Boogiepop wa Warawanai (2019)
|
Supernatural happenings in the big city. Both have unconventional ways of telling a story and have large casts of characters each with their own motivations and goals. Boogiepop is darker and gritter than Durarara, but both deal with supernatural beings that are found in myth and lore throughout the world all while living in a hectic concrete jungle. Each both have compelling stories with meaningful drama and terrific characters.
They both have a dark feel and a storyline that seems scattered, but all comes together.
Nonchronological story about intertwined lifes and events of citizens of certain town, some of those citizens equipped with various supernatural abilities and with urban legends involved. Larger bits of the main story are gradually revealed.
Both shows use similar themes, the use mythology, and even use similar storytelling methods.
In both Boogiepop and in Durarara, they don't have one main character be focused on, but rather focus on multiple people at the same time, and tie how they're apart of what's going on.
Both shows truly get you to feel like you're apart of their world and are engrossed in what goes on in them.
So if you enjoyed watching Boogiepop and seeing all the bizarre supernatural phenomena go on, then I urge you to go watch Durarara!
Similar supernatural urban setting with students at it's center.
Similarly scattered narrative which doesn't start making sense for quite a while.
Similarly slow and to be fair, boring at times, with Boogiepop's pacing being just a little bit better.
Giving similarly little spotlight to interesting characters, instead chosing to focus on the more generic of the bunch.
