Also "war game" strategy feel with battles and intrigue. Major differences include: Kingdom is based in China before unification while Altair is based in a fantastical setting which has some resemblance to Mediterranean region. The protagonists are quite different, Kingdom has more focus on individual fights and in general has more of a shounen feel to it.
both historical animes and you'll definitely enjoy the plot and strategy in both these shows
Both stories are set in a turmoil/warring period and both plots (unlike typical shounen series) do not progress by simply fighting but rather by focusing on bigger picture -- in Kingdom there are the strategies and ideals while for Shoukoku no Altair its the political and economic relations.
P.S. For Kingdom, just endure the awful CGI and you'll find yourself a good story.
