The setting and atmosphere, as well as character design give off very similiar feeling. Both concentrating on the comng-of-age journey of young boys in positions of power/military, as well as medieval wars in the south and east.

Protagonist is a genius leader who finds ingenius ways to win hopeless battles.

Also "war game" strategy feel with battles and intrigue. Major differences include: Kingdom is based in China before unification while Altair is based in a fantastical setting which has some resemblance to Mediterranean region. The protagonists are quite different, Kingdom has more focus on individual fights and in general has more of a shounen feel to it.

Shoukoku no Altair and Grancrest Senki are anime with idealistic protagonists and supportive comrades fighting to establish peace. Grancrest Senki is a fantasy anime that holds a lot of promise. Its biggest asset is the pitched battles that make up the anime, but its biggest flaw is the plot development for those battles. Shoukoku no Altair uses its historical setting to create a stronger plot development. Both anime try to satisfy your craving for watching fighting armies and court dramas. Watch Shoukoku no Altair for less ridiculousness. Watch Grancrest Senki for heroic battles.

Similar focus on politics, intrigues, war between 2 countries of different ideologies and battles in different settings. Protagonist in Altair is similar to Yang Wen Li in that he hates war but is dragged into it and is a genius commander.

Historical adventures with a fantasy twist where the main characters explore the world to gain the experience needed to lead their people.

Both are based on similar themes. Even the MCs are similar in their thinking.

I cant say its like chasing a mastermind but when its comes to strategies these two shows are awesome.Death note = strategies of catching mastermind Altair = Strategies of political matters and stop violance/war

-There is a lot of politics involved in both animes -Their first openings were performed by SID -They both feature a young protagonist -They both have middle eastern themes, though Magi isn't limited to that (Rome empire, China, etc)

Imagine Code Geass without giant robots. Throw in more politics and more Lelouch-like characters, you got Shoukou no Altair.

There are few anime that represents Muslims culture, Altair:The record of Battles is an anime about turkish history, war and muslims emperor. The Journey movie also similer as it based on islamic history. So If anyone enjoy The journey movie, they should also watch Altair anime series too

Both are political military anime, but Tensai Ouji is a story of a ruler of a medium sized but kinda somewhat poor principality/country, bigger on politics and the MC is the ruler making decisions, while Altair is about the MC and a lot of his point of view, bigger on strategy and tactics and the MC is a talented general with some political status (a turkish pasha). His input in global politics is smaller, but still there. In general Tensai Ouji is a political action show with comedy and character design-based fanservice (outfits etc, but very little actual ecchi outside of that). We get a ton  read more

Both sumptuous historical AU fantasies packed with intrigue and swashbuckling (and a blond pretty protagonist I guess)

Mahmut and Thorfinn are shaped by the loss of a parent in battle/warfare, but their responses to this tragedy are different. Mahmut pursued strength and power to ensured peace for his country. He views war as something distasteful and the cause of his tragedy. Thorfinn pursued strength for vengeance against his father's killer. Altair and Vinland Saga are loved for their historical settings, political subplots, and engaging plots.

Crest of the Stars and Shoukoku no Altair exemplify the expression that war is the continuation of politics by other means. In Crest of the Stars, we watch a conflict between major galactic powers from the perspective of its two main characters who hold political and military power in the aggressive side of the conflict. In Shoukoku no Altair, we watch a conflict between two country with an asymmetrical relationship from the perspective of its main character who holds political and military power in the smaller country. Both anime show war as a means used for accomplishing goals when diplomacy is ineffective. Shoukoku no Altair  read more

The story takes place in a similiar oriental setting. They both are about politics (Magi later on, Altair from the start). The only big difference is that Altair makes a "realistic" fantasy approach, while Magi is filled with supernatural elements (magic, spirits and so on).

-Both MCs are commanders of a big army -Both MCs are doing everything to protect their country/hometown -Both male MCs have unique features that are making them easy to remember -There is a foreshadowing that both MCs are a ray of hope/heroes for their country -Both stories resolve around battles between armies/countries -Both MCs have a certain noble rank in their countries -There is a lot of politics involved in both animes -Both animes focus on war and strategies.

Both synopsis are about a coming of age young men who has to grow more to be able to get the position he is aiming for. Same atmosphere, world travelling, military environment. Same world building inspired by arabian /middle eastern/ turkish environments. Shoukoku no Altair might be a little bit less dramatic.

Both are adventure anime where the MC is a great strategy maker & negotiator. Both anime also involve the politics as one of the main focuses in the story.
