around them. The occurrences are set up as their own unique stories, which can be independent from one another if not for the shared characters. 

Nonlinear storytelling with supernatural elements and a mystery theme 

Anime with noir-like style about a city where there are mysteries caused my people with supernatural abilities. 

Both have an "organization" of edgy teenagers wishing to "remake" the world as villains. But in execution, Boogiepop is less edgy overall and rather a hope story, with Narutaru going to the downer side. 

Both series are dark mysteries with horror elements that tackle mature themes and employ non-chronological storytelling. 

Boogiepop And Other and Mawaru Penguin Drum have this dark, shrouded atmosphere that makes their worlds seem hopeless, unpredictable, and better off just letting the ''fate'' of their worlds take over. These shows have the power of taking people who seem so ordanairy and making their lifes a living hell, constantly fighting for what they want, even when they know that it may not come to light. The fate of the characters seems just about impossible to change... The fantasy aspect, which usually makes a lot of shows more bright and loving, can make the worst darkness come out. The characters are out there for their own needs and won't stop to get what they want. While their causes seem reasonable, the boundaries that are pushed can be overwhelming, trying to change the outcomes of the people they care about. Both have multiple story arcs that are extremely dark and emotionally disturbing. The emotional level could be really complex to understand since there are a lot of suicidal thoughts or low-self-esteem characters. Aoi Bungaku adapts classic Japanese literature coming from various authors, Boogiepop comes from a light novel but it takes place in a more modern society while the former is a bit into the historical side since the novels are from the last century. 

The ebb and flow of both of these series is identical. You watch each episode as a stand alone 25 minutes, all of them seemingly unconnected. The final episode ties all of the stories together, with a nice little twist. Seraphim is much slower paced, and is not quite as deep and involved as Boogiepop. Boogiepop is a classic horror series, and can take a lot of focus to get through. 

A dark atmosphere, characters full of secrets, a reality constructed for the wishes of someone, interesting theories about time and people who want to escape of their own life. Probably, if you like rare thematics, these two are good options. 

Night Head Genesis and Boogiepop And Other are both supernatural thrillers that explore the potentially disastrous consequences of spiritual powers unleashed. These series are extremely dark and delve into the darkest aspects of the human psyche. With this said, Boogiepop Phantom is considerably more complex, with a narrative that breaks all conventions, being highly non-linear while Night Head Genesis is easier to follow and much more conventional in terms of story telling. 

Boogiepop And Other and Demon Prince Enma are horrors with very dark (obviously), twisted, complex and surprising story. There are some similarities, but its difficult to explain. The title character Enma reminded me a little bit of Boogiepop (or its Phantom or both) and the plot in both shows heavily revolved around the dark side of human soul 

Skull Man and Boogiepop And Other are about mysterious events occurring throughout a city. There are a wide variety of characters, with many of them having extraordinary talents. Both series have the same tone and can be very confusing at times, more so in Boogiepop.  

Both shows deal with the supernatural, while xxxholic Kei is lighter in its delivery, they still manage to get the same point across. 

Both are classics with a focus on as mysterious and deep themes 

Unnerving horror/psychological elements work quite effectively in both shows. Similar themes of making compromises and overcoming disasters. Still, prepare to keep more notes when watching Boogiepop. 

You'll find something similarities about these anime at first, they're both leading a mysterious girl, thrilling plot, same concept of attire. Unlike shigofumi, boogiepop has more brutal scenes hat gives more thrilling of the story at same time it is more confusing. But I swear into you guyzz that it is worth watching :). 

Higurashi Gou and Boogiepop Phantom are mystery anime taking place in a single story with a connected set of characters. They're both also horror and have some of the same gross out creepy aspects while maintaining a good atmosphere at times. If you like one you'll like the other.  

Oshi no Ko is another twisted anime to watch if you liked the plot twists and confusion of Boogiepop And Other. Not certain Oshi no Ko Have same dementia 

I don't know, just watch em' there good. Also they both have the same kind of suspense. You know like woa someone just died, yea that kind of suspense.  

This anime brings an unusual mystery genre like Anime Boogiepop wa Warawanai 

Both Boogie and other and Chaos;Child have a deep story which will keep you confused for a while slowly giving away details to make sense of the whole situation. In both anime, you usually see the story from the main characters perspective where he is the least informed of the characters about what is happening and later on becomes the hero. Also, they both share the theme where the characters go a 'bit' insane because of psycological reasons. 

