Lol, we literally have the exact same ratings for multiple shows, and others that are very similar. I don't see how that's zero affinity but cool cool.

Ok, I get it. It's kind of how I used to do it when I started out (well not really but half in half). I would get loads of recommendations of shows from friends, more than I could handle. So I would check those out but sometimes just look things up or randomly start watching shows.

I'm so glad I did, some of those are still my favourites 6/7 years after seriously getting into anime.

Nowadays I mostly look up shows before watching so maybe I should learn from you.

If there's one thing I learned from all this time, it's that looks can be deceiving. You can look up synopsis and find shows you are more likely to like (if you know what you like) but there are great shows in every genre. There are shows I heard lots of great things about for years but i put off watching them cause they looked lame, childish, shalloow. Some of them turned out to not be good as expected but others turned out to be surprisingly good and ended up as some of my favourites. Judging a book by it's cover doesn't get you far, and that's the sad reality of anime as well.

There are loads of gems out there but you won't know unless you check the shows out, there's no way to be certain from the start. Although the ratings might help slightly, you might shows you love among the lower rated shows as well since we all have different tastes. The tragic part is you have to wade through a ton of shit to find the good parts.