Both Boogiepop and king's game utilise mystery to slowly uncover a strange plot filled with mind boggle-ry based around an artificial existence 

Boogiepop And Other is a horror anime series with a story that has a similar set up to Higurashi. All of the characters profiled in each episode are in some way linked to each other; a mysterious beam of light, a series of murders that took place 5 years before the anime, and Boogiepop, the "Angel of Death". Boogiepop Phantom, like Higurashi, needs to be paid attention to closely so you can be able to fully grasp what is going  

I think, this is also similar. Both bring the mystery genre :> 

Come and stay for the spooky atmosphere. Boogiepop and Other has actual supernatural stuff going on and there's a mystery. By contrast, in Flowers of Evil you know exactly what is going on but there's hella anxiety. 

boogiepop and other and Elfen lied share a lot of commonalities genre-wise. Both are mystery thrillers with violence and sexual content. Both have a similar eerie tone where the leave viewers and the protagonists mostly confused to slowly reveal dark truths about their society. Both shows are about how individuals obtain power/control by withholding information and altering people's memories. Both are highly thought-provoking and at times hard to grasp. In my opinion, one (elfen lied) executes its overall story better. One (boogiepop and other).  

Both have a similar vibe and atmosphere. Great soundtracks, different perspectives from different characters, and the past is unravelled for each show as they go on. 

Both heavily explore the human concept "right and wrong," and just overall invest a lot into that specific thing. Both shows have well developed complicated characters, one being literally the second Light Yagami. Both shows have characters that strive to cleanse the world because it's "corrupt," or for some other obscure reasoning.

Both main character have some kind of Dissociative identity disorder issue. To some extend both are psychological based. Their other personality is of more interesting and completely opposite of what they are. 

Under the hand of a mysterious character who wears terrorizing a city of Japan. Whose mission is to "save" the protagonists of their suffering, where everyone has some kind of connection. Both series play with the minds and feelings of the characters, which brings to light their true personalities and therefore freeing them from their pain. 

The interconnected stories of freaks and problem children, some with supernatural circumstances, that culminate into an overall plot of the city. 

Both anime gives off mysterious, dark vibes. It's about how aliens somehow came to earth and they are man-eaters. The protagonist has power to stop these monsters from destroying the world. 

Both Boogiepop and Occultic Nine have a non-linear storytelling style. A single set of events is told from multiple vantage points, with different characters supplying key information that advances the plot. Both series have a lot of death and violence, and both can be tagged as mysteries.  

Both shows have psychological themes and deal with serial killers. 

Their similar in how it presents their stories and have a supernatural element to it to make it itriguing.  

Although both shows are different in genres, they have a conception of urban fantasy genre, where bad supernatural things are fighting with good peoples who also has a supernatural powers that they use only for good. 

Both Boogiepop And Other and Paranoia Agent deal with mysterious and terrifying incidents terrorising a city, with only a shadowy rumour to blame. Both shows are a little slow-paced, but with many twists and red herrings along the way to keep you guessing until the final mindblow. 

Both gerneraly have the same vibe of human flaw. Each have humans with personality, or social problems that draws a dark influence to them, eventually giving them the power to destroy themselves with there own devices. 

A dark mood with a hint of madness is what fills these two series. They give you a deeper view into the psychics of humans, both realistic and not, and is bound to entertain the one who like dementia. A given choice. 

Requem from the Darkness as well as Boogiepop And other are just that. They're both episodic, dark themed horror anime with interesting plots, not so much of sheer violence and mindless corpse-munching, but more of mythical and thrilling lessons of psychology. Friends of the macabre will without a doubt find both series interesting 

Both are very dark anime with a plot you have to keep paying attention too. Since if you don't you won't be able to keep track of the anime anymore. Made to make you think, directed at the adult audience. Surely Boogiepop and Texhnolyze will appeal the same people. 

They both center around trying to solve something, but in this show they solve paranormal things. 

- Both have philosophical themes and deep/mysterious stories - Time jumps in the plot - Similar atmosphere - Large ensemble cast - Both can be dark  

The protagonists are supernatural humanoid beings which appear whenever a menace to the world (in the case of Boogiepop) or a Mononoke appears. Both protagonists are stoic and might use unconventional methods defeat whoever is causing havoc. Both anime are also highly surreal and depict horror in an unconventional way. Both are divided in several short arcs, and lastly, both give a hopeful message in the conclusion of each arc. 

Both are interpitations of an apocalyptic future that start in a seemingly utopian society. Both focus mainly on 2 characters, with a female lead and a male secondary lead. Both shows tackle their societies problems while also questioning the benefits of it, making you think. They both also leave you questioning what you watched in a satisfying way, wanting more answers. both shows also feature a strong scifi world with a magical element, beyond human, and end with a somber yet hopeful note, would strongly recomend one if you liked the other.
